Would you like to see him face Djokovic at Wimbledon or would you rather he avoided him completely?

Obviously grass is Murray's best surface and he's beaten Djokovic both times they've played without even dropping a set so it stands to reason that this will be his best opportunity at turning the H2H around. However, Djokovic has won their last 8 matches including 4 so far this year so I would imagine this could affect Andy mentally should they meet in the SF/F and put doubts in his mind.

Honest answers please. Have at it and have fun.

Didn't the legend of wrestling Ric Flair say to be the man you've got to beat the man?

Djokovic is the man, I want Murray to face him...at the same time I can't bare watching Murray fold like a cheap suit whenever the heat is on vs Djokovic.

With all that said bud, I voted for Murray to avoid LOL.

Not a Murray fan, but I like him. Anyway, I think the obvious answer has to be yes. Because for Murray to face Djokovic, it'd have to be the semifinal or final. I don't see why any Murray fan would turn that offer down :D

Sure. I'd very much like for Djokovic to get rekt real bad. Straights again.

Better make it the semi, though, so we can get a different final.

Yes, I want to see a Murray vs Djokovic match at Wimbledon. Murray is getting closer to beating Djokovic in a slam again and Murray took Djokovic to five sets at the FO on clay which is Murray's worst surface. I think he may be able to beat Djokovic on the Wimbledon grass where Murray feels more confident and Djokovic has never defeated Murray on grass.

Bring it on!

I would've thought you'd want to see Novak go out as early as possible ccO?

In results section there is thread for discussion of Wimbledon draw and Federer's chances based on it. Check out last comment in that. A Murray fan says he would prefer Federer in Murray's side of the draw instead of Djokovic. That honestly expressed opinion sums up feelings of Murray fans for me.

A fully resounding - YES

Murray needs to turn around this h2h deficit vs Djokovic. The last time he won vs Djokovic was pre-back surgery in the Wimbledon 2013 final.

2014 their rivalry was plagued by Murray physically.
2015 their rivalry is played by Murray mentally.

If Murray is going to get over the mental hurdle, he needs to be inspired and the only place that will happen is on the fully partisan Wimbledon centre court where Murray is touching distance of creating history (Again)

Djokovic is 0/5 vs Murray sets played on grass. He hates the crowd supporting again him. Whereas Murray feeds off that energy and loves when the stakes are high.

Wimbledon 2015 SF - Murray def. Djokovic in 4 sets.

I agree that Djokovic hates crowds supporting his opponent but it only tends to happen when he doesn't expect it, that's what really aggravates him. Obviously he'll be fully aware going into a possible Murray encounter that the crowd will be completely on Andy's side so I shouldn't think it will bother him as much.

Maybe cc0509 is being realistic with their hopes? To hope for Djokovic to fall before the semifinal would be unrealistic, given his recent history.
Ah, I see what you mean. However, ccO very much dislikes Djokovic so let's just say he won't be exactly crying himself to sleep if Novak goes out early.

h2h matters not to me. I want Murray to win another Wimbledon. If he doesn't beat Novak to do it it's no skin off my back, and if they meet at this Wimbledon, at least as of now, I'd favor muzza

but h2h matters in their mental match-up. So if Muzz is to beat Djoko at the US, for example, it would help if he got the 2-year monkey off his back first. No better place to do that than Wimbledon.

Not sure what that has to do with my question T18S. :-?
I think the point the poster was trying to make was that Djoker is unlikely to got out early so therefore if they both make their seedings their are going to have to face one another Djoker is very consistent in slams an Murray is not bad either, so I suspect avoiding one probably won't happen..but you never know, I would prefer they met in the final if it occurs.

But it's not like Murray has never beaten Djokovic, he has actually done it on the big stage this is not the same as a player who has never beaten another player in his life. I agree that wimbledon is Murray's best chance.

I know. But 8-0 weighs on both of their minds next time they meet. But if it's at Wimbledon, the 2013-final and the 5-0 set record will weigh as well.
That's what I meant.
I.e. in order to break the streak and become something akin to Djoko's equal again, Murray needs a win on which he can build future wins. No better place for than the Wimbledon's grass imo

Yep, I think we are basically agreeing with each other on this point:)

Risk/reward situation...another loss would be devastating but a win would put a lot of wind in the sails.

Gotta get rid of the demons inside the cranium, so yeah. Hope for it.

Although I'm not a "Murray Fan" I'm in two minds about this.

1.) I feel Murray should win based purely on his ability and effort he puts in, therefore I feel he should "conquer the dragon" Djokovic to at least achieve this and give a level of authenticity to his victory as Djokovic is "the man to beat" as he always is

2.) I fear that Murray has a complete mental block against Djokovic and will fold when the chips are down (and other excessive poker metaphors)

I would prefer this to happen in a semi-final though just to avoid adding to Djokovic's finals losses tally

The H2H deficit with Djokovic is not important. Murray's only loss to Djokovic on the faster surfaces, in his career, was at the U.S. Open last year, which was an abysmal year for Murray returning from back surgery and losing Lendl as his coach.

So, he can just easily look at that and draw confidence instead of dwelling on 8 straight losses and doing the opposite. I'm sure he, and Novak, are well aware of the difference in their matchup depending on the surface.

Surely he knew and expected that at the Olympics? And even if he didn't, he would have used that partisan experience at the following year at Wimbledon?

I don't know..

I think i would like Murray to play vs Djokovic again just because he is 2-0 vs Novak in grass. And if they meet, i hope they play in the final again.

Djokovic beat Murray 4 times on faster surfaces:

2006 Madrid
2012 Shanghai
2014 US Open
2014 Beijing

But yes, I agree with your general point.

I wanna see him play Djokovic.

He's going to have to anyway if he wants to win Wimbledon.

Murray seems a totally different player on grass, compared to HC and Clay where he got handed over by Novak repeatedly.

I think Novak should revisit his playing schedule given he has crossed 28 now. I think he should play Queens / Halle and may be cut down Beijing. It really makes no sense playing there when he is sitting on a 4000 point lead.

You're either joking or anti-jinxing  I can't tell which.
nothing new to see here, Djoko2011 does this for pretty much every tournament - especially the slams, but the Masters too, hence the moniker 'Clarky' - a famous anti-jinx poster, never believing in his favorite.

Would love them to meet, hopefully in the final.

They've been the two best players this year, i'd back Murray to get revenge for the AO final and RG semi.

2012 Shanghai really was a final Murray should have won. He dominated play right up to holding 5 match points, none of which he was able to convert. After that, his level dropped. Worst choke I have ever seen from him!

Yes. D2011 has the same MO every time. He gets sensitive and offended if a poster criticizes Djokovic's tennis abilities in any way but then before EVERY big tournament he tells us Djokovic will be defeated by some other player. You could set your watch to it. :)
