Looks like everyone is getting sidetracked with the boring and unimportant questions like "who is the GOAT?"... it's time for the greatest minds on TTW to start looking at and answering the REAL questions. Now let's get down to it, whom do you believe to be the better player.
Fognini.
or Monfils.
Monfils:
- Career Win/loss record of 471-266 (63.90%)
- 8 career titles incl.
- 2 ATP 500's
- 6 ATP 250's
- Career High Ranking of #6
- 2 Slam SF's + 8 Slam QF's

Fognini:
- Career Win/loss record of 353-300 (54.06%)
- 9 career titles incl.
- 1 Masters 1000
- 1 ATP 500
- 7 ATP 250's
- Career High Ranking of #9
- 1 Slam QF (lol)

H2H: (didn't know how to get image to work here sorry)

Misc:
- Both are born within 1 year of each other
- Both are mental headcases who arguably under-achieved

Fognini is a better ballstriker, returner better mover (on clay)
Monfils is a better athletic player, and way better at net & service skills

For me, ballstriking is more important so I'll go for Fabio (also because he happens to be crush of my good friend @BeatlesFan ;)

Fabio:
- Beat prime Nadal on clay (considered tennis' ultimate challenge)
- Beat Nadal in GS after being down 2:0 in sets
- Humiliated #1 seeded MuryGOAT in Rome 2017

If nadal could hold his nerves, fognini could've never beaten him except for MC19 maybe..
Why he loses his focus against fog is out of my understanding..
MC 2019 was probably the worst match Nadal played on clay in 2005-2019. Fognini himself was an unforced errors machine in the first set, but Nadal was sooooooooooooooo bad that it was impossible to lose this set. Then in the second set Fognini just got the confidence and finished his non existent opponent without problems.

No sir,
It's on the list, but it's not the worst match bull has played on clay in 2005-2019...
Not even top3

Lol, then give me 3 worse matches he played on clay in that period. I'm waiting. Going to be really interesting.
2015 madrid final vs Murray (pigeon)
2015 rome quarters vs Wawrinka (piegon)
2014 madrid final vs nishikori (won though)
2008 rome 2r vs ferrero (what da fak, bullsheet Spaniard)

You cannot be serious. From that list only 2014 and 2015 Madrid finals are up there with MC 2019, but even they were much better matches. Also, both Nishikori and Murray played MUCH better than Fognini did in MC 2019. (though Nadal obviously helped them doing that)

I'm serious..
Atleast fognini can vaporize his Strokes and has much better ballstriking (helpful on clay), much better mover too...
And did you even watch 2015 madrid and 2008 rome in particular? Nadal looked like a chicken lost in lion's zoo, which is the case with his opponents on clay usually

Yes, I did watch it. As bad as Nadal was in Madrid 2015, he didn't miss every third shot in that match. IMO MC 2019 was his worst match on clay in 2005-2019, RG 2015 1/4 final takes a second place.

I respect your opinion, however not accepting it.
Because his shots were touching lower parts of net in 2015..
Atleast he fought back in 2019 MC from 0-5 0-40 down

Yeah, when the match was already lost he finally started getting a few shots in. That was terrible to watch...
