Can't claim that one, no.
Horrible match. Ferrer should have won that in 3 comfortable sets.
60 UE's for Murray
For a guy 6'3" I would expect murray to have a bigger/more effective serve...even with these conditions..being as slow as they are.
Ferrer gets through a tough opponent and will have his shot against Nadal in the semis. I'm looking forward to it.
Of course he is. Compare their career achievements on clay and they say it all.
Oh dear, Murray. Pushing's not good enough...
Gratz to Ferrer; Glad to see him advancing as deep as he has into GS's
Classic Ferrer/Nadal clay match coming up!
In all seriousness, good to finally see Ferrer reach a RG semi.
Many congrats to Daveed on his first RG semi.
Murray stunk the place out at times - off to the green stuff.
Kudos to Ferrer for reaching his first FO SF, to be honest I expected more from Murray today (he was brilliant in parts of his match against Gasquet the other day) but considering clay is his worst surface, QF is a good result.
That's the match.
Now to beat Nadal, which he will do.
I am hoping Ferrer can upset Mr. Nadal
Eurosport getting a wee bit excited.
Hope your right^
Yeah good on him. I like Murray, but have always rooted for David too in alot of matches.
I sure hope so.
Jake - congrats on your boy's win - hope he pulls it off in the semis. I can't see it for a minute, but hope springs eternal.
Vamos Ferrer, he deserved an RG SF.
Typical of Murray going to injured mode in the last game.
I give Murray a real shot at Wimbledon. He isn't doing as well as ranks 1-3 but I'm always optimistic for the Muzza when he plays on the green stuff.
Good point. If Ferrer can grind it out and drag it into the 4th or 5th set he might (fingers crossed) be able to pull it off...
Nadal/Ferrer..LOL.. I hope they play second because if they go first, they'll take their own sweet time even for what will probably be a straight set affair.
ferrer is not gonna beat nadal on clay. no way jose
Ferrer can hang with Nadal, but Rafa's not going to play a loose service game, for instance, after working so hard to break back in the way that Murray did after 3-all in the third. One does not enjoy those types of margins against Rafa. Also, Rafa probably will hit far fewer balls back to the middle of the court than Murray just did.
If Murray can just win his first major, I believe many more will come. I hope he starts at Wimbledon.
I just can't see it. Ferrer has never beaten Nadal on clay, I think? He's had MANY tries and many damaging losses at the end of sets. He HAS however, beaten Nadal two times in Slam events: at the 2007 US Open, and at the 2011 A Open.
I think I've just had a seizure while reading ernestsgulbisfan#1 post.
how about no? :-|
Yup, what a turd.
If Ferrer can turn it into a pushing/grinding affair, coupled with the news that Nadal's knee is being iced, who knows what's possible? Ferrer gave Nadal hell in Barcelona and a great tough set in Rome. Ferrer going into the SF of RG will be more inspired than ever before. I think this could be a very good match.
Good for Ferrer but Nadal will crush him in 3.
I really don't think Murray has the game to win 'many Majors'. He lacks consistent weaponry and he does way too much running in matches generally. This isn't to say he can't win them, though. I believe he can win 1 - 3.
This. Vamos Ferrer!
"Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row." I see your point. I hope Ferrer has short-term memory and can put those losses behind him. I am definitely "want" ferrer to win, more than I "think" he can win.
It would be nice for Ferrer to grab one major before he retires...
I think Ferrer vs Djokovic in the RG would be 55:45 in Nole's favour; virtually even. I'm being entirely serious as well. I give Ferrer very little chance if he had to play Federer in the final, but if Ferrer won that match then I would take it on the chin, and be genuinely very very pleased for the guy.
In short, Ferrer's best chance at winning RG comes with Nole beating Federer in the semis.
Ferrer has beaten Nadal on clay once... the very first time they played each other back in 2004 at Stuttgart. He won 6-3, 6-7 (3), 7-5.
Well done to Da veed, fully deserved.
Well, it's way back in 2004, but at least it's something.
Problem is with tennis being a sport of consistency, a 55:45 difference is huge. If Djokovic wins 55 out of every 100 points, there is little chance Ferrer will win.
I would agree with those points. He matches up much better against Novak. If he can get past Nadal I think Novak will be in the finals waiting for him.
Yeh, but that isn't how I was looking at it at all. I merely think Ferrer's chances of winning that match would be about 45%, ergo, would win 45 out of 100 matches if the scenario were to be played out so many times. This doesn't translate in terms of points won, because 55:45 in terms of points won probably equals odds of about 95% or 5% of victory.
Good for Ferru, getting on Murray's quarter is probably his only chance at a SF, and he took it.
On paper, on clay against Nadal the most likely result is a tough straight sets match, but let's hope for something better.
This was a weird match, schizo tennis at its best. Ah, well.
Actually once in 2004, but that doesn't matter anyway.
Way to go, Jake !
You aren't exactly alone, bro.
