Actual height of the pro players- accurate or not?

In basketball and american football, they very clearly stretch the truth on players hight and weight. What about tennis? Is Nadal really 6'1" and 188lbs? Anyone been close enough to know whether or not the hight, weight and other physical stats are exaggerated? Just wondering....

Nadal- 6-1, 188
Federer 6-1, 187
Djoko 6-2. 176

I think they are all taller than listed:
nadal and fed - 6-2
novak - 6-3

I remember Fed and Sampras standing together at the exhib's and at wimby this year. Fed clearly looks about an inch taller than sampras who is 6-1.

Looking at this pic, Fed is clearly taller than Nadal, about the same height as Djokovic. Fed/Nadal both listed as 6'1" on ATP and Djoko 6'2" but in fact Fed should be closer to 6'2" and Nadal would be between 6' and 6'1".

I remember when Jennifer Capriati was listed as 5'8'' and 135 pounds. Then suddenly she was 5'7'' and 160 pounds. Haha.

P.S. Soderling's expression is awesome.

Nice pic. Davydenko looks taller than 5ft10 there, more like 6ft.. unless Nadal is shorter than 6ft1.

You can't tell their true heights from pics alone though. Maybe some of the guys are wearing shoes with taller heels than the other guys. I don't think they are all wearing the same kind of shoes.

True, and some may stand with straighter backs than others

In that case, Davydenko might be wearing high heels if he's a true 5'10.

Here again, Roddick is 6'2" and Federer looks to be the same height. I'd say Federer is definitely taller than listed.

Remember TV makes people look shorter.

I recall Safin clambering out of the back of his courtesy Mercedes and stood next to us and he was huge...

So yes generally you would think something genetic was going on when pro players are standing around.

I'm not necessarily tall at over 5'11" - but that's Hewitt's height!

When I was a linesman I stood next to Davydenko up close and he was clearly taller than me and I'm 5'11, which is what he is listed as.

Unless I just have extremely bad posture

I'm 5'11 and I've had both Haas and Fed walk past and they (particularly Haas) seemed more like basketballers. Even Fabrice seemed to be around my height.

Nadal stays a little bit ahead so this makes him look shorter than Fed. And Federer's hair....

Amusing that fed and rodderick are both wearing wristwatches in that pic. Like they might need to know the time while collecting their trophies.

Btw in that Murray vid on his youtube channel with those competition winners one asks him how tall he is and he says about 6ft 2 IIRC.

Sampras is "not" 6'1" closer to 6'0". I(6'2") stood right next to him years ago at the US Indoor at Philly and was surprised how short he appeared.

I guess it depends on who's doing the measuring. I know in Football, and basketball, they measure with shoes on, because, let's face it, who play professional basketball/football without em. As for the the Federer/Roddick picture, it could be Fed is standing tall because he won, and Roddick is slumping because he lost... :p

I'd say the claimed heights/weights are closer in tennis to accurate than in basketball/football. Those are horribly exaggerated, or often their heights in basketball shoes. Kobe, for example, when he came into the league, was listed at 6'7, then cut down to 6'6, but by his own words, "I'm 6'4.75" barefoot, only about 6'5" in shoes (Obviously 6'5 and change).

I remember Federer's profile went back and forth from 6'1' to 6'2', and then back to 6'1'

I believe Nadal is 6'1'', Fed and Rod are 6'2'', Djoko and Murray are 6'3''. Soderling is 6'4''

Davydenko looks more like he's 5'9 or 5'10'' tops.

I recall hearing an announcer say once that Marat Safin was listed as 6'4" when he was 18 or younger, and it's possible he grew after that. He looks taller. I think it's possible that many pros list their heights when they turn pro in their teens and then never update them.

I think Patrick McEnroe recently said Soderling is clearly taller than his listed height of 6'3" (looks taller in that photo), but it may just be that he's so big through the shoulders that he looks taller.

I also recall recently an announcer saying that he'd talked to some Spaniards about Verdasco's listed height of 6'2" and they all busted up laughing because he's shorter than 6'2". But he's clearly about the same height as Djokovic in that photo, so I'd say they were wrong. That announcer said it's common for players to exaggerate their height, but it seems to me like they're listed wrong in both directions.

Unfortunately, I think the only way for us to know anything is to see these guys in person. Nearly everyone I've met who's stood next to the pros say they're bigger than expected.

Safin has said quite a few times he's around 196-197 cm, which is closer to 6'6' than 6'4'. Just a tad taller than 6'5''

But does it really matter? I mean, Federer is probably the GOAT, and he is 6'1" - 6'2", so he isn't a giant like Delpo. And if you look at that picture, and compare his height with Davydenko, you can see that 3 inches or so really isn't that much. Does it really make a big difference in play? If Federer was 5'10", would he not have won 16 majors?

Haha at the people saying Djokovic is 6'3'', he's not even a strong 6'2''. If he is 6'2'', he scrapes it.

Federer is 6'1''. Same with Nadal, but a weaker 6'1''.

Some people say Safin is more than 6'4''. I'd say he's around 194cm, but not quite 6'5'', I can make an accurate judgement as I've seen him in person.

You always say this, but you never provide any sort of source. Have you stood aside him in person? I have and he's no taller than me (6'4'') I doubt it. Look at multiple photos. Maybe the ones where he is aside J. Johansson in Hale in 2005 doubles ceremony. Johansson is clearly at least 5 cm taller.

6'5'' Berdych is clearly at least 2cm taller. Maybe not a full inch, but this basically proves Marat doesn't break 6'5''.

I guess that's just because no one can handle this stupid angloamerican system. if there's one thing I can't stand it is calculating or describing anything in inch, foot and yard. and even worse, sqmiles, acres and so on. did that once for a couple of weeks and I'm horrified

and yeah well, those heights aren't anything precise. same with the weight...

the second pic is hilarious. berdych and safin with long hair next to bald ljubicic. ljubicic does look shorter than 6'4 more like 6'3 next to 6'4 safin and 6'5 berdych

judging by some pics, nadal is clearly shorter than fed but fed is about the same as roddick, both of whom are shorter than djokovic and murray. if i had to guess i'd say fed and roddick are 6'1-6'2 nadal is more like 6'0 davydenko is 5'10-5'11 djokovic and verdasco are 6'2 murray is 6'3 soderling is 6'4 and del potro is 6'6

Federer has double the number of slam titles as the remaining 7 guys in the picture combined. Can you tell there is something special about him just by looking at this pic?

He's the only one who's pants don't cover both his shoes?

Sampras is shrinking so comparing his atp height to federers atp height is wrong. Hes old so its natural to lose an inch due to the aging process.

Look At Jmac who is listed at 5 feet 11 impreal inches or 180 modern centimeters, he is tiny next to federer who is only 'officially' 5 cm taller.

hmmmmm, according to the WTA site, Safina is 5'11'' ( :D ) Shoulder to shoulder, that would make Fed 5'10'' ???
