That includes 1 Slam and 3 masters finals. Last time we saw something like this from young upcoming player was 2011 from Novak DjoKovic. And we know what happened after that. We might be witnessing historical time when next ATG has arrived.

People are constantly calling Roddick a mug even after what he did in 2003.

Note, I'm not calling Medvedev a mug. I'm actually applauding his effort. He is the best of the young guns.
He is the best 'young' and Nadal still should've beat him in straights.

Medvedev is impressive, but the way Tsitsipas just doesn't have a clue against him says a lot bout Tsitsipas too.

Zverev vs Tsitsipas would be interesting cause while they play so similar, Medvedev has all the clutch and the brains

For me the real interesting thing will be how he comes back after the break and performs in Australia with the weight of expectation greatly increased and the format he supposedly doesn't like! Right now he seems comfortably the form player in the world give or take Nadal who is only there half the time anyway. It's so nice finally seeing consistency out of someone that age.

Nalbandian should've beaten Roddick in straights in USO 03 SF, who's the mug here? :devi devil:

Yet, Zverev leads 4-0

I think it's too late. He could take #1 spot for sure but can't prevent Djokodal fluking Slams here and there. Nadal just needs one more and he seems to have solution to Medvedev' game.
Interesting comment. I may, however, disagree with you.

Here's why:

1. Federer can still win Wimbledon, so not a drama for Fed fans the fact that Nadal is 1 Slam behind.

2. Nadal does not have "the solution" to Medvedev. He suffered a lot to defeat Medevedev in the USO final.

3 I believe Medvedev has the potential to challenge and defeat any member of the Big 3 in Slams. He is improving so fast since his explosion in the American hard court summer.

You probably mean Medvedev, right? ;)

You are underrating Medvedev a lot. No member of the Big 3 will ever defeat Medvedev in 3 sets in a Slam match, unless it is Nadal at RG.

Nadal only failed a volley in the 3th set of the USO final and from that moment Medvedev turned into a robot, hitting clean winners and being a human wall.

There are always some trolls in every fanbase. Obviously it is a joke to call Roddick a mug. It doesn't mean we should go to the second extreme point and say he was a very strong opponent in all tournaments though. In some tournaments he was, in some not. Same thing about Medvedev. In USO he was a very tough opponent for Nadal, on the other hand in Toronto final he was terrible.

But the problem is that for some users here a player who lost any match to Nadal outside of clay is already a mug by default.

Medvedev is a problem solver. When Djoker was crushing his 2nd serves, he decided to go all out on his 2nd serves. This allowed Medvedev to come from behind and win that match. He also got much more aggressive against Nadal when he fell behind. We have to credit Daniil a lot for pushing Nadal to a 5th set.

Medvedev is making things quite interesting right now. I don’t think that anyone wants this guy on their side of a hard court slam draw. He’s quite dangerous.

I agree with a lot of what’s been said already(so no need to repeat it). This guy is quick, smart and if he stays healthy he will certainly win more titles.

He lost 1st round of RG and lost to frigging Goffin at Wimbly.
His best surface is hard court so far. He defeated Djokovic twice this year (even on clay) and tomorrow is about to win his 2nd Master 1000. Not a joke of player.

Didn't Roddick have like a 1.0 DR at least in every set.
'sright, not mutually exclusive though, like both should have done better at different junctions. Kinda like Fred had superior DR in each of the first three sets of Wimbledon 08 final so, in a way, he should have won in straights, but in another way, Nadal should have when he had triple BP, and then he should have won in four sets up *5-2 in the tiebreak.

Not alone. I think the others are going to step up their games over the next 12 months, though.

And haters are still going to call him a mug just to make Nadal's USO draw look worse.
He is no mug, but we all know that until he wins a slam it simply won't matter what he does in other tourneys. Zverev and Thiem have done what he is doing. Maybe not in the same quick time frame, but very similar.

Yeah, this is fair. I actually agree with this.

Well, in USO he was mentally ready to win the title. He didn't because Nadal outplayed him in the fifth set, not because he choked. This is something we are yet to see from the likes of Zverev or Tsitsipas. But I agree that winning slams is what matters, and we have to see how he will play them in 2020.

Zverev has 0 Slam finals. Not comparable to Medvedev at all.

Thiem was destroyed in the third and fourth set of the RG 2019 final 6-1, 6-1. Medvedev had chances to defeat Nadal. Medvedev is much better than Thiem.

While I agree, Thiem and zverev have very comparable accomplishments. Thiem even better, and Zverev is right there. Now level of play is quite different as I agree Med Bear is on another level.

He will be profiteering on the Big Three demise.

I think he will win Slams beating big 3 in 2020-21. He was very close in his first attempt itself. Cool Head.
we should remember that Nadal was not even at his 50% best during this final, so if he was playing good then it would have been over in 3 probably 4 sets. That being said he definitely is the best of the new comers.

As long as he stays injury free, he has a pretty good shot at getting to No 1 next year at some point before Wimbledon

I doubted his offensive abilities till I watched him pushing Nadal to five sets. His offense is already better than Murray's for instance. He will get better fir sure.
No, just no. When Murray actually wanted to play offense he could do it better than Medvedev. Do you see how awkward Medvedev looks when he tries to actually go for his forehand? He practically has to throw his whole body into the shot, and this can't be consistent. Do you see how far back he plays on return? It's almost impossible to play offensive returns from that position. At best he's starting points in neutral. Murray also has much better court sense and recognizes when to play on or inside the baseline to attack. I personally have not really seen this from Medvedev yet.

Rewatch this and realize how ignorant your post is.

Medvedev most important has the mentality of a champion which I mean is his composure and level stays quite good throughout the match also his bounce backability is amazing like for instance he fights back from 0-40 or break back just after giving away break are some traits which makes me think if he stays fit then he has great things coming up for him.
