I assume the Def is default but what does the (ad) mean? I know def(ns) means no show and def(inj) means injury.

I think "ad" there stands for "adult decision" in a junior tourney like when the boy is ready to play but mom doesn't want him to.

Thanks! It was a junior tourney. I know the parents of the match in question so I will ask them about it next time I run into them. However, in googling "Def(ad) tennis" there are a bunch of these things that pop up in Adult tourneys as well. Maybe it still means the same thing (ie the adults didn't want to play :).

In juniors tournaments it does mean Adult Desision (AD)
I have seen it twice (so far)- First time parent all irate about opponent's calls and pulls his player- and 2nd an instance where the player was being a total horse's behind, and parent pulled player as a "lesson" (which was funny 'cause the kid is and always will be a horse's a** in this case he was losing really bad- nice time to teach him a "lesson"). That kid is Las Vegas' problem now.

Dude this should have been obvious but I did not realize it until I came across a real tourney situation. Juniors do compete in open tourneys... and moms still have their powers... duh...!!

Parents of children under 18 have entered into a tournament reserve the right to default their child for any reason. Once they turn 18, they cant make the decision, the final decision for a default must come from the player.
