Correct. That's the stipulation of a redshirt year. No benefit in terms of contributing to a team's real-time success -- only creates potential.
My wild guess is we may see more redshirting over the next few years as the covid 5 yr. athletes phase out.

@mpournaras I would think your coach would have the redshirt conversation with you as part of the recruiting process before you sign a letter of intent and show up for day 1 of school.

UVA is so strong.. imagine what Fonseca would have done to round out the team. Their #4 freshman Deidrich has ATP strokes too. Like a junior Popyrin

No down year for Duke next year. They are re-loading according to Parsa bomb.

Oscar Brown, #1 Portland
Sam Landau, #1 Indiana, #100 ITA ranking
Remy Dugardin, 12.73 UTR 6’5 Frenchman
Theo Winegar, Columbia #1 doubles

All heading to the Blue Devils for 24/25.

Duke off to a fast start in the Transfer Portal lottery. Going to be hard to catch.

FSU #5 singles Petrovic also transferring to Duke.

I think they will have a deep roster, but I am not sure they can match the current roster at the top.

It’s funny, this current transfer portal situation is becoming pretty handy for universities with good academics (and it’s also totally out of hand, but that’s a separate discussion)

They can wield one year MBAs and such as bigtime transfer carrots

I thought he was going to Oregon for his grad year. I guess he changed his mind.

UNC and GT go down. The ACC had a strong top 5 this year but the depth was certainly lacking
Doubles has been questionable all year for GT. They have to/had to have the doubles point in every match in order to be competitive. Coach Thorne kept mixing players at the 2 and 3 positions and it just never gelled. Pretty disappointing end to the season.

Pedro will reach a mental milestone this summer and come out undefeated next year. I can feel it.

If he has a great summer (like last year) will he return? We’ve seen Shelbayh and others leave early and have success on tour. If he returns Duke will be formidable, if not they’ll be good but not top 10. Guys other than Landau have played lower down or are doubles specialists like Winegar. Johns and Zhang are among the best college players. Tough to replace on the fly especially with respect to experience.

Yeah they likely won’t be as good as they are this season but they’ll avoid a big drop off like they had in the mid to late 2010s following the Cunha/Saba years.

He as absolutely not at “livelihood” tour level yet. I can’t imagine he’d leave. I think he ready to be a #1 here. He’s young too so his ceiling is still a ways away

If Rodenas returns, Duke will be top 5-10 on paper. If he doesn't, they are still borderline top 10. The level of college tennis about to drop with most of the Covid bonus years going away. Ohio State losing 5 of top 6, UVA losing 4 of top 6, Texas losing 4 of top 6, etc.

As for the kids coming in, I like my chances with 22-24 year olds, especially down low

Yeah, I am not a Duke "fan" but I did move to Durham many years ago and I support a strong Duke team because it works out for my viewing pleasure.

I have slowly become a fan by exposure I guess. Pedro has creativity that many players do not have so It would be fun to see him keep playing here

Lol Duke just landed Gerard Planelles from Arkansas also. What is Ramsey Smith cooking?
Man if UF continues to bleed recruits and Duke continues to pick them up…I’m gonna need to travel to Durham some next year

Imagine if Kim transferred to Duke…throw some of that basketball NIL money at him and let’s hang a banner!

Unlikely Kim going to Duke for what I have gathered; it wouldn't fit him

I was listening to the cracked racquets interviews and Coach Bresky at Wake mentioned how next year, ACC teams won’t play 2 teams in the league and he already knows Wake won’t play UNC or Duke. So the Wake/NC State travel partners won’t play Duke/UNC. That’s just stuuuuupid.

Buckeyes Anthrop and Bernard are only sophomores, but 4 of top 6 still going to be tough to reload without some help from transfer portal. Would love to see Buckeyes pull in some mid-13 UTR's as they are going to be light at the top. Nakashima the only other 13+ on the roster for next year.
