Accepting that you cannot use poly strings

wasn't the clash designed with a certain string in mind? I think its some luxilon string.

Yeah I think it was Luxilon smart. It was supposed to be soft on feel shots and stiffen up for powerful shots. No idea if it was just marketing hype though.

MSV swift would be the first one I'd try
Is that not a poly ?

I am using poly mains (Cyber Flash) and want to use multi og syn gut as cross.

If I get any kind of arm problem it is back to multies again, and I could be totally happy with that too.

Of sorry I read your initial post wrong. Thought you were asking for a poly.

I'm not really sure on a good multi as a cross string. I remember people saying Babolat Origin was a good soft cross string. I'm pretty sure they rebranded it as RPM soft. It's a monofilament but not a poly.

Guys sorry but could not help myself and trying out poly in hybrids with syn gut or multis as cross.

So far no arm problems, please make som suggestions for good cross strings. Priority is sofness (arm safety) and little string movement.

Professional classic but I think you know that already ;)
Not the greatest with regards to string movement but wins on softness.

So through with the first set of Triax. 1.28 (thinnest) gauge.

Playability is great, spin better than any other multi I've tried. Tbf not technically a pure multi.
Plays great from start to finish, minimal difference 5 min before breaking or fresh. Not string movement for the first few hours, minimal movement in the last 2 hours.
The main problem with it, the durability is quite bad, I'm not sure if I even played 5 hours with before it broke.
Less durable than 1.25 Rip control which costs half as much, so that's not so great.
I've gotten a reel of 1.33 in a sale (1.38 wasn't on sale sadly) so I'll try that soon.
First up though, multifeel black.

I broke it in about 10 hours in a tecnifibre TF40 18x20. I didn't find it to be much different than any other multi ive tried.

I'm really curious to try it in my clash. They make a 1.38 version that may help with your durability issues. I've played with Prince premiere control 1.40 and I didnt notice worse playability than the 1.30 version.

Just a few thoughts for anyone thinking of buying a clash / really arm friendly racket.

Although they have the same RA, the clash v1 is not as comfortable as the Prokennex Black ace 300. That's expected as the PK has the kenetic tech as well as being flexy.

The clash is more powerful and stable in stock form, which I think is a good trade off for the slight decrease in comfort.

Both play great with a multi. People said that they would play too "mushy" with a soft string, but I like how they play and feel. Maybe that's just my preference though.

Overall, I expected not to like the clash, but I think it's one of the best rackets for people who suffer arm issues. I've used it with a poly and now a multi and had no issues at all.

I managed to get a good deal on a white roland garros Clash 100 v2, so I'll do a comparison in feel and comfort against the Clash 98 v1 in due time.

Tried Multifeel black for the first time today.
Stringing this was weird, it makes horrible creaking noises while tensioning, never heard that before.
Great snapback on this one, very nice spin for a multi. Not the softest of multis but playablity is great, nice mix of spin, power, control.
Durability seems not so great, the crosses started fraying after the first hour and I could see the coating wearing off.
The second hour was doubles, otherwise this might be broken already. My fault for buying the 1.25 gauge I guess.

Just tried Multifeel black too, in the crosses. It’s so stiff compared to natural. The coating makes it feel more like a poly cross than natural (which is super soft and pocket-y). Going to string it even lower at 48lb next time.

Yes durability is the cons of Multifeel black as it frays easily, and the snapback will be reduced to a normal multi strings when that happens. When fresh, MF snapback is the best for any multi I have tried so far. I think even better than most polys.

If I play with a premium multi like X-One in the mains, I cut out Multifeel when it starts to fray too much and replace with a new. Just like I do with a gut / poly hybrid when the poly goes dead and the gut is still fine.

Yes this is my experience too, I string Multifeel more in the neighborhood of how I would string a poly. With other multi mains I string MF black 2-3 kg lower as cross.

I play w a gut hybrid now, but when I tested a racquet, I would use multis. I liked isospeed axon.

I also tried cyberflash and some other soft polys as a cross, but didn't feel a difference between monogut ZX and the polys, so I stuck w ZX to be safe for my elbow.

I received the Wilson clash 100 V2 Roland Garros verions a few days ago. I haven't strung it up yet. One thing I'd note for anyone interested in buying one, the paint job seems a little cheaper than the original version. It doesn't have that velvety texture. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't feel premium.

This version is mainly white with blue stripes and a tan coloured bumper guard.

I'm sure it will play nice, but I was hoping for it to look nicer in person.

Can you still get isospeed axon?
The multi seems to be extinct over here in europe.

So multifeel black broke right at the 4 hour mark.
I think this is a great string for someone looking for a string that plays close to a poly but is a bit softer and keeps tension throughout its life.
Not much softer than a poly but it doesn't have the jarring vibrations that polys can produce on mishits.
So I'd recommend this to anyone who doesn't break multis too quickly and still wants good spin without using polys.

Curiously this was the first string where, in a full bed, I broke the crosses. I always break the mains first normally.
So I wagger this would go well with a more resilient multi to increase durability. Might kill the spin potential though. Probably great with a poly cross too.

Next up Velocity 1.25 black or Rucanor Hy-O-Sheep Vibless.

I too can no longer use pure polys either.
I have made the switch from as of latest poly which was the softest I could find . Ultra cable . To…
Now I use in no order
Head rip control
Isospeed axon multi - my fave
Head Fxp tour - now discontinued
Isospeed - professional 17 g
Prince pro blend ( sounds crazy but no pain )
I string everything between 36-40 lbs tension

Which racket do you play with?

Which racket do you play with?
I use an old pro staff classic 95 jr 26 model cuz it’s super flexible .
Or I use the old Head Club Pro midsize frames .
Both of these rackets are in the 30’s RA stiffness ranges . I flat out can’t use anything else due to it hurts too bad .. plus I have gotten so used to the softness I simply can’t play with anything else

And what racket / rackets are you enjoying ?

I wish I had a more interesting selection like you have.

I've literally used hundreds of rackets over the last 10 years, as I've been buying and selling them for some extra $$$.

I always gravitate towards more flexible rackets as I enjoy the sensation on impact, and it keeps some shoulder tendonitis away.

At the moment I'm using the Clash 98 and 100, and have no complaints so far.

However, I often take out my Volk C10 pro when I'm not playing competitively. As I have so many rackets with me at one time, it's very hard to fight the temptation to use them (I often give in haha).

I recently got hold of a Prince Graphite pro 90, which has a 14x18 string pattern and a low 50s RA. Lovely buttery feel.

I too have taken a liking to multis, but I've never gone below 48lbs.

It's great that you've found something that works for you :)

Awww yes sir ! I too absolutely adore flexy tennis rackets .
I was blessed and super lucky to be on the Wilson pro team that got too test rackets before they came out . The clash was the ONE I was super pumped about trying . For some odd reason I couldn’t control it . But I’m weird man . But I was thrilled that Wilson was able to go against the grain and put something out that was so soft . I love Wilson for that . I appreciate their efforts for us folks that enjoy soft rackets . Interestingly enuff I’ve seen more adult players using the clash more than any other racket combined in the last year ..
So your in good company friend ..

And 25 minutes to string !
Aww but well worth the effort . For me as I do this for my work , plus it’s fun as all hell , and I enjoy the artistry of it all.

Very nice. Any quick guide on how to take the paint off without destroyign the racquet?
There's one frame I want to do this with.
Thank you sir .
I appreciate that . Very much . It’s a labor of love .
Yes it’s incredibly easy . All you need is a cheap electric hand sander . Mine cost 13 dollars . Just use it on the racket with a medium grain sandpaper attach it to the sander and get after it . It’s easy just go until you stop seeing the paint

Maybe not: TW is saying it's backordered until the 24th. I used it last year.

Teachingprotx and I seem to have similar likes.

I also have about 5 old pro staff 7.5, but I'm using the phantom 97p now.

Haha, coinflip decided on Velocity. Rucanor next.
Any tension advice compared to 1.25 velocity or other strings I might know?
It's been light years since I've used a ≤1.25mm and comparisons to ≥1.35mm multis probably won't be helpful.
I'd go +[1;1.5]kg your tension for soft poliesters.

Ok, I have one of these. I'm just worried about taking off more than the paint.

I am back to multi strings, testing did not work out due to arm problems and performance. I have to accept that poly strings are not for me at this moment, but I am sure I will give it another round sometime in the future.

Favorite setup:

X-One / MF black
RIP Control / MF black

Did you experience some soreness?

Yes shoulder, but not total sure its string related, but just to be safe.

Other reason was that I did not see any performance increase with poly over multi, and I like the feel of multi better.
I've got to this stage too.

I'm doing a lot of rehab work to strengthen my shoulder, but I really want it to be bulletproof before committing to polys again.

I used volkl cyclone tour with no pain, but the feel of that string is so plasticy that it's no fun the play with.

Sorry to hear about your arm problems during your experiments. Out of interest, what are the string tensions for the favourite setups you quote in the above post. What racquet do you put them in?

I play Angell TC100 its a really great racquet and I like the Angell feeling, also have TC95 and K7 Lime in the Angell lineup.

I string fairly low, 22-23kg for multi mains of FB multi. MF black for me is poly like but with arm comfort so I string it 2-3 kg lower. X-One/MF 23/20 RIP/MF 22/19. When I did the poly experiment I strung poly mains at 17kg and the same for multi cross.

I used to own a couple of the Angell tc101. Great rackets. No idea why I sold them.

I'd love to try the new React series.

It’s like anything else . Once you get over the fear you’re home . But I get it I was freaked out too the first time..
just go slow . If you need help you can always reach out to me pm me and I can shoot ya my info to help you

First impression on full bed velocity is that I don't like it.
Compared to multifeel black it just kinda does everything worse.
Less spin, less control, more ambiguous feel i.e. harder to know where you have hit the ball, more muted.
Might be slightly softer but hard to tell.

Hit a few minutes with Origin too, might be the different tension or gauge or racquet but seems better than RPM soft.

Try Velocity mains and MF in the crosses, with MF strung lower than Velocity. This is better than FB Velocity.
