8th Gen 2025 Ezone 98 Strings

Here is a “sleeper” setup:

MSV Co Focus 17L at 50/48.

Super thin, very comfortable, great snapback, and ball pocketing. Amazing control and precision. Just needs a high racquet speed to get the most out of its high spin potential.

You can also use Focus Hex 17L in mains for added ball grip and little extra launch.

I've been playing this setup for the last two months with no desire to switch:

Polytour Rev 1.25 Mint M/ Purple C | 36/38lbs

This is the first time I've enjoyed Polytour Rev. Amazing setup for my 98.

WOW! extremely low. Why?
I don't think polytour rev works for me at any tension I've tried, from 46-54, so I wanted to try super low since its low powered to see if I can get some feeling out of it. Turns out it works incredibly well for me. When I string the crosses in a lower tension setup, I do the crosses +2lbs, and I make sure to pull each cross down and back up with the awl to get it a tad tighter. Works beautifully for me. I also have a Supreme x Ezone 100 305g strung with Razor Soft 1.20 at 46 and it feels great as well.

Just tried Razor Code 1.25 black at 43lbs, feels perfect. Nicely crisp compared to PTS, decent spin and comfort while giving me quite a bit of feedback.

What’s a good string for the ezone 98 for someone who hits predominantly flat on both forehand and backhand but could do with an extra bit of lift? Have liked the ptp in the ezone so something similar to that perhaps but with better control and feel as for me, it can feel mushy the ptp in the ezone. Any suggestions would be appreciated please.

I played with a WeisCannon Ultra Cable on the 98 recently and it feels great so far, lots of spin potential. Also strung another racket with a full bed of NG as I'm coming back from a wrist injury.. feels lacking for control as expected, but has a lot of pop.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ultra cable your favourite string in the ezone 98? Brings out a lot of spin so for those who play with spin, it’s a great option. I just wonder for someone who hits flat, would you be getting the best out of it. Did you still have a lot of control with the ultra cable in the ezone?

Yes, Ultra cable seems to have lot of control, however I would say my favorite is Otoro full bed at 48lbs.
My backhand side is pretty flat and it seems to work well with it. Also Yonex PTP is a good fit for this racket as long as you are ok with it's plasticy feel.

How does o toro play in the ezone? Have tried kpop in the ezone and found it to be very controlled with a fair bit of spin but not much power from it. Ptp is always the best one to start with but the feel isn’t great.

I feel it plays very well, better than the PTP for sure. The feel is a little plasticy but not as much as PTP.
It's very comfortable, has good spin and tension maintenance overall. I've tried a number of different Toroline strings and this one seems to play the best. Give it a shot and decide.

I have tried zero/sync at 48/45 and haven’t looked back. I wonder if zero in full bed is good enough, as I am out of sync, but still have a few sets of zero
I have full bed of zero in my ezone 98. The first time playing I really needed to adjust, coming from tfight 305s with mach10. Which gave more control. Now I played more with the ezone and zero, im getting more used to it. I also want to try mach10 in my ezone to see which one plays better.

Has anyone tried a full bed of gut?
I have, was coming back from wrist injury I strung up VS Gut at 55lbs. It felt great while it lasted(about a month). Great combination of power, spin and feel as is expected from NG. My mains broke and I did half piece stringing with a poly which is still holding up.

I'm tempted to string with Mojo setup (mains natgut, cross Isospeed prof classic) but I also fear it could be too powerful

Any tips or suggestions for a string to better hold the ball on the Ezone 98 2025? I think it releases the ball too much and I'd like a bit more control and precision!

What do you currently have as the strings? Depending on your preferences, you could go with strings that have more pocketing(usually softer options like soft polys, hybrids) or lower tension to increase pocketing. Or you could go with stiffer strings(stiff strings give less of that elastic feel off the stringbed) or increase tension so that the ball deflects less off of the strings.

Anyone tried otoro spin/wasabi X? How did it perform?

I found OtoroSp/Enso too lively and OtoroSp/otoro snap better but still too much.

I love spin/wasX in the 100 @50/48 version but haven’t tried it yet in the 98. I’m gonna try it in the 98 at a low tension to see if I can get more spin and associated control.

Maybe Toroline is just suboptimal for me in the 98….but I reallly need bright colors because they make me happy.

I do have some sync and Polytour rev I could give a go but also thinking about kpop.

not the 2025 version, but I have strung my 2020 version with full bed of MSV Focus Hex 1.10 at 24/23kg and it played crazily good. I was using shaped/round poly hybrids around 19-20kg before. This setup now is a substantial upgrade in power, feedback/feel and spin. Its the best playing string I ever tried in the Ez98. Hit with it only for 2 hours so far, so no idea of the longevity aspect, but the strings still snap back normally and there is just some minimal notching. If the tension holds, I think the durability will be fine for me.

I just got my ezone 98 after loving the test from a friend some time ago.
I bought it used and i tried with the polyfiber rapid 1.25 that had on: nice power but too low tension, was too much launchy at times.

I have available:

-polytour pro gialle 1.25
-polytour rev mint 1.25
-hybrid o-toro / enso pro

Which you think will work best? If you had to rank them by more to less power, what would it look like?

Thanks

Völkl Cyclone Tour 16G at 64lbs. I know it sounds crazy, but VCT loses around 9 lbs after the first 4 hours of playing. This is the very first setup which let me play with abso ulutly no shoulder and elbow pain. By the way. Which is your opinion? Is the 98 V8 much more powerful than the v7?

I started with Head Hawk Touch 17ga at 52m/50c and really liked it. Ever since Mach 10 came out I've been playing the 16L at the same tension setup and it's also been good. Just went back to the Head Hawk Touch since I had extra sets left and didn't like it at first, second time out started really liking it. Hawk Touch is a heavier string so racquet has a little more swing weight. It's also more predictable off the string bed in terms of power and spin. It's a little less powerful then Mach 10, but it's free me up to swing a little more aggressively and not worry about fliers so in the end I think I'm hitting just as hard, but more consistently. Feel is great and I feel a little more dwell time on the strings. I like edged strings, but my biggest beef is the snap back isn't as consistent so you get more spin, but there are surprise from time to time with launch and spin. I might stick with Head Hawk touch for a while.
