Achilles Tendon injury: new shoes

Can anybody recommend tennis shoes that don't ride the Achilles tendon? I had a pair of Babolat shoes last year that cut into my Achilles tendon and since then, I have just an annoyance pain from it. It was part my fault for tying the shoes so darn tight.

In my experience the Asic Gel Resolution 6 fit low on the ankle for me.

As someone who ruptured my Achilles' tendon in 1991, you may want to think about shoes that have more cushioning in the heel, raising it off of the ground a bit. However, I have no idea what those are[emoji4]. I really like my Asics GSS2s for clay and in general, Asics seem to fit my foot well. An exercise that I did after surgery was to write every letter of the alphabet in the air with my big toe. It was a physical therapy exercise taught to me by someone who works with dancers, who saved my friend's dance career. It's a way of making the foot go in lots of different directions. On the positive side, I've had absolutely no issues since my surgery and have never played better. I can wear any shoe now.

Ruptured my right Achilles last April and started playing again in late August. Chose a pair of Gel Res 6's as my comeback shoes and they treated me well. A tiny bit of heel lift, but super comfortable. I hear the 7's are even better.

I found the Yonex Power Pro Cushions with orthotics to be a great solution until they discontinued the shoe. Unfortunately, the Eclipsion is too narrow. I'm now using the Barricade Boost without orthotics. I've tried the Asics Gel Res, but the tighter fit made my achilles ache after playing. Shoes are such a personal thing that I would try various models on before buying.

I snapped my Achilles a few years ago in the middle of a USTA doubles match - Asics for me. I also had a torn meniscus, for which Asics also seem to be a good thing. Good luck in your search!
