6 point mount blocks grommets

I've only done one job on the newly acquired stringer.

While doing the crosses, I noticed the mount was in between the next grommet.
So, I had to back off that mount and make room to thread the string, then re-tighten it

Obviously, the string alternates grommets, but I can't tell which when it's unstrung.
Do you mark the racket while it's got strings on it?

I guess it depends on machine. My 6 point does not block any grommets, no matter where you mount it.
Possibly you can take pictures to show your issue.
I would not mark any players racquet, as they would not be very happy.

What type side supports do you have? Are the bottom of the supports flat or angled?

Check the racket after it is mounted. If a grommet is blocked you can move the 6/12 support in/out then adjust the standard.

Yes, I took a closer look at mine, and the support is angled away, for clearance.
So, I think I can sneak the string past the mount, even when it is blocking.

If your supports are angled as you said, and can get string through, then why did you have to back off the support as you said you did? Not good to move supports once stringing process has started.Did you not look to see if you can pass the string through before you backed off the support?

If your supports are angled as in the picture you have "C" or "V" type supports. If your supports are flat on the bottom you have the old "L" type supports. With the "L" type supports you must revert to paying attention to the grommets being blocked before you start stringing and adjust or you will run into problems.

Just an FYI - once the racket is mounted, I would not loosen a mount. The reason the mounts are there is to protect the frame. If you loosen one the racket may try to fill the space and that results in breakage.

Before I got my Prog. II ELS a little over six years ago, I got to do some stringing on an older Gamma 5800, which was more of a premium floor-stand machine. The newer version of that machine is the six-point 6900. Both the 6900 and older 5800 have the L type supports.

I can assure you that the supports on the Prog II ELS - our pals are calling them V or C type supports, but I thought that they were called K type - are much less trouble in terms of blocking grommets compared with those L type supports. Even if the support on our machines is directly over the grommet hole, it's usually easy enough to thread the string through it from one side or the other.

The good news with these V/C/K type supports is that they support the sides of the hoop where there typically isn't a grommet blocked by another string. The shape of these supports leaves much more access to the grommet hole itself because of their angled surfaces. Once you get used to negotiating them, you won't have any trouble.

@mad dog1, as do I. From reading the expertise on here, I've been thinking about converting my Mighty Sensor to a drop weight. Have you ever looked at that?
I’m looking into changing my sensor 6 pt mount to a invisible zero point mount. This design would retain all the positives of an electronic tension head AND would avoid the issue of blocked holes.

I know. I know. Brilliant, huh? 8-B

Dude, quick, you better get an NDM out there! That is pure brilliance!

I wonder how much I could get. What do you think the cost would be to convert?
Well you would essentially be creating the greatest-est stringing machine of all time... I'd estimate the cost at just short of 1 gazillion TTW credits, or roughly 2 Bitcoin.

This time, I was able to pass the string behind the blocking mount and get to the grommet.
What I did notice is that the blocking mount gets caught in the tensioner, as the string pivots around the blocking mount.
Oh well.

you're not doing something right then, but honestly your description of an apparent "issue" isn't
clear enough for anyone to understand, i don't think.

It is pretty obvious what I am saying, if you own a 6-point mount.
Since you do not, get lost, piker.

Think about it, Sherlock, if the mount is blocking the hole,
guess what happens when you tension the string?

You're pulling the string around the mount pull the string from the other side of the mount by simply passing the string between the racket and the mount.

No, I am not doing that. That makes absolutely no sense.
If I passed it around the mount, when I tensioned the string,
the stringer would become tied to the racket !

Wow! @TimeToPlaySets
What @Irvin is saying is that when your string is close to a side mount, you can tension string either on right side or left side of mount depending on string angle to the tensioner. You are evidently pulling from the wrong side.@Irvin was correct and made perfect sense
Struggle was attempting to help, but your description was rather vague, as you did say mount is getting caught in tensioner, and if mount is actually in tensioner, that is most unlikely, as your description is terrible, and so are your comments.
I would like to see a picture of your machine mount in tensioner, as you did say that, or are you going to argue that as well? What you said makes no sense, and @struggle was correct on your vague post, and you criticize, and act very rude, what a guy!
Be nice, if that is at all possible for you to be!
You ask for comments or help, and then you say you know better and criticize others.
If you know it all, then why post at all?
Unbelievable!!!!!

The only person in the world who had trouble with a Parnell knot would likely also be the only person in the world to have trouble with a six-point mount.
TTPS has probably stared at a basketball for years and is still scratching his head wondering how to use it.

If I understand what ttps post was ,(which was not very clear) , then @Irvin gave proper response. Instead of thanks, or not understand, he gives a pathetic response. Along with slamming @struggle, this guy is something else. Can't even take constructive advise without criticism being thrown back so....
My advice to ttps is something's in life are not meant to be, so maybe stringing is just not your thing, so leave it up to the professional to string your racquets.

I was stringing a racket this morning and my turntable got caught up in the tensioner. I flipped the thingamajig on the watchacallit and my mount got stuck in my diablo. Needless to say, “I am NOT have a good day.”

EDIT: No need to respond I woke up and the nightmare was over. Must have been something I ate last night that caused my crazy nightmare. LOL

Excellent post!
Should get post of the month award.

AHH! Now I get what Irvin meant. I thought he was messing with me. Yes, I see what you mean now. I will see what side the racket will get pulled to, and thread the string the other way so it does not get wrapped around the mount, and has a direct line to the tensioner. Makes perfect sense now! Irvin is a great resource. Settle down Jim, it's just the internet.

Seriously, are you really this obtuse?

No, you need to settle down. It’s about time to realize you don’t know much. Open up your mind. Change your attitude. And learn some manners.
