About what NTRP rating would I be?

Hello, I'm wondering what my approximate NTRP rating would be (ratings aren't really enforced or judged for tournaments here in Toronto). Also, any comments or analysis about my game (I'm the one wearing all white with black sleeves) would be highly appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

It looks like you don't do anything with your off-hand on the bh slice? You should try setting it up with your left hand on the throat of the racket.

Anyways, you're better than I am so I can't offer much advice.

I think you are 4.0 who has some 4.5 strokes, but wait for the experts to chime in
I was being serious. I think there are some experts in this topic on this board. Unless I hit your ntrp rating on the nose, I'm surprised you haven't gotten any other feedback.

Yea I agree that shot was a bit weird, I think i was trying to stretch for it.

Which strokes do you think reach the 4.5 level?

The thing with NTRP is that it's a measure of how well you play against competition, so it's not an objective measure of tennis skill.

One way to find out is to find out the NTRP rating or equivalent of the guys you beat easily, then the guys you lose to quite easily, and work your way somewhere inbetween from there.

You can have technically-garbage strokes and still be a 4.5, it's just that usually at the 4.5 level shots that don't hold up will net you a loss and you'd be bumped down.

1. I agree

2. You can have techically great strokes and be 3.0 because you started playing 3 months ago and it takes alot of time.
You can have garbage strokes and be 4.0 because you have been playing for 15 years.
I dont think you can have garbage strokes and be 4.5, at that level you will start to get punished, not saying you need great technique, but you certainly start to need some decent strokes at 4.5 at least somewhat.
At 5.0+ you need quite good technique overall, still not saying perfect, but quite good.
You can get far with garbage technique specially if your a great mover, but at some point you hit a wall.

Your opponent is not known for being generous with his line calls, is he?

All of your strokes look good, besides maybe the backhand slice. You just need to get them more consistent and get used to hitting shots out of the strike zone.

Just going off of what I see. My advice is usually garbage. The only stroke I can really give advice on is the serve, but I just recorded my own serve the other day and it looked ugly so....

LOL!
Brutal self honesty, i like it.

Sucks watching the video and getting that sinking feeling when you realize how little the reality matches up with how you thought your shots looked 'eh

I would say I have a good feel at the 4.0 and low end 4.5 area. This guy is def better than low end 4.5. Anything higher is above my paygrade.

They are good but its hard to judge level based on vid, can be good 4.0 to good 4.5 imo, but no way 5.0, thats way better, if you watch some matt lin matches or similar the shots and serves are way stronger and can end points at any time and with less errors.

Like you said, its hard to judge based on video. Definitely not a 4.0 though.

I'm surprised OP wasn't wearing black socks with white shoes, shame.

Nice hitting though! Like others have said, it's hard to tell from the video. Could be mid 4.0 to low 4.5.

Depending how everything holds up under pressure, at least a good 4.0, but might push 4.5.
Any match records?

Against the other guy in the video, on that day we went 6-4, 4-6. As for my more recent tournament match histories, the matches tended to go to three sets with me losing the first set 6-0/6-1/6-2 and then a much closer second set with 7-6/7-5/6-4 and then if i make it to the third set I usually win it 6-0/6-1/6-2

I actually wore the white and black outfit cuz i thought it'd be easier to recognize on the video. If i had black socks and white shoes i might've haha

You said Toronto, I thought it looked an awful like a bubble near me in North York ;). Good hitting though!

Ohh that makes sense. I just say Toronto cuz more people know about it than Waterloo lol. When I'm back home in Toronto I play at Tam Heather in the winter tho!

Well let's hit if you're ever looking for a hitting partner. You're most likely better than me but I'm sure I could hold my own

not particularly, why do you say this?
One of the first points I saw was an out call on this ball (around 7:05 in that first video)

Green hat guy is not using his whole potential to play tennis confirmed.

Needs glasses with -6.5 diopter to see clearly, then OP would be toast.

Ahh i see, didn't notice that aha. He's a regular hitting partner with me (we play for 2 hours at least once every week). He's usually pretty generous with line calls, if it looks iffy he'll usually call it in. Can't really blame him for calling that type of shot out cuz it's pretty hard to see when it's going fast and so close to you lol

NO. The camera angle makes the ball look in. It's definitely out. If you watch enough of tennis from this angle you will notice this is the worst camera angle for line calls.

I don't know if that's "definitely" out... The guy is backing up and on top of the ball, probably the toughest call to make correctly. Should have given the OP the benefit of the doubt

I'm willing to bet $1000 that ball was out by miles. You should know from this camera angle, objects appear closer than they actually are.

ball also skids 2-4” depending on the specific shot... so it could touch the line, roll, then leave the ground in “out” territory.

kudos to the guy in the vid for giving benefit of the doubt...

I guess I know what to expect if we ever played :p

When in doubt, call out :P

I vid 4 at 4.04 u are returninh a serve a hardly step out of the camera angle, but still u are gone for two seconds and dont get back to his shot which is close to the middle! What were u doing those two seconds? Shoe laces? Coffee? Texting?

Good question. maybe got distracted or something lol

I've never seen a bubble laid out in that fashion. All of the ones that I've seen have the peak where the net is.
