6/72 GS finals

If I'm not mistaken, out of the last 72 grand slams (since W 2003), there were only 6 in which none of the big3 were playing:

2003 USO: Roddick-Ferrero
2004 RG: Gaudio-Coria
2005 AO: Safin-Hewitt (Fed made the semis and lost in an epic match vs mythical creature peak Safin)
2014 USO: Cilic-Nishikori (Both Fed and Djokovic made the semis)
2016 W: Murray-Raonic (Fed made the semis)
2020 USO: Thiem-Zverev (Djoko got disqualified)

Utter dominance. When will be the next time?

At least 1 of them has been in the semi finals of every GS from 2004 Wimbledon onwards (excluding 2020 US Open where Nadal and Federer didn't play and Djokovic got disqualified early).

Yeah, that is insane. I wonder how long it might be until they all lose earlier than the semis at a given slam.

I've asked similar questions before. I'd say at least another 5 years.
It doesn't sound like out of touch with reality, which is sad. I doubt that they'll play that long. I think Fed will retire next year, 2023 the latest. And given his recent decline, Nadal might follow not much later. Once they're out ad Djokovic has the slam record (seems likely), having a double career grand slam and double golden masters, he might call it quits as well.

It might be that they retire before it even happens...

2020 is a joke to count as it was by default during Covid.

So essentially twice in over 15 years.

2022 might see consecutive Slam finals without any B3.

Actually that's not saying much. Now it's unlikely Federer will again make Wimbledon SF, much less any other Slam. Nadal is still co-favorite at RG, but elsewhere it's no longer a surprise if he's upset before SF.
