Stunning collection.

Thank you. It has been almost a decade in the making. I rememeber I bought my first Winter Premier Rafa Crew in Gamma blue/(Dark loden) [551631-408] on Dec 14, 2013 on the heels of Rafa's sensational 2013 season.

Have you also collected any of the Rafa shoe lines?

Unfortunately, I am very selective with the shoes, limiting my purchases to pairs in which Rafa won a GS (and this too may seem random as my collector rule change over time)

Bandanas/Headbands is another category I don't collect since I prefer hats.

Other than that, I collect pretty much everything that can be purchased.

would love to see other elements of your collection.

At https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/post-pictures-of-your-apparel.194403/post-15636275, you can see my collection of Rafa premier wristbands from Aug 12, 2021.

As for the rest, the entire collection is pretty huge consisting of almost 1,000 pieces. As you can imagine, it would be pretty hard to put everything on display at once. This being said, I have been toying with the idea of documenting it and publishing it in the form of an on-line catalog of sorts. Rafa's fashion diaries, so to speak.

Enough about me. What about your collection 8-B?

I don’t have any collection to speak of. Any tennis gear I buy unfortunately gets used and destroyed in the process :-D

I admire the discipline of collectors who are gradually piecing together the items and keeping them in pristine condition.

If you have all the shoes from his major wins, you must have an awesome collection!! The court ballistecs just from his 2010 major wins were killer.

I sometimes look up the Nike Supreme Court and Challenge Court gear from the preceding era and the prices now are out of control. I imagine the same is going to happen Nadal’s gear, only more so given how important the Big 4 era is to tennis.

The Breathe Free/Cage lines were so good. Even if Rafa had the custom tongue.

*Sorry to hijack the thread.

These Breathe Cages had the hardened upper/cage exterior. Once creased, they pressed down and rubbed against your toes and top of your foot. Most painful shoes I ever bought.

It looks like after 6+ years with the Heritage86 model, we are going to get a new model of Rafa's signature hat in 2023.

From the renders, the following 3 things stand out/make their glorious comeback:
  • ventilation panels
  • Velcro strapback
  • the brim also looks more like its old self
Maybe NikeCourt has finally decided to put an end to the dichotomy of Rafa wearing a Featherlight and the public getting the Heritage86 equivalent in different colors more often than not (it sure had to hurt sales)?

why the hate for h86? its the softest hat Nike has probably ever produced. Has a really nice bill. Also durable and doesnt fade much in the sun

this new iteration looks like its made of cheaper poly and not as premium of construction. am i way off base on that?

For me, the "hate" mostly stems from the fact that Rafa keeps using the 3rd generation hats which are perfectly color-coordinated with his outfits while we get Heritage86 in strange color choices or, even worse, none at all (as was the case for half of 2022). As an example, just look at a gorgeous US Open 2021 hat Emma is wearing in the picture a few posts above. This is a vivid Binary blue/(Laser orange) hat perfectly color-coordinated with his night-session outfit. What did we get? A Royal blue/(White) one, and Royal blue is nowhere to be found in that outfit.

I also like 1st and 3rd generation hats better (although I wish they stay with embroidered logos on heat-transferred ones).

One thing that bugs me on the new pictures is that high crown. Doesn’t look like these hats will have the same fit as the feather lights or the 86

Back in 2015, during the Roland Garros QF press conference, Rafa wore a high-crown version. Personally, I hope this is not it (there are no eyelets in the front panels in the renders above; then again, I have no idea how much they reflect the real thing).

Yeah I’m not sure which model that is but it looks goofy. The big question is which model the new one is. I have a feeling it might be one of the legacy/classic99 fits seeing as they use that for a lot of the team sports merch. No big deal but afaik those have a layer of interfacing behind the front 2 panels which gives it that tall crown look.

I like the higher profile hat design. Obviously not the full on rapper hip hop style. But fits my head shape better.

Also really happy they are going back to the polyester plasticky cloth. Those dry really quickly after each play. I can do a quick soap rinse and air dry it a few times before having to put it into the washer.

Per TT Staff, no new Rafa cap is slated to appear in the Spring 23 collection :(

Come the European clay-court swing next April, it will have been exactly 1 year without any new colorway (I don't count the recently released HO22 Volt/(Off noir) [850666-703] as it is basically the same as FA22 Volt/(Black) [850666-702] released just 2 years ago). It is even worse for Europe as no new hat has been released here since HO21 Black/(Metallic silver) [850666-714].

That's mighty disappointing.

This is only a guess but are you privy to the colors of Rafa's gear from the incoming SP23 collection? If you are, I am sure you will notice they are regurgitated variations from what we already saw (even worse, relatively recently). E.g. there are Football grey shorts (most likely for IW/Miami). And there already was a Football grey/(Thunder grey) Rafa cap not that long ago (SP21 to be exact; also in time for IW/Miami that year). No new cap model and ever the same colors mean that Nike is basically eating its own tail.
Furthermore, Rafa's insistence on wearing the old Featherlight model has got to hurt the sales if what we find in retail doesn't match what our player wears. Personally, I am frustrated and I pretty much buy every cap there is. But every time I see Rafa in a new Featherlight colorway I am unlikely to ever get my hands on, my heart bleeds and my exasperation with the brand further increases.

Crazy thing is they were pumping out hat colorways for Osaka too…

This is my collection shot a little over a month ago [Jun 15, 2021]. Since then it has grown by the following 3:
  • HO11: White/Black/(Total orange) [398224-110]
  • SP21: Football grey/(Thunder blue) [850666-085]
  • SU21: Elemental pink/(Wild berry) [850666-698]

Bless you amazing !! Wow

Thank you :D

At the moment of writing, the count stands at 122 so I added only 11 unique hats in the past 18 months (I swear Uniqlo releases more caps for (semi-)retired Roger than Nike does for Rafa in the twilight of his illustrious career).

Acc. to my records (available/maintained on the first few posts of this thread), there have been 132 Rafa adult hats released by Nike so far. This number does not include Rafa-exclusive Featerlights which are almost impossible to get (even though I still managed to get 8 by blind luck a few years back). So, 122 (overall) - 8 (Rafa custom Featherlights) = 114. This would mean I am still missing 19 so I still have a way to go (if you factor in another 25+ custom Featherlights, the distance gets even longer but... I don't want to depress myself seeing as it is unlikely I will get a chance to obtain them). But the pickings get ever more slimmer and expensive by the minute, and I refuse to pay tens or hundreds of dollars for dirty and tainted Rafa Bull Logo 2.0 caps.

I have an idea for a neat short video update to the picture above. I might do it soon.

Inspired by an excellent article about an RF cap collector from Madrid/Spain at https://www.puntodebreak.com/2022/10/21/perder-cabeza-federer, I decided to chart my Rafa cap collection over time:

A few titbits:
  • The collection currently counts 122 unique (either model and/or color) caps (I also have a number of spares but these are not included)
  • My first Rafa cap was Black/Black/(White) Rafa Bull Logo [398224-010] bought on Aug 30, 2014 (almost 5 years since the very first Nike official release in Oct '09)
  • The last cap to expand the collection is the recently released Volt/(Off noir) [850666-703] on Sep 27, 2022
  • I have only made a decision to start collecting Rafa caps after a year from the very first purchase. Initially, I just wanted 2 hats in staple black and white. Later, I decided to own a matching hat to every Rafa kit I had. Starting with 2017, I decided to buy all new Heritage86 caps as they were being released. Finally, in April 2023, I have become a completist in the true sense of the word (I still try to stay within reason when it comes to exorbitant pricing), and a BNWT fetishist, too.
  • the largest amount of caps I bought within a month was 5 (4 separate occasions)

OK, inspired by @innoVAShaun's posts earlier in this thread, let's try to incrementally make a comprehensive list of Rafa-exclusive Featherlight hats.

As far as I know, the divide started at US Open 2016 and continues until now. We will see if the new model slated for 2023 will close it back again (which would be a welcome change).

The public, at least in Europe, got Blue spark/Black[underbill]/Blue spark[trim]/(Blue spark) [715146-447]:

while Rafa wore Blue spark/Black[underbill]/Black[trim]/(Total orange) [802130-448]:

As far as I can tell - I happen to own both hats - they only differ in the following 3 things:
  • the color of the heat-transferred logo on the front: Total orange (Rafa) vs Blue spark (retail)
  • the color of the embroidered Nike and Rafa logos: Total orange (Rafa) vs Blue spark (retail)
  • the color of the trim around the hat: Black (Rafa) vs Blue spark (retail)
Other than the above, these are the exact same 3rd generation Rafa hats [style:715146].

Rafa cap collectors rejoice!

Following an extended drought of more than a year (excl. Volt/(Off noir) from the HO22 collection), 2 new Rafa hats are slated for Summer '23: (some kind of) Blue (#481) and (some kind of) Purple (#551).

Still Heritage86 (850666) though (not the new model mentioned a few posts above).

miko

A new Rafa-exclusive Featherlight cap to match his latest accessories: White/Black[underbill]/White[trim]/White[panels]/(Baltic blue). We, unfortunately, get nothing this Spring. Not even the Heritage 86 counterpart. Not a single Heritage 86 cap at all.

@miko - if you do end up getting time to video the update to your collection, can you please tag the people in this thread so we can have a look?

Absolutely love the attention to detail you have provided on your collection.

The following curio Rafa cap has appeared recently on the largest bidding website.

@innoVAShaun Do you recognize the model of the hat? It looks like a youth hat to me (e.g. single middle panel).

miko

Semi-Pro
Looks like a youth hat as it's the older style Featherlight, old style pull tab, and centered bull logo.

Thank you, @innoVAShaun. Yes, it also looks "real vintage" to me. And centered bull logo would certainly suggest a youth cap.

I am also curious about Nike Sport Wear on the inside of the hat as opposed to a dedicated tennis line. Could it be a custom cap where someone simply embroidered the bull logo on the front?

I wrote to the guy asking if:
  1. he is a first-hand owner,
  2. he remembers where he got it from, and
  3. it is an adult or youth hat.
He kindly responded: "I got it 2nd hand but it was brand new (or essentially brand new) it is an adult hat"

I won't include it on the master list at the top of this thread but leave it here as a curio item.

One of the 3 new Rafa hats slated for the coming summer. Green abyss/(White) [850666-301]. Still the old Heritage86 design. It appears (see this post), it will be the only SU23 colorway available in the US.

As for the remaining two, these are most likely European-only releases:

Vivid purple/(White) [850666-551]

Game royal/(White) [850666-481]

If anyone has these yet can you comment s/m vs m/l sizing compared to the old versions

I bought 2 sizes: M/L and L/XL. There is a difference of about 0.5-1.0 cm as measured from the top until the end of the trim along one of the seams of the panels

In my tests, M/L is the closest to the 3rd gen Rafa Featherlight Hat which was sold from Summer '15 through 2016.

Thank you. With the embroidered logos these should be able to take a beating and be washer safe (y)(y)
