8th Gen Yonex Ezone

I really, really like the current Ezone 100. If it was possible to improve comfort, it would certainly be even better.

I wonder though if these type of very stiff power frames can actually be made “comfortable” despite all kinds of anti vibration tech …..?
I think Speed MP and Textreme Tour 100 are the solution to this myth. They are not that powerful, but comfortable enough. Possibly the max balance could be achieved now.

Those two frames are for sure more comfortable, but they don’t really directly compare to the Ezone 100, Pure Drive etc.

The Speed MP, I would compare more with Percept 100, Pure Strike 100, Blade 100 etc.

For my game, I really need the easy power and stability these typical tweener frames offer.

On a different note, it seems the new Prince Beast 2024 model have something that sounds very similar to Yonex Serve Filter. They seem to call it PVS II.

Translated by google translate:

“The new material, polymer elastomer, has been installed in an expanded range from the grip to the shaft, filtering out the impact and unpleasant vibrations when hitting a ball, and transmitting only comfortable hitting information to the hand. Achieves unprecedented super shock absorption and super vibration absorption. ”

Okay, I got you. Beast released in Japen exclusively started from the last iteration. There is no armpain-free Pure Driver on the market, but some comfortable 100 that is still powerful.

With Percept naming and color, it looks like Yonex applied the Sage archetype. To continue with that approach, they have a range of possible archetypes with EZONE to communicate ease of use and/or power:

Hero (Red, Yellow, Black)
Ruler (Black or Purple)
Regular Guy (Blue or Brown) - approach originally taken by Babolat
Innocent (White)

Power metaphor/Ruler are most in line with overall Yonex brand, as "Far beyond ordinary" slogan indicates, so Black with Yellow accents makes most sense.

More likely, it's the Pantone Color Institute or Akzo Nobel Global Aesthetic Center (Dulux), saying that the big color trend for <start date to end date / season> is aqua or mint green. Contrasting color will be pink. It varies seasonally, annually.

And just like that, BOOM! It's everywhere, in every sector, segment, product line, fashion, etc. They plan it out years in advance, so everyone gets on-board and aren't left in the lurch.

Don't believe me? Look at the cover of the current print issue of Car and Driver magazine: https://www.discountmags.com/magazine/car-and-driver

Nothing is coincidental...especially where there's big $ in play.

According to Yonex, Servo Filter is:
A film material that achieves accurate sensory information through two key characteristics: reducing unwanted vibration and enabling higher flexibility.
Developed by Mitsubishi Chemical Group, SERVO FILTER is a transparent film placed between graphite utilizing its high elasticity and bonding properties. The film does not harden in heat during the molding process; it retains its flexibility and reduces unwanted vibration by 14%.

If it's so groundbreaking, why would they not add it?

Most likely in January 2024, around the Australian Open.
I'm sure demos and that kind of thing will start popping up (but not sure we ever really saw the Percept or the new VCores this year until pretty close before launch so they may keep a tight lid on it) I'm sure it will be a big launch given Ezone is their biggest line, Osaka and Kyrgios will likely be returning to action with the new paintjob (as well as Shelton, Ruud etc...)

I just moved from the VCore 98 to the EZone 100. I had developed a bit of wrist pain after using poly in the 98, and was about to go see the doc. I played with the 100 completely pain free. The added power is welcome. Spin is good with a little more work than the VCore but comfort is king!

I wonder how we got from "bold new color" minor changes to no changes at all and matte black lol
I hit up the sales guy who I first talked to, he said they ultimately decided their rackets are moving to 3 year updates, and the update in development was forgone.

At this point I’m taking it with zero stock

The 2017 Ezone was the 4th gen wasn't it? Dr the 3rd gen, the 2019 6th gen the new style Ezone mold we have now.

What was the difference between the 4th and 5th gen? Nothing right? Just a paintjob. 2017 was green, then 2018 blue?

I didn't keep track or follow since I hated that RA flex rating and heard horrible things haha

Held the new EZone in hand today. It is pretty for sure. Black/gray color scheme.

No changes from the current model.

No pics due to embargo

Does it resemble the limited edition ezone 100. I think it was a japan exclusive:

I keep trying other frames but always return to the EZ98. At the end of the day it's a great frame... don't blame them for not changing it.

they usually give her the updated paint to start and then do an Osaka special later in the year
If it’s going to be 3yrs product cycle not likely have an Osaka version? Otherwise will have another Osaka later next yr

yeah i suspect they will do an Osaka later in the year (or re-release the dragon maybe) but they won't launch the "new" Ezone at the same time as an Osaka special, they'll try and get people to double dip later in the year

If this is only a cosmetic change, is this a gen 7.5 with the gen 8 coming in 2025 to start the 3 year cycle? or is this the gen 8 and we won’t see a real updated ezone until 2027? None of that seems really clear.

I’d assume 7.5 but who knows

From my sources, I'm hearing this is just another PJ for the 7th gen. I'd only consider it a 7.5 gen if they made one change, like ServoFilter instead of VDM. Or a slight change in geometry. But a PJ-only change is considered the same gen.

I wonder how Yonex will market this...

It's a running PJ change as a placeholder until gen 8 comes out in 12 months+/-

There's a ski company, Black Crows, and at least one model that I'm interested in hasn't changed the formula in probably seven years. A new topsheet / colorway and call it a day.

If it works, it works...leave it alone, make bank.

Am I crazy? Am I the only one who can’t tell a difference? Does he have both old and new in his hands? Like I just can’t tell a difference

Sorry apparently the same video as above. Yonex released a black ezone this year for JDM I guess it's a bridging into this new PJ
