~Adidas CC Genius Initial Impressions~

Bought the all silver colorway and have been wearing them around the house all morning (on carpet) so here are my initial impressions

Fit: Width is abit narrower than medium but for me, it makes a very nice snug fit around the arches and heel. Arch support is medium high; I don't notice anything about it being slightly forward though. Length is slightly short but nothing bad comes out of it. However, the toe-box is kind of narrow so for those with wider feet or those who like roomy toe-boxes, this shoe is probably not for you.I would like is a touch more room in the toe-box as it is abit narrow but other than that, the fit is very nice. I'm wondering if there will be abit more space once the shoe is broken in.

Materials:
The entire outside covering of the shoe is plastic so I bett here won't really be getting dirty. Or if they do, they will be easy to clean. Other people have noted that this shoe feels stiff out of the box but I have not really noticed any stiffness. The front and medial (inner) sides of the shoe have a thicker plastic.

Design: The large amount of plastic (or whatever it is) makes the shoe feel incredibly stable. There are numerous perforations all over the shoe to increase ventilation and the tongue is mesh. In addition, there is a ventilation system built into the bottom of the shoe and the insole has peforations to allow air to enter from the bottom of the shoe. This probably also would allow water (and dirty) to get in though. I wouldn't recommend this for clay courters if they don't want clay getting into their shoes. But since I'm a hard court player, I think its a nice addition

The eyelets though don't seem very sturdy because they aren't enforced. In fact they are just fabric straps that you feed the laces through. The first 2 eyelets and last one on the lateral side have metal rings though. Also, the last eyelet on the medial side is kind of strange in that you have to feed the lace upward. The while it holds the lace tightly so if your shoe-laces come undone during a point they won't loosen up too quickly, it isn't reinforced so I'm questioning it's durability; I think all top eyelets should be reinforced because that's where the laces get stressed the most.

UPDATE: The narrowness of the shoe is kind of annoying. I can lace it loosely but that I'm still kind of worried about my toes/side of my foot getting hurt when playing. Also, the cushioning don't seem to be very good. I'm starting to feel some pain in the heel.

UPDATE: Went up 1/2 a size and they are just too narrow in the toebox. Will just wait for my BV replacements to come back

That's all I can think of at the moment. I might go 1/2 a size up to see if it helps with the narrow toebox.

Thanks for reading

Having worn through my initial pair and worn them for three months, hopefully I can shed some more light on these shoes.

Fit: yes, they're narrow. Since I have a narrow foot, not a problem for me. The cool thing about the short toe box is that it is also high, so even with my toes near the front of the shoe I never ripped a big toenail off, which is a problem in shoes without all that vertical clearance up front. Nice thing for me is that, even once broken in, the shoes lost none of their shape.

Materials: yes, the outside is "plasticky." The shoe stays pretty stiff throughout, with a little break in happening. Very durable material.

Design: agreed, they're incredibly stable. Not having them at the moment and having to wear my Barricade II, Oscillates, and Team All Court III's, I am missing the stability. That stability really seems to enhance my footwork. Also, the ventilation is better than any of the other shoes I mentioned, much better.

As for the eyelets, they remained intact longer than the outsole, and show no signs of wear at this point. Since I'm sending them in for the replacement warranty, I think they held up just fine. That last eyelet design helps when lacing tightly, as it holds the lace a bit. Also, it did prove durable and to continue holding the lace for the entire 3 months just like new.

The CC Genius is definitely a durability/support shoe, and not really a "cushioning" shoe. My Barricade IIs are softer, by comparison. Also, definitely a narrow shoe that will not get any wider because of the materials. Having a narrow foot, this wasn't an issue for me.

Bottom line: I'm addicted to the quickness and grip of these shoes. They lasted as long for me as the Barricade II. They do seem to be canted slightly forward, which is good as I will relax back on my heels otherwise.

My favorite shoe to date, but the sample's not that big (Oscillate, Barricade II, CC Boom Edge, Team All Court III). Still, unless adidas gets rid of this shoe I don't see myself buying anything else for my narrow, high-arched foot. I think this may be the best stability shoe on the market.

Ok I'm gonna go up 1/2 a size and see how that works out

Curious about your results. I have the impression that going a 1/2 size up will not increase the width enough and will just move the arch to an uncomfortable place. Please post once you get them exchanged.

I had two pairs of these and they were horrible.

They dig into your pinky toe area due to the plastic outside pieces. This has happened to me and a few others I know.

To their credit, I sent mine back to adidas because of this problem and they gave me a $130 voucher for adidas.com.

If/when they start tearing up the side of your foot just send them back and get barricades.

Thanks for the extra feedback. Yeah I'm kind of worried about the arch moving up as well but it's worth a shot. I'll get back to you on the when I get them back (Wednesday; it's Sunday where I am)

Thanks for the advice. I'll remember that if I have any problems, provided if going 1/2 a size up helps. If it doesn't, I'll be looking into another shoe. Already tried the BVs, gonna look into another shoe

Just got 1/2 a size up and unfortunately it didn't help. I really wanted to use this shoe but the narrowness in the toebox really kills it for me. Started having some pain on the sides of my feet after walking around the house. I'll just wait for my BVs to come back. Hopefully they'll give me a pair of B6 ;). Prob not since there are new colorways for the spring

Hopefully Adidas will sort out the cushioning on the 2's and i might get a pair.

The Genius 2's look more supportive, more durable an far more comfy.

Hard to imagine how they could be more supportive. What do you mean? Most stable shoe I've ever had on my feet, much more stable and quick than the Barricade II, which has a similar fit though not quite as narrow.

I think that's the reason for all the whining about this shoe. The upper just doesn't break down at all. Stayed rock solid for three months. Sending in for replacement. I've never had another pair of shoes last longer or maintain their stability right up to the end.

shaolin,

sounds like you need to go up a 1/2 size, or your feet arent suited to them, not that the shoes are bad.

You could be right. I went up to 12.5 in barricades and they seem to fit better. Maybe adidas run small or something, or somehow my feet are still growing.

Thanks for the great reviews

I just ordered the full red Djokovic masters version from adidas. I have small narrow feet so it's great to know that they'll fit fine. I ordered the Oudin special editions in narrow from miadidas.com and they fit and feel great. This is coming from a lifelong Nike shoe person. Good to know that another manufacturer makes quality products.

Just ordered some CC Genius shoes. The Vapors just arent durable enough for me anymore. I think I went trough 4 or 5 pairs in a year. I cant stand that jacked up heel feel of the Ballistecs. If the Geniuses arent comfortable enough I will switch to the Barricades. Surely all these rave reviews about adidas are true. Any thoughts on this progression of shoes?

If you have narrow feet including in the forefoot, then these should fit fine. I'm not sure how much comfort you might get but surely if you use a different insole, that problem should be fixed

I use Spenco Total Supports and those are about $30 bucks but the Spenco Crosstrainers available from TW look pretty good if you're just looking for extra comfort. I used the Total Supports more for getting a better fit (heat moldable) but they also did provide a good amount of comfort. There are a couple of threads on good insoles if you just search it.
