As the title says, this is for fans of 80s new wave, synthpop, britpop, eurodisco, etc..to discuss fav bands and songs.... and the good old days.

An official Child of the 80's, for better or for worse...

Already mentioned: The Cure, NO, DM - of course.

The Fixx. Reach the Beach was my favorite album for a while.

English Beat/General Public, Echo & The Bunnymen.

WAX TRAX! bands like (early)Ministry, Front242, Revco.

Time Zone's "World Destruction" - an 80's alt/new wave badass anthem.

A band I always considered new wave, even though it was mostly just two guitars and a drum kit, was The Smiths (probably the greatest of all the 80's bands). They were asymmetric enough from the standard rock/pop fare at the time.

Heck, you can even throw early U2 in the mix as well.

I was born in 86. All through high-school I thought that 80s music was lame, but within the past few years I've developed a taste for it.

My 80's channel is now my favorite on pandora. The Cure, Depeche Mode, U2... all sooo good.

Listening to "Friday I'm in Love" right now.

Ah, the 80s...my carefree high school days. My username says it all...I actually created an iTunes genre in my music library called "80s New Wave". I could go on and on about all my old faves from New Order, Yaz/Yazoo, Flock of Seagulls, Dominatrix, Ebn Ozn, Bronski Beat, Joy Division, Tears for Fears, Alphaville, Talk Talk, Thomas Dolby, and the Psychadelic Furs...Good times they were.

That's an excellent list right there. Talk Talk was probably my all time favorite.

Endgames is another great band that didn't get the credit they deserved and never had their music available on CD or iTunes (good condition LPs of Building Beauty now going for up to $50 on that auction site).

ABC, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Fixx, English Beat were all great.

On a slightly different note (pun intended) I ust got tickets to see THE CARS with 4/5 of the original lineup. Man, do they have some great songs! There just aren't bands that write such crafty songs like that anymore.

I've felt that folks never gave these 2 bands all that much credit

Just saw OMD in Oakland at the Fox Theatre on March 26th. Amazing amazing sold out show. First time they have toured in the US in 20 years or so I believe. Well worth it and they will be back!

Tears for Fears (the original duo) are touring again. Might go see that.

Spandau Ballet toured a little bit last year, might go out again in 2012. George Michael has an album coming out later this year.

There a very few songs I enjoy more that True by Spandau Ballet. I also paid money in the 90's for a very hit or miss Duran Duran tribute album with Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish, Less than Jake, Jimmy Eat World etc.

Since the OP included synth-pop and related genres, I go with Berlin, The Cars, Blondie and Tears for Fears as some of my favorites from the post-punk era.

I bought the album the day it came out. Loved the concert they streamed on youtube a few weeks ago, but I could do without the David Lynch directed weirdness.

Lots of different sub-categories being mentioned here - count me in. Bands mentioned are ranging from new-wave, to later 80's alternative bands (I viewed as a separate category personally) but not important.

Nice call whoever mentioned the Specials. I personally love English Beat as well.

Anyway recognizing that I don't need to limit myself to "new wave", The Smiths, New Order, Yaz, Talking Heads, The Pogues, The Replacements and countless others.

I still listen to the Cars and Blondie. Blondie's good summertime music, and there are very few bands that can rhyme the word "sacroiliac."

John's been posting setlists on his twitter and facebook page after every show, its been an interesting mix. Today he hinted that all these changes are a lead-up to their appearance at Coachella this weekend. I hope they bring back Save a Prayer on Thursday, but I'll accept New Moon on Monday as a substitute.

George Michael is a great singer and has done some good covers but he butchered New Order's True Faith.
Duran Duran is still going strong and I love John Taylor's bass lines.
Has anyone noticed Nu Shooz' 'I can't wait' has been copied by some **** hip hop artist?

I agree about the True Faith cover, but he has explained that he wanted to do something completely different since it was a one-off fundraiser. I do not like the excessive use of the vocoder, but for some reason I like the video. It seems to fit together somehow.
