Adidas Barricade 2021

...but wow do they feel like cardboard when walking in them. It's a strange feeling upper, how long do they take to break in....
They just don't feel that way for me at all. They feel perfectly fine fresh out of the box. Break in time....I haven't really noticed per se....maybe by the third or fourth time I wear them they've loosened up just a bit.

Upper takes forever afaik, mine are still not worn-in basically becasuse they tear the skin so much so I had put them aside for months while I wore out other shoes... will eventually get there but it takes time!
That's doesn't sound good. Where in your foot is the skin being tore? I found along the tendon going towards the big toe they tend to dig in a bit when Folding over with movement but if I wear them slightly looser this is lessened. But it's a strange sort of synthetic upper, very different from the older series but still not breathable it seems. Maybe production cost but I guess fit is slighter closer on upper which will suit the performance player for locked in feel.

Sounds good for you, I guess foot shape and size varies so much its very personal but there is a theme I think from issues maybe with the fit for many. I will have to see if they give and feel better after a couple of sessions and no damage done to my feet in the meantime.

Achilles, just that the back collar of the shoe rips on the achilles above the heel...

Also direct comparison: compared to my ASICS gel res 8, these Barricades just don't have the same forefoot cushioning.

My left foot complains in the Barras, but gets-by in the gel res.

(And I have the exact same good quality replacement inner soles in both.)

This slimmed down sportier Barracade is no longer is true to name.

I just noticed said this
"The only big problem I have with the shoe is the 'attack angle' of the back heel support towards the achilles. It ruined the shoe until I decided to razor blade the section and take a chunk out of it (half an inch wide or so) to prevent myself from getting blisters. No idea why adidas went with such an aggressive angle on that heel support. If they just went straight up with it I think the shoe would be perfect."

That appears to be the same problem I have had so far...

The same I have too.

My solution was less radical, I just started using an ankle brace because I didn´t want to put tape over my Achilles tendons and that was it, no more blisters and the shoe was a dream from then on.

I stopped using them because I started to feel heel pain and that´s because the insole lost some of its cushioning but the outsoles and the shoe seem intact, I´m going to buy some heel cushioning insoles so I can get another year of use from them before I start using the last pair I have new.

Did you have no issue with the shoe further up to the toes? It seems a little bit unusual on the upper in now it moves with the foot. I am assuming they will break in and soften up after a few hours use. I like the connected feel to the ground the barricade give and the feeling of balance and firmness. I hope they settle in well as the barricade is my favourite. It's just an uncertain start with this strange design.

I think I'm gonna give breaking these in a miss, there is too much that does not feel right both in the upper near left toe above and the achilles rear and even side where my tendon is. As many have got on OK with these they are nothing like the older version apart from the actual feel and low to the ground solid feel which I want. Not sure what other options give this but I will keep my eye out. Tried a couple of lower end Adidas like the gamecourt 2 but they weren't great and a solematch bounce in a UK11.5 which is ashame as I needed a UK12 which the store didn't have. Hmmm

The update looks to have fixed the issue with the large heel wall thing. I think those bothered by the heel should give it a try. But for me these work very well, too shoe rotating with gel res.

It takes about 2 outings playing in tall socks for the achilles issue to go away and the uppers to open up. I wear no shows after that. These are one of the best shoes out there right now. I just got 2 more pair on a 2for1 deal on prime day. I will switch to the updated model when i have to. But for now, i will take the discount prices on these and be extremely happy.

Yeah the shoe is very comfortable and durable. It can sometimes be warm but it’s really not that bad, at least for my area. Only thing is it occasionally feels heavy.

I had no issues besides the blisters in my Achilles tendons, they settle wonderfully, they are fast and responsive, low to the ground, like the F1 of tennis shoes.

I picked up a pair of 2021 barricades on sale and it feels like a mini update from the original pink ones I bought a year ago. The shoes laces are thicker, textured, and not stupidly long. Also, the heel seems thicker too. I compared it to my old ones. Anyone else notice this? Like a mini update for 2022 or something.

I checked out the 2023 version in my local tennis shop, further new updates that look great.
