A Visit to The Music City Challenger: Frames and Playing Styles

Oh boy, Amer Delic lost again in the 1st round, he was #2 seed in the music city challenger. what is going on with Amer ? one of the most talented players in the tour. Does he need a new racket.?

Wait a minute, even a bigger news. Scott Lipsky and David Martin have been partners for practically their entire life. but this week they are playing with different partners, what is going on there ?

Yeah, he needs to switch to a Yonex. ;) LOL

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I wonder who'll be paying the alimony to whom? ;)

Heck, it will be fun to see how the 2 opposite K90 users play out.

I stopped by after work today and saw the end of match between Miranda (rank 237 from PERU) and Oudsema (rank 335 from USA). They had to play tie break to decide the match as both were fairly even. Miranda is the shorter guy (5' 9") but he was serving some bombs. They traded aces back and forth the last couple games I watched.

The courts seemed fast to me. I played on them before and I thought they were fast because I served several aces while I was playing doubles when rained out one day. Trust me, I suck and I managed to crack more aces than usual. It is fast compared to the outside Vandy courts. May be things are just faster indoors. Anyway, there were aces left and right when these guys played. Also, groundstrokes were pretty fast as well as they both hit fairly flat. I don't know, tired? Going for the kill?

The short guy ended up winning, 7-6 in the 3rd set. Isner is playing tomorrow night so I will probably see how fast he serves.

I can't wait to see/read your thoughts on his serve. It goes straight down, then straight up. Isner does not know how to throw a curve or change-up. Just the high-heat!

McClune beat Zack. Well, that's a good win for him (and maybe not such a good loss for Zack, even if it was 3 sets).

Can you guys take any videos of the tourny? I think the rest of us are pretty jelous, and it might smooth things over between us.

I went to the tournament for about 40 minutes this afternoon.

Jesse Levine beat Brian Wilson this afternoon 7-6, 6-3. Wilson was the higher ranked player but got distracted after "bad calls" in the tiebreak and was quite vocal about it.

I also saw the end of the McClune-Ram match and I thought McClune has potential and he striked the ball well. It will be interesting to see how far he goes in the tournament.

On a side note, most of the seeded players lost. This is a true challenger event.

One last thing:

As much as I enjoy watching professionals play tennis, I enjoy much more playing tennis myself.

Brian Wilson had high hopes for the pro tour when he was playing for Illinois. Now he is turning out to be a real dud. but what is with Amer Delic, he was compared to Pete Sampras when he was playing #1 spot in Illinois. I think he still hits the ball way too flat and makes silly errors in big points. I think he should work some with brad Gilbert.

hey guys I have been everyday since saturday, talked to several players, sat in the string room for a very long time. got some good info on what the pros are "really" using. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask....... I will try to answer as many questions a possible

OK, I guesss I'll be the first to ask. So what do the pros "really" use? ;)

Interesting:

Both finalists (Kuznetsov and Levine) have 2 handed backhands - guess it shows that the 1 hander is a losing proposition among upcoming players.

Kuznetsov plays with a mid (RDS001). The only info I could get about Levine is that he uses a N6.1 - don't know if it is the 90 or the 95.

well what the pros really use is perplexing.....all i have definaetley found out is that they are using paintjobs, even the low ranking players. most are hybriding

You'd better tell that to Federer and Henin so that they can quickly switch to 2HBH's! ;) LOL

BTW, the last I checked, both Federer and Henin are overwhelmingly dominating their respective tours. And guess what? Oops, they both have 1HBH's. Can't just be a coincidence, can it? Considering how few 1HBH's there are on the women's tour?

Federer just got thrashed by a guy with a midplus

Yes, Gonzalez in now the dominant world #1 and will win 12 Grand Slams over the next 4 years and Federer will be relegated to playing in a 4.0 USTA League.

BTW, in case you didn't notice, Gonzales also hit a one-handed backhand, which BTW (in case you forgot) was the point of your post and my response to your post (Henin also uses a MP, you know).

thanks so much for ruining a match that some of us had on TIVO to watch later as i dont think most people would stay up to watch this match at 4am or whenever it was broadcast..nice work there

Amen. I thought he was referring to Nalbandian a few weeks back, then I saw the 'just now' part of the message. Now I've got think of something else to do tonight........................CC

i was hoping he was talking about nalbandian's win as well, but the word 'just' seemed to be an indicator then BP confirmed it all

maybe watch MNF then drink some YagrBombs and stay up until 4am to watch the next match????? ;)

Actually, they only showed the Roddick-Davydenko match at 4:00am EST. The Federer-Gonzales match was shown on tape delay at 1:00pm EST and just finished, and it was edited by ESPN to fit their time window.

Yeah BP was the one who ruined it
You're a funny guy. Maybe you should be on Jay Leno. You make a post at 8:23am PST revealing the results of the match BEFORE ESPN has even broadcast it, and thus, BEFORE I had even seen the match, and you accuse ME of "ruining it"? No, YOU are the one who ruined it. I waited and only posted when the broadcast of the match was just about over.

By another poster on another thread:

ATP #1's with one-hander (11) : Nastase, Necombe, McEnroe, Lendl, Edberg, Becker, Muster, Sampras, Rafter, Kuerten, and Federer

ATP #1's with two-hander (12): Conors, Borg, Wilander, Courier, Agassi, Rios, Moya, Kafelnikov, Safin, Hewitt, Ferrero, and Roddick

Of those players born post-1973 (the first year of computerized rankings), only two have one-handers (Kuerten and Federer), while seven have two-handers (Rios, Moya, Kafelnikov, Safin, Hewitt, Ferrero, and Roddick)

"Discreet"? You posted right after the match ended and the results were known and you used the word "just". If I knew who you were referring to, I'm sure many others did as well.

Don't worry guys. It's still a very exciting match to watch with incredibly high-level tennis from both men, even though I watched it already knowing the final result (thanks to sureshs). I highly recommend it. Well worth the time. :D

And especially with BP being the real culprit
It's fun to watch you squirm and wiggle when you're clearly guilty.

You ruined it for me and countless others, yet you claim innocence. You sound just like O.J. Simpson claiming you're out to "catch the real killer".

I spared you the pain of seeing your hero lose
