You know what I find most annoying about this forum? No it's not the *******s, *******s or the Nalbytarts (me). It's the fact that brilliant posts are often lost in the sea of mediocrity. So I have made this thread to keep a collection of the best posts of the day. I 'll post my favorite one today, and then hopefully everyone else can contribute and we can read up on the most relevant, insightful and fascinating material posted.

Nadal didn't "really" win the AO open, only on paper. Fed basically choked and gave it to him. He did not play well at all in the final and still managed to take Nadal (albeit a tired one) to 5 sets. Nadal has been playing phenomenal tennis this past year, that level will not last.

Federer loves putting maximum pressure on his shoulders and bragging about doing things he has no idea if he can do. I am really making superhuman efforts to refrain from calling him a complete idiot.

He's really setting himself up for intense criticism if he doesn't win it now. What is the benefit of saying that kind of stuff? He will have all the time to say it if he qualifies for the final. Instead of that he's placing the bar really high straight away. His goal shoud be to play a good first round.

This is not smart from Federer. He is getting desperate.

So "I have the game to win the tournament" means he thinks he's not gonna win? You're not making sense either.
If he has the game to win Madrid, let him show it on the court. Bragging about it won't make it true.

Federer is currently just paying off his debt to God for all the luck he got to win the USO 2008. With interest. That was the deal.

Hes ready to win it , bring out no 15. MS for Fed hes got this , no one can stop Fed when hes ready

He should worry how to get to Nadal and the finals first, since he is not able to do that as well any more.

Now Fed is looking to win a tourney that is actually set up for him to have an early round exit. I think he sounds like a desparate man that is grasping at anything he can to try and build himself up to feel better. He is really damaged goods mentally right now.

In a slam, players play only every other day, players have a chance to recover even after a tough match. In other tournaments when they play every day, they can be affected, less than 24 hours is not enough recovery time.
Anyway there were other factors in Madrid tournament (conditions, amount of playing before arriving at tournament, draw, etc). The bottom line is a win is a win. Good for Federer to have played so well and collected a comprehensive victory at the end. It seems his serve was excellent all week.

Yes he did score the win and proved his point. I still dislike advance gloating, I dislike it on principle. The final outcome doesn't make a difference. I dislike gloating as much as I dislike making a scene after a loss. They're both reprehensible attitudes in my book and I'll stick by this opinion.

When someone is so competitive and ferocious in competition it is completely out of character to say oh so and so is a great player and I "hope" I play well against him when you damn well know you're going to beat him. Fed would say it (or at least allude to it) - this is honesty. It does not necessarily mean it will happen, BUT it is his feelings! Saying what you feel is not gloating. Nadal on the other hand has been trained to pay wonderful compliments to opponents when it's obvious it's just a load of crap - this is lying.

Frankly to believe that any athlete who excessively praises the opponent both before and after the match, is just plain naive. It's being "nice" for the media; just done for the press and public. It's not real. This is why Federer is refreshing. He tells it like it is...to him.

What he says to the media is what most other players in all sports say, whether intelligent or not. They give fake praise. Actually thankfully for Fed: if Nadal hadn't had the walkover, he may have lost in the quarter or in the semi in a faster match and Fed would probably have lost the final against a fresh Djoko or at the very least have had a tougher final to play. So all in all I think things all worked out to Fed's advantage, which is a good thing for him as he needed that win to restore some confidence and remain competitive against the top players.
Federer is the new king of clay because he won Madrid? Really? Nadal has won 2 clay masters and a 500 this season. Fed will have to work a little bit more to become the king of clay: try 25+ clay titles, 4 RG titles, 5 Monte-Carlo, 5 Barcelona and 4 Rome titles and then he'll be ready for the prestigious coronation.

You are no angel here by any means.When I was new I thought you just didnt like Roger but I was okay with you otherwise.You however have proven to be every bit of the troll you are called.Reading some of your posts after the match makes me feel sorry for the fact that I thought you were just another fan who did not like Fed but was good to discuss with on a general basis.And I'm sad it didnt turn out to be so.
