A neglected exercise.

I've played recreational tennis every weekend for 20 years. I never served normally, overhand. I serve underhand, save energy. Recently I learned to serve overhand, normally. I played for 1 hour. After 1 hour, my frame practically collapsed. I was hunching back home. My back hurts, my lower back hurts. I was in bed for a day before I can get vertical.

Then I remembered something, something I overlooked in my childhood. Once, a long time ago, I looked at an Arnold Schwarzenegger exercise book in the library. As a child, you have a childish mind, and you are impressed with weights and stuff. I saw an exercise that uses a broomstick. I never paid attention to it. A broomstick didn't seem impressive. I never incorporated that exercise in my "regimen".

That exercise is so vital for tennis, especially the serve, for the back muscles. Here it is.

From time: 48:10 - 50:25

Try not to giggle, this is a seriously useful exercise.

Regardless of the exercise, the real reason your back hurt so much is because your body (muscles, nerves, spine and all) was simply not used to serving overhead.
