Adidas Ubersonic 4 Thread

Yep, some of the time. My club has clay and hard courts so it’s about 50% on clay for me. I’ve been wearing the black/orange U2’s from last year, but they’re feeling a bit worn out.

do you think that Clay court version works ok and is fine to play with on hard court as well ? Have you tried it ?

I don’t think I’ve ever used my clay shoes on the hard court, maybe once when we got moved! I tend to use the right shoes for the right surface. That said, I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable with clay shoes on a hard court, not enough flat areas for contact. But hard court on clay would probably be fine.

I played in them last night for the first time. Of course it’s hard to say on 2 hours wear. Didn’t love them initially vs my U2’s. But undoubtedly more ‘bounce’, especially under the heel. They felt tight across the lace area, and I really don’t like the way they lace up, very hard to adjust, and did at times feel painful across the top of my foot. But once I’d loosened them up a bit they were better. I’m just hoping that doesn’t compromise the fit in tougher matches. I would probably consider changing the laces for something softer. Certainly different from the 2s. Hopefully they’ll bed in a bit after a few wears.

I am very impressed with the mid and heel area cushioning of U4s. Sooo plush and soft in such a lightweight shoe. Kudos to adidas….. it’s a step forward in terms of fit/lockdown compared to U3s but still not at U2’s divine fit. My main 2 concerns is durability (if they will last after so many user reports of quick wear) and i would prefer that it had thicker laces… I also feel some minor discomfort on the front/upper part. Definitely a keeper and my next goto shoe. Now Adidas should bring black colorways also for hard courts.

Do you know what other color will be on the mostly white ones? I’m hoping it’s not black.

A TW customer service rep told me that the Ubersonic 4s are discontinued and will not be back in stock. I presume this was a mistake. But thought I would throw it out here in case others have heard anything similar.

Yea the new trainees sometimes mistake being out of stock as model being discontinued. Why ? they make that mistake if there is no definite near future date of when the new colors are coming in.

These are men’s. They look like an electric blue colour to me. There’s also another one, which I think matches the colour from the original unearthed photos. White, with what looks like a dark pink/red colour on the heel. (Sorry, can’t figure out how to add a photo!)

Any idea when these colorways will be released?

I had the black delivered today from Adidas. They ddn't have the black& red. The U4 had risen to to of my rotation with GZr8 and Vapor Cage. Depends on how my feet feel, but the U4 offer the right mix of speed, breathability, and comfort.

some nice colors but i still want that Red and Black in hard court version. Also man, uber 4 wears out fast. bottom sole in heel region is wearing out fast, and i only broke out these new Zebra pair i got about 3 weeks ago. lol

It's been a while, but very happy to read up on this abomination of a tennis shoe from Adidas. It seems pretty unanimous from reading 9 pages of posts about all the pain this shoe has caused that it is not winning any people's choice awards. Funny that the business of selling shoes isn't releasing a better shoe or admitting that they already have, it's double down on marketing, colors, and having more conversations with pros that don't want to wear them in the first place.

In the meantime, I'm up to 16 pairs of Uber2's now and it's still not enough. I know there are some U2 fans out there that aren't U4 fans, would you be interested in a "design-your-own" U2 re-release by Adidas? This would be a lot easier to buy from Adidas themselves. Certainly, they can sell 2's and 4's alongside each other right?

It isn’t a very good shoe unfortunately. I have played in adidas for over 20 years, with some other brands mixed in as well. The Uber 4’s have poor forefoot cushioning and the outsole isn’t durable at all. The tongue is way too thin causing pain when you tighten them up for match play. The Uber 2’s are far better. My adidas favorites of all time were the Barricade 2’s and the Ultimate from way back.

Sad what adidas has become…. Hope the new Barricades are good, because they have nothing else. Are they even trying anymore?

I have to say that I really enjoy my Ubersonic 4!

They have a great fit, even for my rather wide feet and high arch. Ventilation is great, I hate it when I get hot feet after a couple of games. These prevent that.
Also nice cushioning, not too much so you still have a "fast" shoe. (quite opposite to the Court FF2 which are rather clunky)

Only bad thing is durability. I play rather often (5-6x per week) and these last me around 8-10 weeks. That is not a lot for such a high prices shoe. Already use my third pair this summer season (that started end of April)

Other than that, I am very happy with them

I agree. i only wish side to side stabilizer would give me more energy when changing directions. and those Laces are too thin. I tried to change them but once i take the lace off,,, It is IMPOSSIBLE to put them back in. I advise you don't take the laces out

You’re so right! I changed the laces in mine for the same reason, and they are the hardest laces to thread I’ve ever had. I’ve no idea how they managed to make them so difficult!

But were you able to put the laces back in ? if so, how did you do it. I am still struggling to put the new laces in,, i am just afraid i might damage the holes of fabric because it is so tough to get the lace thru the holes

I did manage to put new laces in that are a bit thicker. It took me a long time though and I really had to bend the eyelets to get enough space to thread them through. I may have used a tool to pull them through! I can’t really remember.

I can't do it using my fingers, i am trying right now. I may have to buy a small thin plier like this to put the laces thru. this is getting ridiculous

I can’t help but notice that both Seb Korda and Dan Evans are still wearing their U2’s from last year. They clearly don’t want to make the switch, and Dan Evans has tried the U4s on clay earlier this year. It’s seriously putting me off going all in on the U4s… the U2’s really are the best shoe I’ve owned. Pity they couldn’t just make some minor updates to it.

I was diggin the red to white fade Uber 4s but now I'm not seeing them? Weird.

Might give them a try. Although I also want to see if there are any nice blue/black colorways coming to match the current kits.
