Adidas Ubersonic 4 Thread

I wear both the SCB and U4s. The SCB do feel too wide/roomy but not to the point where they're unwearable. Good shoe for coaching in because of all the cushioning. U4s are a much better shoe though imo.

I am on the fence about these, but I guess I will just have to see how they fit me. I was (and still am) quite happy with the SCB, but they are getting discontinued from what I can see, so it is inevitable that I move on to something else. No rush though, I still have 2 pairs of Ü2s, 3 Ü3s and a couple of SCBs.

Just curious why you think SCB is being discontinued? They released 2 new colors (both are pretty cool imo).

I def recommend trying the U4s. Great shoe except for the issue with the bridge/toe joint which goes away after awhile.

I am not sure, but I read somewhere that there is no SCB beyond the Summer season. At the moment I cannot recall where I read that, but it must have been in a conversation discussing the catalogue of the company going forward. It somewhat coincides with the pending re-release of the Barricade line, so maybe that is it.

Personally I think that the Barricades and the SCBs are very different shoes in many aspects, but they share a lot of similarities too (stable, cushioned), so I can see them competing against each other somewhat. The new colour ways are not my cup of tea, but enough people seem to like them. I will be stocking up on the AO colour way and hope that the line continues. Other than that I am going to buy the Ü4s at some point soon (as my other speed shoes for clay courts are sprayed between several other locations and I don't have such a shoe at home, which I will need in another month and a half. Currently playing on RA indoors).

Hope they don't discontinue the SCB but if they do I hope they replace it with another really cushiony model. I agree with you about the Barricade being stable but it's one of the least cushioned shoes I've ever worn. They're miserable torture devices for the feet imo. I gave up on Adidas because of the barricade actually.

Yeah, I was about to make a more detailed distinction in the cushioning department, but decided that it is just too much detail to discuss. They improved the cushioning of the model by putting the Boost in the heel, but never really put something else (other than Adiprene) in the forefoot. Then again, I have seen people complain about the cushioning of the SCB at the front too, and I don't feel it, so opinions will vary on these matters.

The new Barrcade looked like there is a decent amount of midsole to them, and IMO that midsole will be either Bounce or Lightstrike: both can be made quite comfortable. We will see.

I love the yellow. I never need a flashlight at night.

lol. I have them also...a constant glowing reminder to move my feet.

I like them but would like some other mostly white variations. I ordered the parley ones. I saw a catalog where there is a white with red heel coming but I think that comes out in the Fall.

I bought the Halo blue ones but my OCD couldn't deal with them. I hate colors that you can't tell what color it is no matter how long you look at it. The Halo Blue is too grey to be blue but too blue to be grey.

I agree with you. I have a pair of the Parley's, which are awesome. It was hardly available though, felt lucky to get it. It feels like Adidas kinda butchered the rollout of this shoe when it came to colorways. The zebra/secret colorway was cool-ish to launch, I get that, but gotta have a normal color ready to go pretty quickly. No white/black combo, no red, no (normal) blue-ish colors. Like.... wtf.

My wife thought those were baby blue and advised against. It was hard to tell by the pics.

I like them too but I think they are just a clay version. They don't have clay courts in my state :(

Plenty of clay here in Atlanta, GA, but it's pricey. Mostly private clubs and such so not much access. It's also not well maintained so it kinda sucks.

Shame you don't have any.

It's kinda more of a minty green with numerous splashes of brown specks. The brown is more like muddy sand brown, off of a beach. It's as if a Mint Oreo milkshake was an outsole. Not sure if that helps or hurts its case, but close as I got, lol.

I probably would have kept them if they were baby blue. They are on the razor's edge of blue and grey.

I miss clay a lot. But I'm not complaining much, I teach/play on some of the best indoor courts in my state.

I agree, they messed up launch pretty badly, color-wise. Wild color ways are great but have some more conservative ones also.

Don't know what they are thinking with the MiaPulco bright orange color. They have that hideous thing but not a black or white one? Idiocy.

Well, up until now they have the Parley, the two AO colour ways, the "Tropical" (puke), the violet/blue/black/orange (puke puke) version outside of the "secret" colour way.

I am not a fan of some of these, but isn't it a bit over the top, considering that that is already a huge number (6) of colour ways in a matter of 3 months?

So far the only Uber4 colorways have been:

Zebra (no longer available)
Parley (not avail at TW or even most of their competitors from what I've seen)
Neon yellow
Neon orange/magenta (hideous)
''Halo Blue'' weird colorway
A new mostly black version is going to be released but only for clay.

Currently TW only has the yellow and orange for sale.

That is really weak from Adidas IMO. The U4 is a great shoe but there is practically no choice for colors.

Maybe the issue is that you are looking only in one place for the available colour ways, or maybe Adidas offers less colour ways where you are, but right now I can buy all colour ways (including the Parley and the Camo version, which is accidentally is available in my size along with only one other).

I have to correct myself here, the black/violet/blue/orange version is not available for the Ü4. It is available for the SCB, Stycon and the Defiant Generation, which is what I have probably seen and wrongly remembered to be a Ü4 colour way.

In any event, in Europe 4 colour ways, including the Parley version, are available. I would say for a 3 month old shoe that is plenty, even if the colours are on the brighter side. Not a surprise, considering that they always do something like that for AO.

Anyway, hopefully they will cover that also with some more sedated colour ways. I myself am not a big fan of bright coloured shoes, although the "indefinite" colour and the Parleys both work, I guess. A dark blue or a dark grey colour would be more preferable. Light coloured shoes don't take clay very well.

And their clay one is pretty awful. Sth between white and light blue/grey. Adidas used to have the best conservative PJs. Now they are mimicking ASICS. I hope they won’t copy also Nike to their clowny clothes too.

Finally played in a demo of the 4s. Unexpectedly, the tops of the 4s hard plastic bends just over the 1st metatarsal directly into the forefoot on every step. It also bruise X's at top of the lateral & middle cuneiform as expected.

... and to answer all comments above:
  1. The #1 complaint in the 3s was the shifting in the back of heel as well as in tow box that was too big and provided shifting as well.
  2. It's good to see Coria wearing the 4's. Although it's after already being shunned by other players – & it's Coria and clay.
  3. At the same time I'm already getting complaints about the 1st Metararsal hard plastic on the 4s.
  4. marslondon & curtstead mentioned above they liked the softer feel of the 2's and noticed the hard plastic above the 1st metatarsal in the 4's as well, "very slight forefoot soreness in matches for a while" but it softened up. I'd like to hear more from these guys. "You almost took them back but didn't." I really want to like this shoe but I'm not sacrificing comfort and support to get there. The U2 obviously feel great off the shelf. How long does this warm-up time take? cuz they really hurt as you know.
  5. StefanosWillSaveTheWorld mentioned some players wearing holes in them after a month? is this true? in which case a month to break them in? and then?
  6. As of now, Zerev and Evens are not budging. New sponsor: Felix, who def had options, didn't pick up the 4's, he picked up the SoleCourts instead. Went the Tsitapas route. Little more sturdy and boot like.
  7. SinneGOAT thanks.

They're great shoes but I don't understand why Adidas thought releasing these with the hard plastic thing right at the bend of the toe on top was a good idea?? It serves no purpose anyway and is extremely annoying until it is broken in. As said in my other post I almost sent them back after walking around in them at home. If I tried them on in a store and walked around I definitely would not have bought them. I have a theory that Adidas doesn't playtest shoes, they just design them on a computer and if they work they work. I've had so many problematic Adidas shoes and pretty much none with Nike/Asics.

Anyway I think the U4 is a good shoe but I don't think we will see this iteration last long with that plastic top of the foot issue.

I'm one of the few that didn't have soreness from the plastic piece above the metatarsal, but I've definitely heard that complaint before. I think I saw it on a YouTube review as well as here. Unfortunately, I can't tell you when or if that will resolve as I didn't get any discomfort from it. I definitely noticed a tight feeling near the plastic piece from the onset, but that went away after my first playthrough on both shoes. I could be one of the lucky few. Could just be my foot. Based on replies and reviews, I certainly hope they remove this in future iterations.

My forefoot soreness, which was only slight but also noticeable, was from what I thought was the lack of cushioning on the forefront compared to the heel. However, it went away after a few matches to the point where it's non-existent now. I guess ittook a few playthroughs to really break in for me. I've had zero issues when it comes to comfort since then, with the lightstrike unit being pretty plush IMO since opening the box. I haven't had any stability issues since I first got them. Feel like I didn't help much, sorry. If I were you, I'd stick with the Uber 2s, wherever you can still find them.

I don’t actually own the U4s yet. I was just enquiring. I agree with everything you’ve said. I’ll be interested to see how these pan out in the long run. For now I’m holding off and I’ll continue with my U2’s for now. I do find it odd that none of the top, most visible pros have taken them on. That says something to me. Zverev still wearing last years US Open U2’s. I find it hard to believe Adidas can’t produce a new shoe for him. I’m sure there’s a lot about them that are good but I’m partly hoping they’ll end up bringing back the U2’s, which is what happened it seems after the U3s didn’t quite land for everyone.

As much as I love the U4's, this is the right solution to me as well. Continue the U2's until they get it right for everyone. They weren't even close with the 3's, but 4's at least a step in the right direction, IMO.

Has anyone experienced ankle pain while wearing their U4s? I thought they felt great for the first 2 weeks, then suddenly I started feeling intense discomfort in the area of my inner ankle pretty much any time I put the shoes on (it was especially prevalent on deep split steps). It's almost like the topline of the bootie hardened as the rest of the shoe broke in. I simply can't play with them anymore. Either it's the shoe or I wore down that area in every single pair of my socks...

I use adizero Clubs as my practice shoe and they've never given me such an issue - neither did the U2s, which remain my overall favorites.

Been playing with them for a few weeks. No issues on my ankles. The only tiny issue is where the forefoot bends when I step -- I think the rubber/plastic folds and pinches against my foot -- but, it only seems to be when I am first walking on the court with them -- and, it doesn't happen every step -- after I move around, I don't notice it.

When are they going to add more Cool looking colors ?? currently all there is these odd ugly colors that make you want to throw away the shoes because color is blinding you into making unforced errors

I asked TW and I believe they said not until June unfortunately.

You can get the white Parley version on the adidas website though.

I apologize if this has already been asked but I didn’t find the answer in search - have the 2s officially been discontinued? Wondering if I should start stocking up on them.

I have to ask this question,,, Why is it that i can't find any pros using this shoes yet ????? but i am finding many pros still using the Ubersonic 2's though............:unsure:

You should ALWAYS stock up on shoes you like regardless of if they have been discontinued. TO answer your question... I believe so. The fact that no new ones came out in 2021 is telling.

They are betting on the 4 moving forward. I think releasing the 2 was admitting that the 3 sucked but theyre gonna do better with the 4

So I still love my Uber 4s, but I am starting to get that significant creasing in the Lightstrike midsole. I’ve only been wearing these two pairs just over 2 months and haven’t played as much lately as I was, so that is becoming a concern...

Anyone else noticing the midsole bottoming out early? 2-3 months seems insanely fast to me. I’ve had plenty of fun with these as you can tell, but will be less likely to recommend them moving forward if the durability of the midsole is pretty inferior to the outsole. Outsole is holding up much longer than I thought, so it’s a different durability concern that we’re dealing with here.

I’m noticing significant creasing in both of my pairs, not just one of them. I don’t feel completely nothing upon planting, jump stepping, or cutting, but the energy return is def not what it was a couple weeks ago.

Got these recently and after more then 15h of play, they still feel narrow at the crease. I've always played Adidas, mostly Barricades, and this is the first time I remember having sizing issues with their shoes. Not only they are narrow, but the crease itself creates some discomfort when bending the foot.
I also find the "sock" to be too tight. This makes it getting in and out more difficult than needed. If I knew, probably would've gotten a 1/2 size larger.
Unfortunately I'm out of the return period so I'll have to live with them, probably not play with them, until I get something else.

Don't buy these shoes:
I got a pair of the orange ones about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I am completely through them already. Holes started to form on the bottoms after a week and by the doubleheader, I played a couple of days ago they are probably two-quarters big and the upper is separated. Worst durability I have ever seen in an Adidas shoe. I will post some pictures later.

Sebi Korda was rocking (what appeared to be) bright pink Uber2's at Miami - were those the old Tokyo model? Adidas must have had to fish WAY back in the warehouse for those. Maybe they'll take the hint and re-release? *wishful thinking*

Yep, Tokyo colorway. It's the last pair of Uber 2's I bought.

Agreed. Not happy with the durability on these.

i agree, they wear out fast but the cushioning does too. If your tread is worn out in just few weeks, it's time to throw it out anyway. My tread is ok, not bad but the cushioning feels dead flat after 6 weeks, so i am getting a new one. Good business for TW anyway.

Hate to say it but I'm done with both of my pairs already. No energy return whatsoever now cause the lightstrike cushion is basically dead in my parley's, and almost gone in my Top Secret colorway pair. Outsole has been fine for me, but I'm not an aggressive mover either.

Man, this sucks. The first couple months in this shoe were pretty great. But can't recommend anymore if the cushioning is going to give out this quickly.

Am currently trying out Mad Lad's new Lacoste shoe anyways.

How long did it take for the Lightstrike cushion go dead on you ??
