A different comparison between Alcaraz and Sinner

Admittedly, Alcaraz is my favorite player. But I still like Sinner. Sinner has been known as the more consistent and dominant player(setting record for dominance ratios, only player to lead ATP in service hold and service break% for a year, etc). But Alcaraz is known to be very clutch. Which one of the two will win the slam race between the two of them? I have no idea. But I lean towards Alcaraz, due to his clutch play against tough opponents.

Alcaraz getting to a 5th set was like the Yankees getting to the 9th inning with a lead with Mo Rivera coming to the mound to close it out. It’s usually game over. OTOH, Sinner has struggled big time.

It’s fun that I finally have a favorite player that’s very clutch. Mac was pretty clutch, but nowhere close to this. Federer….I won’t go there, except in 2017-to-early-2018 when he finally played like he had nothing to lose. Alcaraz has been that guy like Borg, Sampras, and Djokovic. I just hope that he keeps this up. But I do have this hollow feeling that Djokovic will avenge his 2023 Wimbledon loss by out-clutching Alcaraz in the 5th set in Sunday’s final.

Anyway, it’s been fun to watch this Alcaraz fellow. He’s another iceman.

Yeh, Carlos plays Djoko, and Jannik plays Fed.

And the 5th separates the Alcaraz and Djokovic from the Sinner and Federer.

I have this feeling that Sinner won’t hit his peak until he’s 27-28 years old. He really needs to work on his endurance(cramps in the heat and runs out of gas in the 5th set). He also needs to get better at clutch points.

Carlos would want a revenge for the Olympics imo. Then again he's probably thinking solely of that 7th slam this Sunday more than anything else.

It’s frightening how good Alcaraz has been. You can throw any top-5 player against him and he will be a very tough out. And good luck going to a 5th set. As for Sinner, it’s mostly the opposite.

I’m not going to give Sinner a rough time for losing this match all by itself. He lost to a zoning legend. But this match isn’t a one-off by any means. If a good player pushes Sinner to a 5th set, then he’s in big trouble.

I’m going to take a look at my two favorites(beside Alcaraz) to see how they did.

In all fairness Fed's record is moreso due to that incredible clutch ability to stretch out matches he should have lost in before the 5th, and take it the distance... Wim 08 F, AO 13 SF, Wim 14 F come to mind.

On the other hand it seems Sinner is losing matches in the 5th that he has no business letting go that far in the first place.
