Adidas Barricade 7.0 Clay - is the outsole softer than the hardcourt version?

TW,

I love my Barricades but the new ones seem to flex higher up than I'd like (under the toes instead of the ball of the foot). I was wondering if Chris or one of the other playtesters would know if the Barricade 7.0 clay has a different flex-point due to the change in the shank design ?

Thanks guys,

Sam

SamSung,

Unfortunately, none of our playtesters have worn the Barricade 7 Clay. However, I talked to Chris and he said the way the tread pattern is cut on the clay version should make it feel softer.

Sorry I am not able to give you more information!

Brittany,

That's okay and thanks for replying, it was kind of a left-field idea.

One other question (for you or any of the TW playtest team) - if I wear a size 12 in the Adidas Barricade would I be a size 12 in the Prince Rebel 2 ?

Thanks again,

Sam

I am obviously not on the playtest team, but about 6 months back I switched form the B6 to the rebel, to eventually the rebel 2. I was an 11.5 in the Barricades, but I find because of the extra toe room, I need an 11 in the Prince.

Thanks BHiC that is really helpful. I have a little bit wider foot and use a full orthotic plus an ankle brace so I might just stay with my traditional size 12. If there's an excess room I can always wear a second pair of socks.

Thanks again.

SamSung,

After talking to our playtesters who wore both the adidas Barricade 7 and the Prince Rebel 2, they both came to the conclusion the Barricade 7 was wider fitting then the Rebel 2. While neither of them went down a half size, Chris said in terms of volume the Barricade 7 was definitely more roomy. He has a narrow width foot and normally wears 2 pairs of socks (like with the Barricade 7) but with the Prince Rebel 2 he only needed to wear one.

Brittany,

Thanks very much for your help (and the other testers) that is really interesting to hear. My only concern with the Barricade (the reason for asking about the outsole on the clay model and looking at the Rebel 2) is that due to foot problems my podiatrist recommended I look for shoes that flex around the ball of the foot. The Barricades I've had in the past flexed further up towards the toes & I assumed the 7's would do similar. But, if the outsole is softer on the clay and they've got more width than the Rebel, I might have to take another look at the B7.

I gather Siobhan has had a lot of foot and/or ankle problems, does she go for a particular type of shoe or thinks that one style/brand works best to help her with those issues ?

@SamSung,

In regards to my injuries, I value shoes that have more stability because I have an innate fear of spraining my ankle. Both the Barricade and the Prince are really good in that aspect. I played a lot in Barricades growing up, and I currently like the Asics Res 4s. One thing I do suggest (and this was really important for me playing after surgery) is to use an insole. These help immensely, regardless of whether you have an injury or not. I've used ones that fit general foot types (check out the Superfeet insoles on our website, some of our playtesters use them), as well as custom made ones. I just find that they provide extra support that we can't sometimes find in the general-fit of every shoe. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

Siobhan,

Thanks for your reply bu there is one other question for you or one of the other TW staff (perhaps the TW buyer). Do you know of plans by any company to release a new mid-cut or high-cut tennis shoe? My podiatrist has just raised the heel on my orthotic to the point where I don't get enough achilles support from my regular tennis shoe (and the Prince QT Scream is quite a deep shoe, deeper than the Barricade). So I need a mid or high cut to compensate. The best options would be the Prince Viper II or VI but they're out of stock in size 12 and TW doesn't know if they can get new supply. The Kswiss Monfils and the Prince T22 flex in the mid-foot which is no good for me and I assume the Kswiss Ascendor will flex in the same place as the Monfils. So I need a replacement (assuming the Prince isn't re-stocked) for the Viper range. Any ideas or info ?
