Phenomenal ball striking by the bald Russian. Unplayable when he's in this kind of mood. Davydenko at his absolute best.

As far as tennis goes this is the best moment of the year for me along with Fed winning FO.

Yes it was a long time coming. I'd hate for Kolya to waste his first victory against Federer. He delivered when it really mattered. On the biggest of stages. Davydenko at his absolute best. His wife will be pleased.

Andy Murray says thank you to Davydenko for saving his #4 ranking and seed for the Australian Open.

Since Murray is playing Hopman Cup before the AO he can't defend his 250 points thus being 5 points behind JMDP for the AO seeding.

JMDP's Auckland points fall off after the seeds are made.

Murray playing Hopman Cup instead of defending his ranking? No wonder nobody can take him seriously as a grand slam contender.

Kolja has ridiculously low amount of points to defend for a good part of the year,he's bound to earn some.

I'm really happy for Davydenko! After all these years being just behind the top 4 this is a well deserved win. :D
What a comback from him after injury took him out most of the first half of this season.
He has practically nothing to defend till clay season. Top 5 is possible early next year. Keep it up!

I think he has only something like 60-70 points to defend for the first part of the season,he can pick a lot of points if he has a good start of the 2010.

Delpo has the best noise over the shots.

He roars like a lion. Looks like a lion too.

Guy is cool, I hope he takes over murray's spot in 10

Congrats to davy for his "Grand Slam" victory(beat AO champ,RG-WB champ and USO champ),it is well deserved,he played some brilliant tennis this week.

Seeing the varying levels of WTF matches(last year it was mostly crap, this year it was ok),got me thinking: why not push AO a bit further on in the calendar and have WTF as the first event in the new season, when everybody is rested, healed up and such? And before you say that I am only saying this to benefit Rafa, look at how tired some of the players who arrive here are. Last year,Roger had problems with his back if I remember correctly,Nadal missed out, this year a lot of these guys looked tired to me,Novak really seemed spent,DelPo could barely move his feet in this final and so on.Also murray just came off a injury brek, roddick missed out and so on.

Perhaps it is just me but I would like the tournament which has the best 8 players in the world to take place in the best starting conditions possible. Look at the consistently good level of tennis shown in the first slam of year,AO,where the player are really hungry so to speak and mostly healthy as well. By the time WTF comes around, most of them are thinking about the vacation ahead and tending to their wounds instead of playing their best tennis. This WTF however, was somewhat of a exception,it had some great matches and dare I say,the stars of this WTF were for me,Davydenko and Soderling, and these guys aren't even in the top 5 and only have one slam final between them.

Anyway I love the way this sounds: "Ladies and gentleman, the champion of the champions in 2009 is......Nikolay Davydenkoooo...".
I hope Davydenko doesn't finish his career slamless.

The least expected to win and he did. What a great guy Davdenko is. Some of the most, if not the most impressive tennis of this tournament. He's not an amazon and he's not in the top three but his tennis was better than the lot put together.

Nah, I think year end make more sense...

The champs who have been through the battlefield and scared...who is the last man standing?

This is the best thing that could have happened. Davydenko finally won something big now lets just hope he has a grand slam in him before his careers over.

A victory for balding men of average height around the age of the 30. Winner.

Totally agree (& can relate). Excellent job by Davy, running through top men (I believe Del Potro is next dominant #1 in near future, if he can improve stamina & agility). Does anyone see Soderling breaking through to approach top 5?

After this event it feels almost like the top 7, 8, even 9 players are almost equal right now. Next year will be exciting, especialy going in.

Looking for Monfils to join that group. State of Tennis is fine; very competitive & playing at high levels. I don't care if no Americans are prominent, Game is better now.

The top 10 is going to get crowded soon. I think Cilic and Monfils both have a good chance to be there. Of the current top 10 I see Roddick, Verdasco, and Tsonga the most vurnerable to fall out and be replaced.

I'd much rather see Cilic than Monfils there ,to be honest
I dont think Roddick will fall out though..his biggest advantage is that he is overall consistent.
Verdasco and Tsonga-maybe.

Roddick is done on all surfaces except grass. Just look at his results since Wimbledon. He isnt consistent anymore.

monfils?
cilic has more chances to be top 10 next year....

Yes definantly, I thought about Cilic, but I feel Monfils has the physical, if he can improve the technical. Cilic is younger, so yeah, wouldn't be surprised to see Cilic up there.

verdasco needs to make it to the semis again at AO if he wanna keep being top 10...
he should be taking pictures of the current raking :)
