6.1 Plowthrough in a lighter stick?

I miss the pancaking power of my K6.1 but playing again with it after using a PS97 broke my wrist and I felt myself definitely lacking in RHS at times. What would be some good sticks/specs to look for in lighter raquets that can really put pace on the ball without destroying the arm?

Hmmmm. A lot of people around here believe a higher static weight can protect your arm. What strings are you using? I am a little confused about what arm issues you're having and the cause of them. Some frames that provides a similar response at contact include:

Wilson 6.1 95S
Wilson 6.1 Classic
HEAD Graphene XT Prestige Pro
HEAD MicroGel Prestige Pro
HEAD Youtek IG Radical Pro

I think I developed tendinitis in my wrist because I used a smaller grip size with my K6.1.I just felt a pinch on the top outer corner of my wrist. It's getting better now and I had played with that racquet for many years before and never had any problems.

Okay, what string setups do you use? Tension, as well?

Usually a full bed of Isospeed baseline spin 17L . Last bed was hybrid with some forten black string that I'm not completely sure what it was. At 56 pounds.

I would consider lowering your tension range to 47-50lbs. Especially if you're developing a chronic wrist issue. For lighter 6.1 frames, try the 6.1 95S or new 2016 6.1 team. Both are under $100 and great sticks. Good luck

Prestige pro or a yonex duel g 330. I prefer a leaded up 310! I have mine in pretty close specs to a 6.1. Also DR98 or the Pro Kennex Redondo C98.

I had been eyeing the Prestige Pro but read some scary stories about Head's QC and their grips gave me some sore palms when I used a LM Radical a while back, which made me hesitant.

Leaded up 310 is a great choice. Mine probably has a bit too much lead though.

If you're looking for plow through, just try some weight at the tip. Bring it up to the 6.1 level. Try to match the specs roughly of the 6.1 (balance, static, swing weight, and also twist weight). That could get you pretty close. Especially with a stick like the 6.1 95s that gino recommended (haven't looked at the new 6.1 team yet), or a 310. I would stay away from the yonex 330 97's simply because if the stock specs go over, you could land high of your target specs quite easily.

Exactly, you're probably better off going up in weight as high as you can. That way, you can afford to swing less hard and generate pop/power in an easier fashion. I agree with RD about maybe just leading up a 310 or something similar to make it move through the ball like a 6.1... Keep in mind, 6.1 plowthrough/stability/feel is very very tough to replicate

If it just the wrist size, rest, heal, increase grip, play done..
If it is form, rest, heal, increase grip size, take lessons ..and we are never done...

There is no substitute for mass, but if you're going to go lighter then you might even try a Pure Drive and add some blue tack in the handle and a little lead a 3&9 to dampen it out a little.

Of course you could do that with the PS97 or PS97S. You might even consider a Burn 95 (Nishikori model).

Pro Staff 97S would have been my immediate pick. It has a manageable static weight but good plowthrough thanks to its swingweight. Pretty comfy frame too

What would you rather take to the courts?
Oh and yes, a smaller truck is just as safe as a big truck...

Seems it's gotta be somewhat heavy to absorb the impact from an incoming ball, and it's gotta be somewhat easy to swing, so lighter SW but higher static weight. Smaller heads swing easier, as do thinner more aerodynamic beams and heads.

Some very light lead just to balance it out...

Jesus. Reminds me of what I did to my APDC when I was 16. 14oz. Except it was all in 1/4" lead tape, and a ton on the hoop.

California would be screaming about putting a carcinogen warning on your racquet.

Here is the secret to 6.1 95's (my faves being classic and Hyper)..forget the string hype!!

String them with basic Syn Gut at the higher end..no arm pain, no wrist pain....tons of pace and power, spin is easy (16x18) and serve bombs!!

Whereas I wouldn't dream of a basic Syn Gut set up on my other faves (see sig), time and time again I string the 6.1's with Poly or Hybrids..only to go back to basic 16G Black (just mental preference color) Syn Gut and wonder why I ever messed with the program!!!

Sure you'll break strings faster..but who cares..it's syn gut and I string myself. Dare you to try it..it's the anti hype!

DUH !!
Try swinging a 125 sq in racket fast on your flat first serve. Now try it on a PS85.
Thick beams also contribute to air drag, nothing new there.
Thin beams slice thru the air.
Don't you ever try different rackets? I have rackets from 95 to 115, and it's noticeable the drag difference compared to head size.

Maybe you're talking about the twist weight differences between the frames. But the amount of drag created on a racquet, at even max forehand speed of like even 80mph is very little.

While everyone has their own personal "normal" with certain racquets, I agree with this in terms of the 6.1 95. I played the 6.1 Classics for quite a while and they were at their best for me when strung with a snug bed of 17 ga. syn. gut.

I also string my own gear...

Exactly...the RA # always baffled me, because it felt great and never jarring or harsh, but I think the Syn Gut had a lot to do with that..and it was the recommended string..and tensions in the 60's were just fine.

This...I use Prince Syn Gut Original in my PSC 4.2, feels great. Have tried gut/poly in it also but becomes too powerful and harder to control. These sticks just feel really nice with syn gut. Only problem is if you are a big string breaker.
