Adidas Fast 4 Challenge Event and Boost Barricade review

So not to brag, OK maybe a little, but had a chance to play in this amazing Adidas event in Atlanta last night. (This almost makes up for ONLY having a 3rd tier ATP event in what is Mecca for adult tennis leagues)

Anyway, it was a free one night doubles tournie where you played to 4 games (Fast 4). The ridiculous part is the super generous gift bag. All players received a pair of Boost Barricades, a pair of Boost running shoes (not sure of the exact model), 2 Climachill shirts, shorts, hat, bag, and socks, oh and they had a taco truck for free food to boot. To quote the younger set, it was pretty epic.

I asked and they said they may repeat this in other cities so if you hear of it, JUMP ON IT!!! I found out through an email from our tennis scheduling site (Tennispoint) and almost ignored it.

As for the shoes, you could say I'm not unbiased given Adidas' generosity BUT honestly the hype on these things is for real. Unlike my Barricade 8's there was 0(!) break-in and they were super light and comfy throughout. Having worn them for 2 hours I can't really speak to the durability but it is a Barricade so I expect this shoe could be the holy grail -- a lightweight, comfortable shoe with excellent durability. Time will tell. These will be my singles shoes with my Barricade 8's moving to my doubles shoes until I wear those out (not anytime soon).

I've been playing for about 3.5 years now and am a solid 3.5 player. Here's how I'd rank the shoes I've used:
Brand & Shoe (colorway) : Comfort / Durability / Support / Looks
1) Adidas Boost Barricade (green):10 / 9* / 9 / 8
2) Adidas Barricade 8 (solar blue): 6 /10 /10 / 9
3) Nike Breathe 2K12 (white) : 7 / 6 / 9 / 10
4) Nike CourtBallistec 2.3 (white): 5 /9 / 9 / 5
5) Nike City Court (white) : 9 / 6 / 5 / 4
* expected (I just can't believe these will be QUITE as durable as the 8's which are tanks in every sense of the word)

I played in the Atlanta event tonight and it was awesome!.. I wear Nike Vapor 9.5's religiously but really liked the Barricade shoe. The shoes were really cushy. So thankful a buddy signed me up for this event.

This was the gift bag for each player. I played in a golf tourney sponsored by Adidas and I thought the gift bag was the mother load, but this takes the cake!

your pic left out the small tote bag.

I played on Tuesday as well; do you know if they posted the pictures anywhere? I was too beat to think about going through the photos they had on the tablets.

How does the Boost compare to the Vapor 9.5s in comfort, low to ground feel, and support? I am a long time Vapor fan but will switch if these provide the same as the Vapor but with added cushioning and less fatigue?

Very cool promotion indeed!

I'm surprised to see Courtballistec 2.3 rated as 5/10 for comfort on your rating. Makes the other ratings also questionable. What is your foot type or shape?

The 2.3 were one of the most plush, soft, cushioned and comfortable shoe in the Nadal Breathe Free/Breathe Cage/CourtBallistec/Lunar Ballistec lines. The following 3.3 were less comfortable, more stiff immediately after.

Ok, wearing one of each right now.

Both size 10.5
--The Boost is more snug then the Vapor, midfoot area.
--The Boost is a little more snug in the forefoot, but not bad.
--The Vapor 9.5 feels lower to the ground and more of a flat arch
--The Boost has a more pronounced arch and feels higher to the ground.
--The Boost feels more cushiony but a little more bulky

I haven't worn the Boost again since that first night. When I actually can get out and practice, I will bring both pairs in order to get an actual court comparison. I did play 2 hours the only time wearing the Boost, I did notice a little knee pain the next day, nothing major at all. I think it was likely because the shoe is different than what i'm used to, I have flat feet and the Boost has a small arch. They were very comfy on court though. I just love my Vapors so much I haven't taken the time to test the Boost more yet.

I used Google Images and now I see those were actually CB 1.3's instead of 2.3's (was never sure as I bought them unboxed at a local warehouse/clearance sale) not sure if that makes a difference in your opinion. My opinion is that those CB's (1.3) were the only shoes I've worn where I experienced significant knee and hip soreness the day after a hard court singles match. Furthermore, I was including weight/feel in the comfort category and those felt clunky/heavy, at least again IMHO.

Excellent! That makes a huge difference in the opinion. I totally agree about the 1.3s then. 2.3 would feel a lot better in comparison and rival the boosts depending on your foot shape. I believe the 1.3s tongue says 1.3 in small font in case you still own the shoes and wanted to take a look.
