Because he's much taller. It's as simple as that.
Height is a talent. Being tall = being physically talented.
Zverev can pretty much just lean over the net from the baseline and spike serves straight downwards whereas Alcaraz has to serve low percentage acute angles.
Zverev can pretty much cover the baseline in one stride whereas Alcaraz has to sprint.
Zverev has a mile-long lever arm to pummel high velocity strokes with whereas Alcaraz has to work much harder to generate pace with his little T-Rex arms.
The only issue Zverev has is mental (which can be fixed) whereas Alcaraz cannot 'train' to grow taller and therefore become a more talented athlete (remember taller athletes are physically more talented by definition).

This thread is about potential, not actual achievements. Then, why is the 5'11' 21-year old already career-superior to the 27 year-old Norse God?
A player who knows how to win Slams and who probably has at least 11 good seasons left - at least half at peak level - has more potential than a near-10-year veteran unable so far to win Slams, basically unable to advance past SF, and who has perhaps 5-6 good years left, only a few at prime and precious little time left at peak. That is their comparative potential. This thread is about potential, not actual achievements.
An object with higher center of mass has greater potential energy.

I wasn’t making a prediction. Just a generalization on why Ivo Karlovic was still playing on tour into his 40s, and why John Isner reached his peak ranking in his 30s, but Hewitt didn’t.Oh, really?. Andre Agassi 5'10''; Slam finalist at 35. Ken Rosewall, 5'7" double Slam finalist at39, WCT Finals champ at37. Rod Laver, world No. 1 at 33, GS at 31. Pancho Segura, 5'6" - Pro Major Champ at 36. Jimmy Connors, 5'10" Slam champ at 31.
What did they have in common? They were former multi-time major champions. Which Alcara Gafia is and Zverev most decidedly is not.
Get back to me on Sascha and Carlitos in five years, and if you proved correct, I'll send you a case of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Scouts honor.
NahAlcaraz is overrated.
Congratulations on Thiem. This thread was probably why Zverev's ankle snapped at RG.Because he's much taller. It's as simple as that.

Yes...more potential to end up serving time in prison for his well-known reasons / behavior. Anything else...nope.A. Zverev has way more potential than Alcaraz
