A look back at Federer-Andreev Us Open 2008

It's the first time I watched some highlights of this match in many years and man, Fed really struggled to win this one.I think that Fed's low confidence after his campaign that year, especially after that tough loss at Wimbledon, had something to do with how he performed in the early stages at the US Open, even though Andreev played better than expected.

I remember good ol' Igor Anbaev

If I am not wrong, which I think I am, I also remember watching through Federer-Andreev at AO,even that match was tough. The match was on YouTube.

I don't remember the year and nor O am sure if it was actually Andreev. It was before his racquet change.

Brb checking their h2h

I am right , they did play at AO and it was in 2010

Andreev's FH

Does anyone else think he looks like Anderson on the court.

I now recalled why I remembered Andreev ,he supposedly had as heavy a FH as Rafael.

USO 08 was one of Fed's scrappiest GS win. He was ordinary for most of the torunament, but lifted his game in the SF-F

not really.
Fed put on a masterclass vs Stepanek in 3R. Andreev match was the only one where Fed struggled.

Fed was really pissed with how things went for him in that period and he wanted to win badly. He really hit that FH with "anger" in the SF + F.

Man, even if 2008 was Fed's worst prime season, that racquet head acceleration and that FH were still top notch and people still think he played better tennis when he was older. His FH was a shadow of what it was even in 2008.
Pretty amazing that without one of his biggest weapons at full force he has managed to grab slams and stay in the picture for so long. I think it says a lot about him, but what does it say about everyone else outside of Nadal and Djoker?

2008 was his mono year. Destroyed by Rafa at RG, lost the Wimbledon final of course and won only 4 events all year. He also lost early at both Rogers Cup and Cincy. The highlight of the '08 USO for him before lifting the trophy has to be this--

Andreev was like a right handed Nadal, kind of proof to the folk who think he'd have been useless if he didn't started playing with his left.

That's like saying Verdasco is Nadal. The guy's much more than a forehand, pay some respect.
Who's being disrespectful? To point out that he's a topspin loving, Babolat using, Federer nightmare giving (he gave him trouble every single time they played, this is just the most famous example) player whose game renders him predisposed to succeed primarily (and in his case almost exclusively) on clay courts is not disrespect. It's a fact.

This match and the Agassi 04 match is proof Federer even on the fast surfaces in prime years was not unbeatable.

With facts like those, who needs fiction
