I think now is a good time to look at some of the achievements that Nadal could achieve if he won this year's French Open.
If he reaches the semifinals, he will have the record for most semifinals at the French Open with 8 (currently tied with Federer). He will have reached 20 Major semifinals, which would be the 6th most all time.
If he reaches the finals, he will join Federer, Sampras, and Lendl as the only players to have reached 8 finals at one Major.
If he likely wins the tournament, he will become the first male player ever to win one Major 8 times. This would mean 66.7% of his majors came at one major. Of the 17 male players in the open era, with 4 or more Majors, Nadal's 66.7% of major wins coming at one Major would tie Novak Djokovic (Australian Open) for highest percentage of total Majors won at just one Major. For reference, Federer's 7 Wimbledons is 41% of all his total Majors. He would have the record for most consecutive years of winning at least one Major with 9 consecutive years. That is beyond impressive.
