a ball reviver?

The "Gamma Revive Tennis Ball Pressurizer." here's a direct quote of the description.... can anyone confirm that it works? I've got a ton of old balls that I'd like to have re-pressurized to feel like brand new. does this thing really do that?

"The Gamma Revive Tennis Ball Pressurizer helps maintain the pressure of tennis balls. The pressurizer works by compressing atmospheric pressure between two cylinders to maintain 14 p.s.i. internal pressure when sealed, the same pressure inside your tennis balls when they are new. If left inside the Revive Ball Pressurizer long enough, a used ball will actually regain its original out-of-the-can pressure level."

Not sure, but I read an ad in SI that you could revive dead balls by placing them in an oven overnight with just the pilot light on. Haven't tried it, but maybe you can?

OK yes the oven thing does revive the ball and after like 4 hours it will be back but the ball has to be like next to the light some I'm guessing it would take a day or two for all the balls to come back if there not next to the light.
by the way don't try the microwave i did it for 5mins ball started like burning almost half of the ball was like black and burnt

Srsly? That's pretty cool. Thanks for trying it out rafael.

I bought a small one once (different brand). It sorta worked but I thought it wasn't very efficient. Took too long to revive the balls and they seemed to lose their bounce alot faster.

It's only good for keeping fresh balls from going flat too soon by storing them in the pressurized container. But if the balls already go flat, it won't restore them to the original pressure even if you keep them in there for a month. This is speaking from experience as I've already tried it out. But they do a good job keeping fresh balls from going flat too soon. I've been able to keep them fresh and use them for practice balls until they become worn out/bald enough to toss them out.

where can you buy them??

You can find them either online or at most of your local tennis stores for between $7-$10. There are 2 brands. One is the yellow Tennis Ball Saver can. The other is the clear Gamma Revive Tennis Ball pressurizer. They both use the same principle, just slightly different container designs. I have both and I prefer the yellow Tennis Ball Saver over the Gamma because it's easier to open/close.

If you don't play very often, they will help keep. The balls won't go flat just sitting around. Most tennis players crack a can a play a couple of sets, or have a good hitting session - these balls probably aren't work saving. Marketed more for the person that plays once every couple of months for 30 minutes or so...

I don't see how this could possibly work. Sounds like a good way to make your oven smell like tennis balls.

Raising the temperature of the air inside the balls will increase the pressure and make them bounce higher right out of the oven, but they'll quickly go flat again when they cool.

Same as putting them in a dryer. Bounce will quickly return to the previous flat state.

I have a tennis ball saver. Useful for keeping balls fresh between hitting sessions, but don't count on any miracle tennis ball revivals.

Was it the pilot light, like on a gas oven, or the little electric light that lets you see in an otherwise dark oven?
