8th Gen Yonex Ezone

Talked to a Yonex Area Salesman via LinkedIn of all places, he said these notes on Ezone:

Same mold, new layup.
Addition of servo filter.

** Other reps have said different Info:
Cosmetic change without change to layup or tech.**

Cosmetic referred to as “Bold”
Soo.. you talked to reps who said there will be changes. And other reps said..there.will be no changes.. fascinating..

Is it a new one?

It's just flat blue - theres no branding or anything on it, which says to me shes testing the prototype of the new one and they painted it blue rather than blackout, believe they did some Prototype VCores in all red etc...
Correct. Likely what the base coat of paint looks like before decals and finishing paints

Just met up with a Yonex Rep and it's purple similar to RQiS 1 XL and a bit green on top of the throat. No servo filter and it has an extra (cant remember what they added) but its supposed to feel less vibration
Given that the feel of the current one isnt anywhere near good in my opinion, it still gives all the feedback i want from the stick. I'm not sure feeling less vibration is going to help here, but we'll see when the stick is released.

Never used the precept line, does servofilter make a big difference? I also found the VDM overbearing when you compare to other brand sticks.

Any more feel is more than welcome on the 2022 line.

I have briefly hit with the percept, and currently use the ezone 98. Servo filter is definitely less intrusive than VDM -- the percept still feels dampened and muted to some degree (compared to a raw graphite frame like an old duel g), but far less dampened than the ezone. Still has more feel than a v9 blade imo. I quite liked the feel of the percept with the servo filter. Personally I'm fine with having extra dampening on the ezone as my arm needs the extra comfort, but to each his own :) Ideally I could get both better feel without any sacrifice in comfort on the ezone.

Makes sense given how many times I’ve read it’ll be a ‘controversial’ colour.
I'm still gonna get one or 11.

I guess she said more plush feel instead of less vibration?

Not feeling the new PJ. I love the current look. Been using it EZ98s for a long time.

But let’s see what it plays like.

@Pooschnikens I remember you were talking about

taking the new ezone for a test drive in the other thread, any updates yet? Would love to hear your thoughts on it if possible.

So, I’ve had a chance to hit with the V.08 a couple times. Based on my experience. new one does feel a bit different however. Me, asured both with no mods orher than an overgrip and a dampener. Weight and balance are near the same. Where they differ is swing
weight. The V.08 measured at 319/320 kg/cm2. The V.07 came in at 313/314. A 5-6 point bump upwards is significant. Translated to a more solid & stable feel on impact. Did not feel any torsional deflection. It felt less polarized and swings more naturally IMO. With the V.07, at times I can feel/hear the hollowness of the hoop. With the V.08, I never sensed that at all. Felt more assured, never felt flimsy or hollow.
In terms of overall performance I think Yonex has outdone themselves here! It definitely reminds me of the DR 98 310g. Solid but never harsh.i
Where I see it having some detractors is the paint job. It’s nice and usual Japanese high quality. That said, the paint job I predict will be what brings it down.

It would take some serious work to crack an Ezone where those precepts have cracked.
True, the construction is different but I was more thinking about the technology they are going to put into the mould. Seems like servofilter might be doing this at Percepts.

Is it the final production pj ? Like the full blue one she is using ?

Promising news on the SW and I like the color.

Personally I like the new pain job. It’s less busy without the geometric pinstripe detailing. In fact, it’s present in nearly every prior Ezone. From the Ai to the V.07. It has again, IMO, a generally softer, lighter aesthetic. This is why I said it may not be as bold as say the Aqua Midnight black. I’ve shown it to a few people and teaching pros. The men, to a person noted the paint job as, “pretty”, “should be a hit with the ladies”, “THIS is the final production paint job? Hope they have a sharper, more masculine alternate in the works”.

Thanks for doing this. I'm assuming you are talking about the 98?

Yes. Have not hit the 100. Our rep technically wasn’t supposed to leave any frames with shop owners or teaching pros so I’m very grateful he afforded me the courtesy to try it. In fact, once I’ve completed my playtest, I’m to get it into the hands of Harry aka Mr “Tennis Spin” Youtuber. He’s planning to shoot a video playtesting and reviewing it to be released in December.

I'm a car nut, so to me it's close to the Lexus paint color Ultrasonic Blue Mica, I liked the old color but didn't like the modern laser etching/pinstriping or whatever that design was.

Higher swingweight is a major dealbreaker IMO...the whole point of the Ezone 98 is it's a players frame with some extra pop. It's easy enough to add a little lead tape to increase SW but you can't do much if it's already high. Will probably need to buy 2 more of the current gen and store them away then.

320 sounds really good to me, it will suits more people than previous 315 average sw. What's your current Ezone sw?

It won't make that much of a difference, but will add some benefits, the Regna is about 322 ish and is just as maneuverable as the ezone, but has some added benefits bc sw.

Agreed. 320 sounds really good which puts it closer to 323-325 with dampener. If it turns out to be true I can finally go back to using 17g and still have the SW be substantial enough.

How did the servo filter replacement for VDM feel? As long they reduce the muted feeling I feel like I’m buying a few of these.
