a low power and SOFT string

ps60

Professional
anyone knows a string that has low power but
a soft feel. (and poly is definitely stiff for me)

i mean the string can absorb the ball's impact, min. shocks but not bouncing the ball back like a rocket.

Thanks

don't know what you're talking about. poly is the only one that fits that description. try using a poly w/ synthetic gut for a cheap, "soft" string combo

You could try Head RIP Control or Perfect Control, Yonex 850 Pro, ISO-Speed Professional. Polys are not soft compared to those strings. I also find Wilson Sensation to be pretty good in this regard at the right tension, however it is not durable at all.

I second the Pro Supex Premier Ace. It's a co-poly, but you will be surprise at it's softness. The power is "accessible", but not anywhere near Topspin Cyberflash in terms of being like a rocket launcher. I have two identical rackets, one strung with Premier Ace and the other with Weisscannon Silverstring. Depending on the opponents or my rhythm of the day; when I need power, I pull out the Silverstring, and for control, I pull out Premier Ace. BTW, I hybrid the co-polys in main and Gosen OG Micro in cross.

I'd try Tecnifibre's Multifeel, the multifilament, out. It even has a single monofilament in the center to hold tension and enhance durability, much like a standard solid-core, single wrap synthetic gut.

Poly strings are notoriously stiff, and he's asking for a soft string.

Just get gut and string it higher in the tension range. Or perhaps a quality synthetic.

Please do yourself a favor and dont use head perfect control. Yes it is soft, but in a mushy kind of way. The strange thing is that this is the only string that gave me elbow pains....and i'm only 17. I have used full poly jobs and even they are tons more comfortable then head perfect control.

Have you played with ALL the new co-poly out there? If not, then you can not make a blanket statement like that.

And I suppose that you've played with every string on the market?

Is ALU Power not a co-poly? Find me the softest poly on the market. I doubt it will come near the softness of gut. I've played with ALU Power at 62 lbs and it's stiff as a brick wall.

The thread calls for softness as a prerequisite. Naming a bunch of polys HARDLY fits the bill. He even said a poly is stiff for him, so I don't see how offering up polys helps. There are other strings in the universe beside poly.

Due to there being more than one poly or co-poly manufacturer they tend to play different. Pro Supex Big Ace and Premier Ace and Topspin Poly Polar, while not as soft as gut, are very soft compared to the other co-polys and polys on the market. Many talk about Cyberflash being one of the softer co-polys, but the 3 above mentioned co-polys all play a good amount softer than Cyberflash does.

There's also a difference between co-poly's and poly in terms of softness. Co-polys play much softer than the 1st Generation polys.

And obviously the softest co-poly won't compare to gut, but on the flip side no gut will ever be as low powered as a poly or co-poly.

Maybe there should be a sticky on different types of strings (i.e. nat gut, syn gut, co-poly, multi, etc.) and rate them, in general, for their power, softness, control, spin, etc according to type. These kinds of thread asking for general opinion pops up all the time. :)

So you're saying a mushy string gave you elbow pain. I find that quite hard to believe. Of course any string strung tight enough could cause pain, so it could have happened, but then it shouldn't have felt mushy. In any case, if you didn't string that Perfect Control yourself, I would suspect that the problem was related to the stringing, or some change in your form caused by the change in feel of the string.

As far as comfort goes and arm safety goes, there just isn't any poly that can compete with a good multi. I think that some of the polys like polylon SP, can compete with synthetic gut, but there is no poly on the market that can give you the cushioned ride that something like sensation, Yonex 850, or the polyolefin ribbon strings can give. At least not yet. I suspect that in a few years there probably will be. In the interest of disclosure, I am a full time poly user who has tried every soft string out there, because I love the feel. I just haven't found one that can give great feel and last very long, so I am stuck with polys. Having said that, I do like Cyberflash, Premier Ace, and Competition quite a bit, with Competition being my current favorite and go to string.

Its a quite hard to explain the feel. Its not mushy like other multis like X-One BiPhase. Its mushy, but at the same time, it feels like theres no dampening in the string...all the vibrations gets transfered to my arm. The racquet (Instinct Tour) came pre-strung with that stuff so i just decided to use it instead of cutting it out. I will still firmly say that my other Instinct tour with SPPP does not give me any trouble.

I tried the pro supex premier ace, while it has a great feel +very comfy.I would like to know how they claim it has 30% more control than other polys. This string does not have good control at all, it gets decent spin but control no way.

I have been using cyberflash+ sppp, they both have much better control than the ace does.I have tried all of them with the same racquet + same tensions + ace does not have good control at all.

I raised it all the way up to 65 lbs. tension + still not good control, the same racquet with cyberflash or sppp at even close to that tension+ it has great control with more spin.So if you want a nice soft feel the ace will give you that, but dont look for control with it.

wilson reaction is a multi, but a stiff one in terms of multis. still a lot softer than luxilon bb original or kirschbaum competition. it is quite low powered too as compared to nxt tour, sensation or other multis in the market. maybe you should give that a try.

Softest poly I've hit with is Kirschbaum Competition. I've heard it retains tension very well also, though I haven't logged enough time with it to testify.

As for the OP's request, I suggest a hybrid gut/co-poly, preferably a softer co-poly. This is probably the best compromise of softness and power you'll find.

A bit off topic from the OP. But just replying...

It's quite strange that your experience is so different. I'm on my testing phase of several co-poly's as main right now, use the same cross (gosen micro), and very similar tension for main and cross on two identical rackets. I've already played with sppp, cyberflash, pro supex big ace, silverstring, and pro supex premier ace by far has the least amount of power and the most control. It was night and day difference. I felt like I could hit all out and not afraid of the ball sailing. I was all "wow, this is nice!"

Still more co-poly's to try:
Weiscannon Matchpower and Scorpion
Pro Supex Poly Power Soft
Gosen Polylon SP
Luxilon BB Alu Power

Believe me rorschack i was hoping this would be the case, i wanted this string to be a control string.I am using all poly string job, you say you are using gosen micro as a x's.That string to me is really dead, so it would really help with the control.

I am using a rds002 tour ul racquet, this stick is pretty easy to have to much power with.Yesterday i put premier ace in at 65 lbs on the mains + x's + it still had to much power. The day before i used it at 60 lbs + it was of course even worse.

Today i hit with one racquet with sppp 1.18 at 65 lbs + one racquet with cyberflash 17g. at 65 lbs+ both played great. Both had plenty of control, i was free to swing out with no problems.

That is actually tighter than i would like to string at, so i am looking for a poly with control at a lower tension.I have used cyberflash at 62 lbs.+ it still had great control.

When i get outside that is probably what i will use, you can get away with a little more power set up outside compared to inside.I also want to try kirschbaum competition, i have heard it has good control.

tlm, maybe you should try the Gosen Micro for cross after all to tame the power, in your case. Or try to hybrid some stiffer co-poly's with syn gut cross in order to benefit from more control and soft string bed.

Geez, those are pretty high tension you use for co-poly's. Yes, it would be ideal to find a low powered co-poly that is soft. Premier ace/gosen micro seems to be the ticket for me right now on the Flexpoint Radical tour (56m/59c). However, the Weisscannon MatchPower is supposed to be very similar, if not better than the Premier Ace. So I will give that a go next.

Thanks

Dunlop Max Comfort.
It's supposed to be soft multi-filament but very very lower powered.

Or Head Rip Control as Kevo suggested.

You want to find a string that is smooth on initial contact but "firm" at the later
stage of impact.

Sadly, asking for a string that is soft and low power is like asking for a racquet that is high power on the serve and low power on the groundies. It doesn't exist.

Dunlop Max Comfort not only isn't very comfortable, it has known durability issues. Do a board search here before considering this one.

not necessarily. you can have a soft string with high tension.

back to the OP, wilson reaction is soft string. its really crisp and it didn't have much pop. but try Head FXP, like meh said, its in your category.

It sounds like you want a gut/poly hybrid. This fits the bill perfectly.

Isn't that the whole point of a hybrid? To offer characteristics of both strings?

Seems like a no-brainer. soft and low powered--hybrid. Whichever trait you want more, put that string in the mains.

i asked the Q and went to sleep, wake up to find there is quite some inputs here

i should have given more info about what i've used. I 've tried PSGD, NXT/PSGD, NXT/Ultra tour(Enduro Tour), Ultra tour/NXT, ET/PSGD....
No $$$ for Nat Gut.

yeap the closest set up for my taste is NXT/UT(ET), but the feel could still be stiff due to the poly cross. Poly mains is out of the Q, caused me an inner elbow problem (serving).

I love NXT after break in, but it's too powerful and it loose tension Allllll the way, can't stop it at the right tension :-(

Enduro Tour IMO is quite soft poly. But it's not too crisp. So i guess i better steer away from Poly.

NXT/PSGD gave me the most comfortable feel, but it become too too much power after some time, and though it sounds strange, the NXT was cut through by PSGD faster than in the NXT/poly setting (which in one time can last 10 months:grin: ).

Maybe the setting i want is in the forbidden area, NG. and i can only keep on searching in the Multi/SG,poly hybrid world.

Thanks for all the inputs, ideas...
in which the HEAD FXP, RIP control, Yonex 850 caught my attention most.

i really wonder if Yonex 850 is much better than PSGD or if it is a multi, better compared to NXT ?

Yonex 850 is one of the firmer and less expensive multis--such as the Multifeel I mention above, though Multifeel has a muted, still soft, feel--which typically hold tension a bit better than the premium ones, yet are somewhat less comfortable too. Others like the above include Tecnifibre's TrC, Babolat's Syntronic Brio, Prince's new Synthetic Gut Multifilament and Wilson's Reaction. The string sets all sell for about $10, and Multifeel is available in a reel. This seems like a category that could fit what you want.

I'm not sure if you ever played with Max Comfort.
Or perhaps the word "comfortable" is very subjective.

You are NOT going to get super comfortable string that is low powered.
Max Comfort has ok comfort for a low powered string.

It's basically "firm" string not exactly "stiff".

This means it's soft at the beginning of elongation span but
firms at the later stage of impact.

That's right; it's a difficult subject. OTOH, Dunlop strings typically are below standard, and Max Comfort's string technology is quite dated now. There really is a point to buying contemporary stuff, even though staying power normally counts for something in the string world (see for it Prince's Original Synthetic Gut and Babolat's Fibertour too) . Max Comfort's always been priced below the multifilament market, even now, and now it's even often on "sale". In fact, as strings go, it's about on the level of E-Matrix; why not recommend that one, too.. And as I said, though you personalize thinking others do, and are prone to, do the board search on it I recommend above.

Dunlop Max Comfort is totally different from E-Matrix and much more
durable from my own experiences. I don't think you've played with Max Comfort.
It's somewhat mushy but surprisingly low powered.

I hardly recommend anything based on what others say.
I only offer things from my own experiences.

I don't trust the stringing in a prestrung frame. I can't imagine that they spend the appropriate amount of time to string those frames properly. I've heard some people claim that they pull more than one string at a time even on crosses. The stringing may have been the issue.

What you want to do is blot out opinions others have that disagree with yours, and prevent people browsing and participating in these forums from seeing that they do. While there have been cases of people speaking the way you say, without foundation, they are far too few to make your case for you. You're just making some kind of passionate reply. Better to assume some posters herein might know more than you say, rather than less; it's a safer bet. And grow up a little while you're at it.

I was gonna recommend the same strings!

u can't be serious !

the one time i hit with a pro-hurricane, on a Volkl C8-pro. i thought i was hitting with a solid metal stick, with no stringbed, just metal plate.

it was horrifying. i just hit it a few times, and gave it back to my friend.

that one strung at 58/Xcel 56lb.
