I played doubles last weekend with a guy who opened a can of Babolat balls. I said: hey those are seldom seen where did you get them. He said he had to order them online. I asked if there was anything special about Babolat balls. He said no, he just gets them because they are rare and don't get mixed up with other people's balls.

That is the end of the story.

Does anyone here consciously buy Babolat balls?

There's a Babolat rep in our area, so Babolat is probably the biggest brand around (I don't get it, but whatever). Thus, a number of places sell Babolat balls only. We see them all the time...I guess is what I'm saying.

That said, I'm indifferent to them. The only balls I absolutely hate are regular duty US Opens. Those things are like river rocks after the warmup.

Noticed players using Penn ATP balls, Dunlop Grand Prix balls, even Wlson Tour Clay Green balls (which IMHO the best) just to avoid mixing in with the standard balls. Tough to get all four players to approve these balls.

Love the Penn Atp balls. used to be able to buy them in a 4 pack along with 3 cans of heavy duty Penn. I don't see this promo on shelves anymore.

I carry a large black marker which is used to identify my tennis balls. A BIG DOT or TWO right after or before the number. Always get my tennis balls back except when one goes over the fence on an overhead. :D

The Babolat Roland Garros balls are decent.

    Their economy offering is terrible.

Babolat makes a good clay ball. I tend to use them or Wilson Tour Green Clay balls.

For Hardcourts I use Propenn Marathon or Penn ATP.

I get the ones with a big dot on them. Really good for controlling pace and no one ever takes them.

How in the world do you play tennis with a ball made out of clay? They just splat on the ground and lie there. :)

I get lots of sets from the clay balls since the fuzz doesn't tend to wear out as quickly as HC balls. I use a compression container to store them and basically toss them when the label has worn off. I would suspect I get more use out of the Babaolats than the Wilson's but the Wilson's are also a bit cheaper so it evens out.

Balls should have a RFID chip embedded in them to be read by a cell phone for identification.

Why do tennis balls go flat?
Also, it is due to use or age?

Slow leakage through the cover material. Atmospheric pressure is 14 psi, and ball is pressurized to 27 psi, so air wants to get out.

Age will cause it, especially when out of the pressurized can (which is at 14 psi).

Use will accelerate it obviously due to constant deformation causing more air to escape.
