Achievements at the French Open - Federer

I feel like it is time to start a thread of all the achievements that Federer could achieve at this year's French Open.

If he reaches the quarterfinals, it will be his 10th French Open quarterfinal. He will become the first male player to have reached at least 10 quarterfinals at three different majors.

If he reaches the semifinals, it will be his 8th French Open Semifinal. He will have reached at least 8 semifinals at all four majors. Only Lendl and Agassi have even reached 5 or more semifinals at all four majors. (Federer has reached 7 or more semifinals at all four majors). He will also overtake Guillermo Vilas for the most match wins at the French Open.

If he reaches the finals, it will be his 6th French Open final. He will have reached at least 6 finals at three different majors. Only Borg and Lendl have even reached 4 finals at three different majors. (Federer has reached at least 5 finals at all four majors) He will tie Lendl and Sampras for most consecutive years reaching a grand slam final with 11.

If he somehow wins the tournament, he would be the first man in the open era to win the career grand slam twice.

If he reaches the finals and loses, he will have the most spectacularly dismal record in FO finals of anyone to have played more than two FO finals in the open era.

These records all pale in comparison to what RNadal can achieve at Roland Garros. You may as well create a DFerrer achievement thread. :-P

(in fact, he already does, at 1-4; a virtual Buffalo Bills of FO finals)

Wow, that's awful. And if RFederer loses to RNadal, he'll be 0-6 against him at Roland Garros. ARoddick is to RFederer at Wimbledon as RFederer is to RNadal at Roland Garros. :-P

The fact of the matter is Federer may have won the French Open in 2009 but he is yet to take Nadal to 5 sets at the French Open.. In fact only one player has ever achieved that feat in history, that was John Isner.

Yeah, but Soderling managed to win against Nadal in only 4 sets :/

This is trivial.

If he gets to the semi- and finals, that will give me 2 more matches that I can watch him play. No cable for me, that's why. Win or lose, that's the cherry on top of the cake, doesn't matter too much at this point.

That's an amazing run considered clay is his least favorite surface, and still being overshadowed by his domination on hc and grass. Federer's greatness on clay is overlooked thus is underrated when placing him in all time greatest cc.

I agree. Sampras' 0-0 record in FO finals is much better than Federer's 1-5 (or 1-6 if Federer loses in the final again).

Some people..

Which is arguably the slightly easier feat of the 2!

Both Soderling's achievement and John's have only occurred once, however the fact is on any surface if you are going to beat Rafa then it better be a beat down with a player having an amazing day hitting bombs all over the place, Soderling did this at the French much like Del Po did at the US Open in 2009 and Tsonga at the Australian in 2008.

However John went toe to toe with Rafa at the French Open which is his fortress and took the king of clay to 5 sets it really is a mind-blowing achievement.

Correction: fed has already made at least 5 finals at all four majors. Ao: 2004, 6, 7, 9, and 10

FO:2006,7,8,9,11
WO: 2003-9+12
USO:2004-2009

Federer has reached at least 4 finals at all four majors and at least 5 finals at three different majors.
