from the article:
  • Nadal, with 19 Grand Slam titles, is now just one shy of Roger Federer's all-time record
  • Big 3 of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer dominated the decade with titles and forays into the finals
  • Federer could only add five majors to his 15 from the previous decade

For ATP, 2010-2019 is the decade with the least number of slam winners - 6. The next least is probably 1920s with 11.
For WTA, 20102019 is the decade with the most number of slam winners - 19. The next highest is probably 1930s with 16.

Obvious third wheel is obvious.

5 slams is a lot.

Admittedly 4/5 of those were vultured slams that took advantage of the best player's injury. 2012 Wimby is the only truly impressive slam win. 2017 AO halfway so.

OK, 3.5/5.
Like most of Djokovic slams since 2014 then if that’s the case. Fedal both declined. If Fed maintained his 2012 level Nole would have 2 Wimbledon at most.

Not talking about "declines" and "primes".

1. RF wasn't the best player in 2014 onwards.
2. Djokovic won slams regardless of anyone's injuries, especially 2014 onwards. (He hasn't lost to RF or Rafa in a slam since 2014).
3. Djokovic hasn't lost a slam match to RF since 2012 so whether RF plays or not is irrelevant.
4. Novak-Roger 5-0 in slams since 2012.

Djokovic's injuries definitely changed everything. Rafa won USO 17 and 19 mainly because of this, RF won AO 17 and 18 and Wimby 17 because of this mainly.

Not saying Novak would have won all 5 without an injury, but he would have won at least 2-3 of them, so now 20-19-16 would be more like 18-17-20.

Eh it's all part of the cycle between nadal and djoker. they both go on a good run and then get hurt it seems. Djoker wasn't hurt in 2013 and lost RG and USO to Nadal.

Rafa was abysmal for a couple years and then djoker and andy ruled and then djoker had the djoker slam and followed that up with some of the worst tennis of his career after he won the french.

And as far as injuries go we can play what ifs all day. They all get hurt and Rafas been hurt more than djoker...

Rafa's career is a series of comebacks, and nearly always instantly successful. Not many tennis fans understand how tough that is.

The dominance is really 15 years. There have been 6 slam champions in the last decade, and only 8 in the last 15 years so that dominance predated this decade.

The dominance is astounding:

Djokodal have won 28 of the 40 slams this decade (70%)
Djoker has won 15 of 40 (38%)
Rafa has won 13 of 40 (32%)
The field (anyone other than the big 3) have won 7 (17%)
Federer has won 5 (13%)

Only five players won a slam all decade (there are only six active slam winners on tour)
AO has had three winners (Fed, Djoker, Stan)
RG has had three winners (Rafa, Djoker, Stan)
WC has had four winners (Rafa, Djoker, Fed, Murray)
USO has had five winners (Rafa, Djoker, Murray, Cilic, Stan)
Djoker achived the decade slam
Rafa and Stan won three of the four in the decade
Fed and Murray won two of the four in the decade

After age 30, Stan won 2 Slams, Federer won 4, Nadal won 5, and Djokovic won 4.
Very impressive. I wonder if anyone will be able to win a Slam at age 40.
