Access Stringing program

Hello all, I have been working on a stringing program that is designed to keep track of any type of racquet services rendered. So over the last month or so, and with the exception of a few minor issues, I think it is ready for some public critique. I’m hoping those of you that have MS Access 2007 or above would give it a quick look and give me some of your thoughts as to what could be better, what needs to be added, or subtracted.
This is a very simple program, yet has the potential to really aide the stringer in keeping track of their clients, client racquets, string jobs, Racquet services and history. For example It will Keep track of your client base. Keep track of your clients racquets, including history, specs any open orders etc, keep track of racquet modifications. It has a lookup, editable stringing pattern database for tennis racquets only right now, but in later versions I will include badminton and racquetball racquets. AT a glance you can see how many jobs you have done, how many jobs done for a particular client and how many jobs done on a particular racquet.
It is fast, In fact, probably faster than writing a label out.
Has a self generating label for the brother p touch printer at ½ inch. I find the ¾ inch label to bulky and cumbersome.
Creates your own business cards.
So if you are interested, in just checking this out, I do encourage you to do so.
Again, this is work in progress, but I think looks pretty good so far, there is still I have on the plate to add such as multiple stringing machines, Multiple stringers, accounting and some other items.

I won’t bore you with how to work it, it is pretty easy to figure out, just for now.. fill out the Admin info to get your opening screen right.. defaulted to something else right now. If you don’t and you try to print labels it will come out with the default stringing company name.

I don’t have stringing itemized.. for instance in the open work order where you put in service detail.. you would put in the string job. So it would be like this..
M, Babolat Pro Hurricane 18@48lbs
X, Forten Sweet 17@52lbs.
When you put in the first line, you need a CARRAIGE RETURN for the 2nd line.. you do that by using the shift key. [shift][enter] That will give you a line break. It is important because when you print your label, it will go straight through with out a line break.

This is configured for the Brother Ptouch ¾ printer, but the label is setup for the ½ tape. The ¾ I found just to bulky and just didn’t look as good.

Another tip, is that if you just want to add the job, without doing the job..Put the status on Working.. and when you go back.. just over write the Service Detail info with the new info.

You will all figure it out, if you have any questions, just let me know, I’ll answer them via the forum or email if you email me.

I'd like to attach the program, but do not seem to be able to so If you would like to try it, email me at blabolat@gmail.com

I have some pics too.. this is the opening screen you will see with the outstanding service orders.. links to other parts of the program.

1.jpg

clicking on MAIN will give you this screen.
2theplayers.jpg

This is just a list of your clients that you have.. you open one to get the details. such as this screen shot of the details of your client.

3theptherClient.jpg

From here you can see the details.. the service overview of all the work you have done for that person. and you can tab over to get the Racquet details..

4theptherframe.jpg

That is where you will do the bulk of the work.. Service orders, adding racquets etc. You can see the pull down list to all easy selection of your racquet.. or their racquet.

too continue on the next post.. 4 images is the limit.

Continuing..

The next screen is the racquet detail where you can keep track of weight, sw and other racquet characteristics.

5framedetail.jpg

This next screen is the shot of Service order itself with the pop up racquet stringing specs.

6Serviceorder-stringspec.jpg

Also from this screen you can view the history, any open service orders their might be..this is a screen shot of the history.

7history.jpg

There are more shots but.. these will do.. this final one I'll show is the auto matic label generator that will print after a service order is finished.

9label.jpg

Again, this is a simple program, but very powerful stuff for your stringing book keeping needs.
If you would like to try it out let me know.. blabolat@gmail.com

thanks.

Wow how much did it cost you to get Nadal, Roddick, Federer, Sharapova, and Murray to endorse your site? If on the other hand you did not pay for those pictures don't be surprised when you get a call. The photographers who took those images don't just pass them out for the world to use free. There are copywright laws. You know that don't you?

LOL I have powerful friends!
They are going to be very upset now that their address's and phones are out for all.

Yes, I know what copywright laws are, do I understand it? Perhaps not. I do know that if this was a commercial venture it would definitely be in violation, and I would then be very leery of using them and probably wouldn't have. Since, this is not a commercial venture and it is not, I wasn't sure, I should have gotten legal advice perhaps. Fact is, there is one very very commercial site whose forum site is littered with these photo's, would that not too be a violation, perhaps even greater?

If I do get a call, I will cheerfully change the image to something more interesting.. I'm not sure if we could stand Maria staring at us all day or see Murry's Brutish profile gracing our pretty monitors anyway.

Excerpt from http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html

§ 107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include

blah blah blah ...

You may have a valid point there if you are tying to educate someone.

Well..I guess I have been once again reminded why we have lawyers and such. :)

Irvin, would you like me to rid the pictures?
On the other hand, I feel I have just been educated... oh wait, does it now mean it is now ok?

Irvin, you should try the program.. it's not only fun, not only productive, but it is educational..

If this is a point of concern, I can tell you that the pics are easily removed and not embedded in the program.
That said, I do thank you for your interest.

Well I have to say,
I felt this was a pretty easy program to use, but after a couple of comments, I see perhaps it wasn't.
The first one's I sent.. I had packaged and for some reason, I do not know why and haven't found a answer is that the code would not read through the forms and subforms of the program. That is a big thing as the code relates to everything.

So I re packaged it.. that worked but some of it was still confusing as to how to enter a new racquet spec, and after looking, I could see that..Couple of other issues that I am working on now. So to you that tried it, I do thank you and will keep you updated if you are still interested.

You are using Access which has a lot of limitations.

You should get a book on web development with SQL and PHP and work on that.

I work in healthcare where they use tons of crap little Access applications, they can get to be really frustating after awhile.

Hey dude, any developments, haven't heard back from you yet.

Also has anyone heard about the GSS's Racket Tracker for Mac using a Filemaker runtime?

I've been cleaning it up.. a lot cleaner interface, no pics, no blacks.. It's gotten simpler yet more complicated because I installed a inventory system as well as a demo check in and check out system as well as some other stuff. WOrk sales order, work request orders etc etc.

Yeah it is access, and access has limitations I guess, I don't know what, but with what I use it for, it is fine.

i sent an email too. thanks

I don't think I got your email.. try again, I should have this done by tonite if all goes well.

I've trimmed it down to a simple stringing database.
It is all it does but it will be proficient in that job.

Will keep track of open jobs..
History of jobs done with the racquet..
client database..
POP up stringing details of the string specs.
and automatically generates a nice label of the string job.. including the weight of the racquet.. bal point, date strung, type of strings and tension.
And with perhaps two idiosyncrasies, very very easy to use now.

Hey.. I'm a Semi-pro.. woohooo.

OK.. have sent out numerous copies..
Again, I have scaled it down to just a stringing software, simple easy and should have no problems.. should is the key I guess.. enjoy and anyone else would like.. let me know.

I have noticed that when I abruptly get out of access for what ever reason, sometimes I get this "go sub" error.. its a fault with Access it self and there is a fix. For example, you try to click on a link.. and Ms access will come up with an error..NOT MY FAULT!
Let me know if you do.

Welcome to the world of using crappy Access applications.

(I work in healthcare, we used to have tons of those)

Web-based is the way to go. Using SQL, PHP, etc...

This is really not a discussion on the quality or merits of access.. Perhaps over in the microsoft forum they would care more
In fact, I think you mentioned that before.. doubtless, I fear, you will mention it again, but I get the picture. Perhaps If I was a programmer, Perhaps If I had other tools, Perhaps if I wasn't such a rotten boy in my youth..
