Adidas apparel sizing vs Nike's

i've always kept myself open to adidas apparel but the few several times i have, sizing has been an issue...i got a regular t-shirt for a birthday once and it was a size medium but when i put it on it was huge...it felt like a large or even bigger

i've had 2 other instances with adidas apparel for jackets but this top looks pretty appealing to me and i'm wondering whether to go with a small or medium (i usually wear medium in my nike tennis apparel, as well as normal apparel)

Adidas make everything huge and Nike makes everything small, even shoes. My preference is Adidas shoes, Nike clothes.
