8th Gen 2025 Ezone 98 Strings

Opening a thread dedicated to the new 2025 Ezone 98 (blue 8th gen) and everyone's preferred string setups. I'll share my own trials thus far:

Racket: 8th Gen Ezone 98 with about 2 grams at 12, slightly built up grip. Overall feels more powerful and less boardy that last gen Ezone.

Strings:
PTP yellow 1.25 50lbs: Felt too bouncy, new ezone is pretty powerful and I didn't feel like I had enough control with PTP at 50.
PTS black 1.25 50lbs: Pretty great all around, my current setup, good spin, good control, controls the power well.
Strike/Rev(white) 1.25 52/50: Felt a little bit stiff off the getgo but actually a nice hybrid that I wasn't expecting. Rev is nice and slippery (treat it like a round string) and I like how strike feels.

Haven't tried too many strings so far, currently sharing my racket with a Chinese player (~ATP 500 or so peak) and strike isn't lasting too long, wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations. I've been thinking about prestretching strike 5% and stringing at 48, has anyone tried that?

I started pre stretching poly 5% and will never go back to not doing it.

I recommend stringing 5% lower than the tension you want. I wanted 41; so I strung at 39 with 5% pre stretch.

This is too low for the new ez98. I’m going to go up a few pounds as I restring. It’s still very playable. Just I have to work a little harder to control the ball than I’d like.

my score card so far:

Mint Rev 1.25 @52: Wonderfully controlled and predictable, decent spin (less that I would have though), good comfort, moderate to low power.
Mint Rev 1.25 @52 / Blue Strike @52: I felt was inferior to the full bed rev. A bit more power, but ess control, stiffer, less feel
Hyper G 1.2 @53 / Hyper G round @52: feels really good in this racket. Less feel than rev, but more power without significant loss of control
Toroline K-pop @ 53/52: spin is out of this world, but this is far too stiff and underpowered for me. May be with a lot less tension..

So hyperG and Rev are my faves so far. I want to try rev 1.2 next..

You did rev mains strike crosses?

If you flip those I want to know your thoughts!

I decided to try the reverse first and liked it a ton.

Had never been a fan of full rev in other rackets. Will eventually try full rev in this one but maybe you save me the time? …. Or hurry me into it :)

Which gauge/tension did you try?

Right now my thought it to go Rev 17 to get just a little more pop and liveliness
125.

Rev in a full bed in other rackets always had this weird empty feeling to me. In a hybrid I’ve really liked it. It plays well with other strings.

I like stiffer mains softer crosses though. Hence why I have the orientation I have.

Just tried Confidential mains and Rev crosses @19/18kg. Great combo compared to my usual confidential/strike setup. Not sure how long it’ll last as it was already losing a bit of control after the first hour but that first hour was great.

Can the @admins combine the two ez98 string threads into one

Yeah I really goofed I searched but didn't see the other thread

Definitely prefer Rev in the cross with Strike as a main, much much much better than rev mains

After playing with Hyper-G 1.25, I’ve tried Poly Tour Rev Mint 1.25 in the EZ98. Felt too muted for me that I had to take off the dampener to get some ball feel. I definitely prefer Hyper-G over Rev. The only thing I really liked about Rev was the color that matched part of the frame.

Full bed of Rev(purple) at 52lbs, decent spin and feel but I felt I had more spin on the demo I tried with PTP.
I will try the O-toro full bed next and feel that might work better on this.

Wasabi/Wasabi X - 50lbs

Probably 90% close with this one for me. Feels a tad stiff but for the most part liking how it feels and plays. I'll probably lower it to 47 or 48 next time.

can someone suggest for thiss racket the best possible combos out of these strings along with the best performance string colours?

Yonex Polytour Strike 1.25
Yonex Polytour Pro 1.25
Yonex Polytour REV 1.25
Yonex Polytour Spin 1.25
Yonex Polytour Fire 1.25

Head Lynx Tour 1.20

I have a fairly similar setup: 1g @12. Leather grip + OG

Feels great! Was using a slightly softer shaped poly before and it was too "mushy".

It’s a pretty dense pattern. 1.20 poly has been really good for me.

Currently enjoying 1.20 toroline caviar but have some different offerings in route. I had a good experience with hyper g 17g (1.20) in previous gen

Just re-tried full-PTP setup at 52, plays incredibly well, far better than at 50. It feels much more "crisp" while maintaining high amounts of pocketing and comfort. 50lbs was too mushy and uncontrolled for me. I think I may try 53 next time, but this seems to be the sweet spot for me and this racket with PTP.

I've tried a few different set ups in my Ezone's, here's the list in order:

1) Mach 10 16L @52lbs, Caviar 1.24 crosses @50lbs

2) Caviar 1.24 Full bed/Grapplesnake Alpha 1.25 Full bed
3) Grapplesnake Tour M8 1.25 full bed
4) Toroline o-toro tour Full bed
5) O Toro (normal, green), Tour mains/enso pro crosses

A little about my playstyle for context: ~UTR 5 with an attacking, power-focused, net-rushing game; big serves. Strokes are generally flatter.

With Mach 10/Caviar, the ball has an almost L shaped trajectory; missile speed and flatter trajectory, when it spontaneously decides "I'm going to spin down now." Feel is good enough with the caviar crosses, durability/playability has also been very good, handling hitting with my hard hitting partners (wayyyy better than me), easily, with minimal notching and no drop in playability at the 10 hour mark. I think Tenncom said it best when he said Mach 10 is a great, "more accessible," string.

2-4 were all fine, and felt like normal strings to me. Good spin, normal arc on the ball, pretty good/great durability. Solid strings that would serve me well if I wasn't a big ****in nerd or Wow'd by the Mach10/Caviar.

O-toro hybrid is last for me because I don't think I'm good enough to get the most out of those strings. I hit to flat, and can't consistently swing fast and loose enough to get the appropriate response out of O-toro. When I perfectly hit the ball, I got massive pace and spin, but I just don't think I'm good enough to use those strings quite yet, the response is just too variable.

I tried O-toro tour in this frame today at 48lbs. Very firm feeling string and it seems to compliment the softness of the frame quite well.
I need to play with it a bit more, but recommend people give it a shot!

cocktail 1
Mains : Grapple snake 's gamechanger (green) (49)
Cross : head normal hawk 1.20 (grey/silver) (47)
This tension combo is based on what you have tried
Cocktail 2
Mains : Grapple snake' s Aspera Triplum (51)
Cross : pro supex big ace revo 1.19 (50)
This tension combo is based on what you have tried

I tried both cocktail mix for ezone 98 Tour 2025(at a higher tension than what I have recommended) , quite fun, haha. Take the ball on the rise to flatten it out. Haha
.

I tried Orange Rev 125 full bed @53. The spin is below expectations. It is firm as expected. it has some power.
My rating for each factor out of 10:
Power: 7/10
Control: 7/10
Spin: 6/10
Comfort: 6/10
Do you think I should lower the tension to get a good spin, or do I have to change the setup? I prefer Yonex strings because they are cheap where I live.

Just tried

Mach 10 16g mains @48
Hyper G round 17g x’s @50

4 hours in and I’m very happy with the feel. Launch is a little high. Maybe increasing the mains tension next time.

I have had a lot of success with PT Rev at slightly lower tensions (48lbs) I use 1.15.

I played yesterday with the Solinco Outlast at 21 kg and I really liked the string, no pain in my shoulder or elbow, serve coming out very powerful, FH too.

Just bought this racquet-extra 3 grams on the 9 and 3 for stability, may put 2-3 grams at 12 soon for a little more power. Restring Sync 50 in the crosses, VS Touch 55lb. in the mains. Expensive at purchase, but this combo lasts me a long time with great durability so the cost is just a little more over a years time. Plays great, no shoulder/elbow issues. Switched from a Pure Strike(which I loved)because this racquet was more stable against higher velocity balls and a little better serving. If you don't like to string often like me I'd give this a try. I've loved Lux 4g soft, X-1 biophase, and some great multi-filaments like NRG2 would all be worth stringing one up to try.

Any recommendations for a Hybrid setup of Multi/Poly? Or maybe soft Poly with Stiffer Poly? Currently using P2P @54 and feel its a bit lacking. Its not bad but feel its not great either. Could do with a bit more of everything like feel, comfort and power. Perhaps i should go down in tension a little bit to add some power.

I’ve really been enjoying Kirschbaum Pro Line 1.25 mains and Technifibre Multifeel black crosses, both at 53lbs in the 2025 EZ98. I started out with PTP as well and wasn’t impressed with anything about it in this frame.

Strung it recently with Confidential at 45/43.. I didn't like it at all initially but let it sit for a few days and played again yesterday and it seems to be much better. Getting a lot of spin with the stiffer string.
I still prefer full bed of O-toro at 52lbs in the racket.

Currently only used Solinco Tour Bite 1.25mm, overall quite good in terms of power and control but still didn't feel like it generated much spin. Also lacking connection to the ball as the frame is very soft, need to experiment a bit more. Considering using a full bed of Yonex Poly tour spin. Feel like this racquet needs a thin rough string.

Did you use 16 or 17 in the multifeel?

So far my favorite setup is Volkl Cylclone Yellow 17g @ 38# and Wilson Revolve Orange 17g @ 38#. Lots of spin and control despite the low tension. Not the best on durability though ...

Working on dialing in a setup on my Ezone 98 2025 as well. So far have tried full bed of Polytour Fire 1.20, a full bed of PolyTour Pro 1.20 at ~51#. The matrix that Yonex has on their site between "soft" and "firm" on x-axis, with "ball pocketing" and "responsive" on y-axis puts both strings on soft side with Fire on the responsive side, and Pro on the ball pocketing side. This matches my experience so far- where so far I think I prefer Fire as the responsiveness feels good in the dampened frame of the Ezone 98. Have to hit a bit more with the PTP though.

I played with the 2022 version, but I’ll just add on this one since I assume they’re pretty similar ?(doesn’t seem like yonex has done much to the racket ). I tried strike/ptp and rev/ptp and I feel like I could do with a little more spin from the frame ? Any other setups to mediate this ? I would prefer to keep ptp in the crosses since I already have a reel of that

Confidential mains.. I’ve been using confidential with strike crosses on my 25 EZ98 since it’s release and an Aqua night EZ100. Brings up the launch angle and spin while taking away a bit of the plastic feel of solincos offerings. Performance wise I’d say the 22 and 25 are similar but the 22 is more raw while the 25 adds a bunch more comfort. I had an aqua night EZ98 for a bit, but it was harsh on my arm with this setup compared to the 25 EZ98 where I had zero issues.

Just got some otoro tour to try. Made sure to eat a bunch of tuna sashimi and nigiri before stringing it up for extra good luck that it fits.

On paper via twu specs… I’m hopeful — let’s see.
