About that McEnroe commercial...

First of all, I think it's very funny, especially seeing how good of an actor JMac is. But I could swear the guy who plays the umpire in the commercial is an actor I've seen on what I think was Law & Order or The Practice as a judge. But my dad says that is the actual umpire. Can somebody clarify his name and which it is? I think he might be umpire and just became an actor afterwords but without the name, I can't find out. Regardless, still a very funny commercial.

It's Klaus Umlaut (sp?) but I believe it's the actual umpire...can check the 'former tennis player' section for more discussion about this one.

He's an actor. Seem him in quite a few things. Doubt he was ever an umpire.

It's something from american express about dispute resolving. MacEnroe then suddenly has a new lease on life, travels to some umpires house, and then declares that a ball at the 1985 U.S. Open may have indeed hit the line. He deems that the umpire is not evil after all.

McEnroe umpire

I think the actor who plays the umpire is Peter McRobbie. I recently saw the movie, 16 Blocks, in which he plays a small role as a police negotiator, and the resemblance is uncanny. When you watch the YouTube video of the actual 1985 tirade, it's pretty clear that the actor in the commercial and the real umpire are not the same.

lol, you've seen 'the actual tirade?' youtube would probably crash it they uploaded every tirade Mac had from the '85 Open.

I hope the op's dad was kidding, the idea that american express would give 2 ****s to track down an umpire from 1985 so their ad would have legitimacy is rather comical.

What I can't believe you guys like that commercial. I think it's an annoying especially because they play it at every commercial break. Amex could have made a few different versions instead of showing that one ad nauseum.

the McEnroe commercial -- who is Klaus Umlaut?

He's Peter McRobbie, a Scottish-born actor with nearly a hundred film, television, and commercial credits.

The one with Borg and McEnroe was priceless. I like when they put the rivals in commercials like that. The ones with Sampras-Agassi are also nice to see. I wish someone would make with Federer and Nadal.
