Should be easy work for Fed. Goffin doesn't really have anything to hurt the big boys. He is Ferrer but worse.

But who knows what can happen.

Will the boy from Belgium reach his first QF at Grand Slam level?

I watched the match against Thiem and Goffin has really improved.

If Fed plays similar to yesterday, Goffin can take a set easily.

Goffin wearing an RF tee!! I like him ! :D

He looks so happy hugging Fed. I trust he did it only the first time they played, never again.

Goffin won't have the nerve to eliminate his biggest idol if he ever comes close to it anyway.

I'm thinking Fed in 4.

PS: Goffin is nothing like Ferrer! He goes for the shot waaay more often than the Spaniard master of defense. Plus, Ferrer has always relied on his great stamina. Goffin doesn't have it.

I agree. Also, Ferrer is much more powerfully built than Goffin. They are both fairly short for elite tennis players (although Goffin is officially listed as 5'11"), but their builds are different.

In my view, a more apt comparison for Goffin would be to Kei Nishikori.

Goffin is more like Oliver Twist:

I guess height becomes an issue when you have a bad luck and happened to get a tall ball boy haha.

Federer in 4 or 3, he should win and beat Berdych in the Quarters.

Goffin is a total fanboy. He will help Federer move on with a nice practice session.

Fed in straights, 10-11 games lost.

Slightly out of the topic, but I thought I heard Federer grunting while playing some of his shots during the Dimitrov match. Thats a first . I have been watching him play for the past 15 years. I have never ever heard him grunt while playing his shots except while doing that kick serve typically on the 2nd service ,when he used to sort of snort a bit. Is it a sign of his age really catching up now ?

He does it on the 2nd serve.

And he's been doing it for awhile. A lot of people don't notice it because they're not listening for it.

(I'm a musician; we hear everything - we're a little geeky like that.)

Fairly confident about this after Fed's Dimi test.

Federer in 3, possibly quite easily.

Goffin's in top form, but Federer nts and too much for Goffin. Fed in 4.
Goffin is in top form??? He almost lost to Thiem who is mainly a clay court specialist.
Goffin is a joke. He's gonna get triple bageled by Fed. Worst R16 match (along with Monfils/Kuznetsov). All the other R16 look like they should be competitive/exciting.

That's a bit harsh. He beat Thiem in 4 sets so it was not as if he barely scraped through 13-11 in the 5th or something! He is the first Belgian player to reach the 4th round of AO since Rochus back in 2005 so he is on top form at least by his standards. Of course, we know he's gonna get rolled over by Fed (unless Fed is really off his game for some reason) but that's no disgrace given that Fed has been currently rolling over pretty nearly everybody this past year except You-Know-Who of course (and even him on the odd occasion).

Feddy should get to the semis even with berdych waiting. We will see.
Check the results - Berdych got a few upsets in but Fed still sends the limo to pick him up. 7 of the last 10. I'm also wondering if Bautista Agut might sneak in an upset.

Back to this: Goffin can absorb pace so I won't be surprised if he grabs the 3rd set if Fed's serve drops off or he has 1 sloppy serve game. If Fed plays well it's something like 64 64 62.

:D Did you watch the match?

LOL, come on. Goffin vs Thiem has been the best match at the AO so far (for me anyway). Goffin put on a smart and composed performance. What has been your favourite match??
In terms of drama (and at times of tennis too), it would be hard to go against Verdasco/Nadal. I enjoyed Fog/Muller and I wish I had seen more of the Gulbis/Chardy one.

What time's the match start? Trying to figure out what time to set the alarm for :) AO web site says 7 p.m. for a women's match and for Fed. Does he play when that women's one ends?

Djokovic-Simon will be exciting? Good luck with that. Time to up your meds again. Tsonga-Nishikori was exciting? It was an easy win for Nishikori. The only potentially exciting R16 match is Raonic-Wawrinka. I hope it lives up the the hype. The rest of the R16 matches? Zzzzzzzzzz.

Ha ha no it really wasn't. I didn't know Tsonga was going to mug it up that bad. Simon is pretty good at taking Djoko out of his comfort zone (see last encounter at AO) so that one should be fun. (Can't be worse than Tsonga/Nishi, can it?)

I can't see how Simon will take a set off of Djokovic. When did Simon and Djokovic play at the AO before?
