Absurd day of tennis has negative repercussions for the women's final which will now be delayed

No? If it was because of a women's match that the women's final was delayed then sure. If you can't see the difference then that's on you.

Honestly how would you feel if the men's FINAL was indefinitely pushed back because of a women's SF match? I guarantee people would be outraged. No difference here.
How would you feel having to keep tuning in and waiting for the match to finish and constantly being denied? You'd HATE it. I already read snarky comments on here when a women's match is dared scheduled before a man's on a main court. Imagine if it was before A SLAM FINAL. Oh the comments would be outrageous.
Ummmm.

WHAT?

Oh, boy!

8-)

So do you think more people care about Serena vs Kerber? Lmao.
Lmao a lot of people care about the women's final, especially when it comes to Serena. Probably why each year Serena is in the US Open final the women outrate the men in US viewership. Not saying more care about Serena but to act like it's a joke is beyond stupid.

There was more depth to Anderson vs Isner than most wta matches. Lmao at Jelena 'shut my eyes and hit as hard as I can' Ostapenko. I enjoyed the dynamics of Anderson Isner, maybe not so much the last set but by that point it was the human drama that was compelling.

The men had to wait because of the men. The women have to wait because of the men. There is a difference. Also there’s is a SF whilst this is the final.

That (and vice versa) is true on other days of the tournament as well when men and women are having matches on same day, e.g. round 4 matches on Monday. If one match extends other has to wait.

Lmao at ace ace 3 shot rally ace ace tennis. No thanks. Was very boring. The comments on the match were even more savage then what I thought too.

Omg bro, you always try to turn everything into a gendered issue.

The majority of people don’t give a flying phuck about women’s tennis. There, I said it.

I remember going on gumtree trying to get a ticket to the AO17 final, the ones that were there were $2k or so, and all sold.
The women's final people were only asking $150 or $200, and there were heaps LOL

inb4 it's the current year or whatever.

OP, post a poll here if you want to know what should be the correct decision . Once you see the results , promise you will accept the verdict
Cute. You think this forum perfectly represents the viewing public? You and I both know this forum is filled with hateful people who would rather the WTA be disbanded. In fact, some posters have ACTUALLY posted that women belong in the kitchen than on the courts, so spare me the poll idea.

So you know that this forum , as a majority, does not reallly think WTA is worthy enough to demand parity

While posting this thread is your privilege what exactly is the outcome you expect ? You really want to see 4-6 pages of opinions that WTA is just not good ?

What goes inside your head suggesting Djokodal should wait for the womans final to play? Their match got suspended yesterday, so the only reasonable thing to do is let them on court first. That's how it works and how it should work.

To generate discussion maybe? Instead of the usual crappy threads that plague this forum. Not every post on this thread has been from people saying the WTA is not good and not everyone shares the opinion that the men should play first judging from the 'likes' i've received on this thread.

What in reality is happening is it is generating more hate towards WTA

Just similar to the GOAT conversations that you start hating the player who is stopping your favorite from winning more

How about you stop acting like you care about hate towards the WTA considering you've barely shown anything more than a disdain or hatred for it?
Thanks.

Isn't the difference in cost for tickets to male and female finals an indication of how much the general public view them? If there was the same interest wouldn't it make sense for the organisers to charge the same amount.

There were plenty of long rallies, with the longest going to some 20 shots or so. Even in the fifth set, even with both guys running on fumes.

I wouldn't mind. I can't speak for anyone else. The issue with reading snarky comments here from people who do have a problem with the scheduling of women's matches or whatnot is separate.

To me the order of play simply makes more sense this way around and it has nothing to do with whom the players happen to be. You can make other arguments about whether the start times should be different and that's fair, but the order of play simply makes more sense this way around.

I don't think this forum is filled with hateful people. My view is that the haters are especially vocal and make it appear like the whole TTW is an ***** forum, which I suppose it's not.

This had been a civil place for years and I hope it will remain the same...

Now back to tennis, and go Djoko :D

If the first game of the 4th set is any indication, the women's final is going to be pushed back several hours. Ridiculous scheduling. They should have put the men on court 1.

So they will play in front of an empty crowd because no court 1 tickets will have been sold?

Or do you expect 11360 tickets to sell overnight, unscheduled, with no advertising? Let alone finding people to buy them who would have likely purchased centre court tickets.

Great forward thinking!

So, if one prefers watching men's tennis, and doesn't care about women's tennis, he is a sexist?

It is also sexist to say your opinion of others opinion (no matter how biased that other opinion might be).

My disappointment grows further.

You are right.

Can someone explain why the overwhelming majority of women prefer watching men’s tennis to women’s ?? Is that sexist as well ??

Dont be a fool. If they announced it fans would have clamored for those tickets

Tennis like everything else revolves around money. The women train just as hard as the men to become champions. Unfortunately for them they play 2 out of 3 sets instead of 3 out of 5 sets compared to the men. Also, most online viewing data suggests that fewer people watch women’s tennis than men’s tennis. Yet the women feel they should get the same amount of money. Also consider too that at the highest levels of tennis there are more many men competing for those top spots than women. I have seen it in junior Tennis and college tennis. Many girls drop out. At our sectional championships the girls division does not fill in the 18s.

Money moves the world around. Loat, feminists etc groups deal with it and move on. There is no place here for your political correct agenda full of hate. Nadal vs Nole is far more interesting in every aspect....even for women spectators.

I am not a fool. I am just being realistic. It would be impossible to sell those ticket numbers considering the match was suspended at 11pm. The ticket prices would have been massive! Believe whatever you want to believe though.

2007 Wimbledon had those serious rain delays where they had to play both men's sf at the same time before the women's final. I think something similar would have happened as well at FO 15, stuff like this happens.

Except, they don't.

How about all of the fans who pre-purchased center court tickets ahead of time for the men’s semifinal? Logistically your suggestion is not realistic. Also, remember Tennis is about money. I doubt Wimbledon wants the men’s semifinal and the women’s final played at the same time. It could very likely be tv coverage would not work out at the last minute to televise both matches.

They have to sit around and wait indefinitely for the start of one of the most important matches of their lives because of Wimbledon’s stupid rules and because of Anderson and Isner’s boring tennis.

The organisers refused to move the men’s final for the possibility of England making the World Cup final during the same time but apparently the women’s final can be easily moved to accommodate the men’s SF. It’s not a good look.

Sure it sucks for the men who have to play the next day, but again, nothing to do with the women. Blame Isner/Anderson, blame 11PM end, blame the roof etc.

Like I said, the women will survive. They're tough cookies and can handle a delay of an hour or 2 before their match. No big deal!

This was a necessary measure. Women’s tennis final can wait. The reverse would be true if it was the men’s final.

The England to the World Cup final is irrelevant. That is an external event. Djoko and nadal semi is an internal issue.

At the end of the day this shouldnt be a big deal... you just have a bunch of whingers whinging over an unfortunate turn of events. Even the great Serena Williams said so.

The challenge going forward is to avoid this in the future. Clearly the 2-week schedule is really tight and there is almost too much tennis to fit into it. Wimby officials may have to consider 5th set tie breaks and maybe bringing start times forward.

One thing you can say with absolute certainty is that people who bought women's final tickets were happy with how things turned out. Without the men's semi they've paid hundreds of pounds for a routine 6-3 6-3 one hour match.

What's funny is that both Serena and Kerber acknowledged that putting the mens match first was the most fair and sensible option to all players.

“Honestly, I just feel like it was a necessary evil.

“Not knowing how this match would go, two hours, three hours, I don’t think they could put the men’s semi-final behind the women because they have to come back the next day.

“If the tables were turned, hopefully they would have done the same with the women.

“If you look at it that way, it was probably really the only way to schedule it, yeah.”

Kerber backed up Williams’ stance by stating they had “made the right decision” by playing the game prior to the final.

So basically normal women are sensible and feminists get offended for no reason.

Yes, the earth is round too.

Yeah I was surprised to see the outrage yesterday when this seemed like the perfect solution to begin with. It wasn't going to make much if a difference if Serena and Kerber were pushed back a couple of hours but would affect Novak and Nadal is they played later.

It seemed to be the only sensible solution and I couldn't understand the fuss that the OP made. This isn't sexism. It's just the smart thing to do. Serena and Kerber have both come out now and said that it's the right decision.

It's pretty clear that the posters who made this thread, and the other similar threads, are just trolls trying to illicit a reaction from other users. They grasp at any inkling or detail that might be able to be skewed as being "UNFAIR TO WTA" and kick up a huge storm about it. At the end of the day though common sense prevails and it's great to see that the players themselves are not so narrow minded.

Of course the actual players have no issue with this. If they were in Nadal and Djokovic's shoes, they would want to play first as well.

Only certain members on this forum think this is somehow unfair or sexist

Actually, I posted this thread in response to a news article I read which had the exact same title as this thread and was a hot topic.

Absurd day of men’s tennis has repercussions for the women at Wimbledon

Nice try, only one here trolling is you. Pathetic.
