Money changed his views, but before money there was Adidas.

Yeahhh , the podcast wasn't great. I don't understand why these companies cant give a few nuggets of info about some pro players. Something like "Zverev didnt like the uber 3 because of x, y and z". Michelle was trying but these stiffs wouldnt budge... Looking forward to the shoe though! The uber 2 is still my favorite "walking around" tennis shoe.

The problem is not whether they "give a few nuggets", that is largely of no interest, as the requirements of the pro players are mostly vastly different than those of the rec players, and the level of customisation done for them is not accessible to the ordinary customers.

The problem is that they don't/didn't give even basic info what to expect. An info that is neither very secret, nor very hard to obtain: what is the drop of the shoe heel to toe, how wide the shoe is compared to Ü2 and Ü3? Which of those will be phased out? A comparison of the Lightstrike with the existing cushionings from Adidas.

The thread about questions about that shoe was pretty long and many questions were asked. None of that was answered. It was basically an ad with a bit of chat of how wonderful the whole thing is.

yeah. The previous page of this thread has a link to the product page bc they’re listed on Adidas as coming 12/1 now. Seamless, sock style upper
It is Booty construction, but it isn't that bad to get into. i had worse from Nike. i am sure it is similar or better to booty of Uber2.

they did give some information on this new LightStrike cushioning though. They said it is Plush out of the box but it is Firm cushioning. LOL. That statement confuses me:po_O

Agree. Still would've liked some nuggets about the pro players though.. these people have access to them that none of us have. When the shoe comes out in a few days, we'll be able to talk about heel to toe drop, width, etc on this forum all day long..

i do know that Stepanoe didn't like it. He tried it for one match and didn't wear it again in the following matches. Went back to his Boost

So? Even I wanted to know why Zverev didn’t like the Uber 3 or some behind the scenes stuff with pros.

You want a show while the people that are interested in the actual product that is being talked about are interested to know things that concern their choices. Talking about Tsitsipas's personal needs doesn't give me any information. I am a regular user of Ü2s and Ü3s and what someone thinks about them will not change my perception. It is literally an empty talk.

See the above. I prefer to hear from the actual manufacturer what the dimensions of the shoe are, what is the last, how the shoe fits. These guys have all the measurements and models. Reading subjective experiences of people with different feet, with skewed perception what is what is so much waste of time, and could still lead to a wrong idea about how the shoe fits (plenty of people that talk about things they have never tried or talk a product down because they like/don't "brands"). I mean in 40 minutes apart from some vague talk and the explanations about the colour way there was literally NOTHING. It was a disaster.

I think they meant that the cushioning in the heel is plush as you walk from heel to toe. But overall, it's a firm and stable, low to the ground cushioning.

Why is the fit of the Ubersonic 4 such a big secret? Seems like TW and Adidas have been avoiding this question despite a number of people asking.

Apologies some of you guys didn't enjoy the podcast! As you can imagine, hands can be tied when working with big companies like adidas and others! Definitely tried to juice out as much as we could that would be approved by the company for your listening pleasure :) And, we will have a playtester episode soon that might have more of what you are looking for in terms of testing feedback. What I can say, everyone who has worn this update, is enjoying these shoes...a lot.

Also, if you are interested in learning more about Lightstrike, look to the running shoes...this technology has been worn by many adidas runners and is not "new" just new to tennis: https://www.runningwarehouse.com/adidas_adizero_Pro/descpage-AAPW1S1.html
and if you are familiar with running shoes, know that "firm" also often translates into responsive while "plush" can be more mushy and comfortable, but not as speedy or fast.

As for the fit, the shoe is on the same last as the Uber2, so expect that fit -- don't think anyone is avoiding this question, just only a couple people have had a chance to fit test and wear it.

Hope that helps,
Michelle, TW

Again, we will have a playtester episode soon that might have more of what you are looking for in terms of testing feedback. Thanks for taking the time to respond further, Michelle!

Yes, it is on the Adidas guys to open themselves to questions and deliver info. Still very helpful to know that they will be like the Ü2s. Interesting how they will develop their speed shoes lines further. They remove from the market the Ü3 which is the wider last, and leave two shoes on the same last. Bizarre.

What makes you think they will continue with the U2s? It wouldn't surprise me if they killed off the U2 and the U3. What they "should" do is offer the U4s in both the standard width and a wide version. Very difficult to make one version for all the different foot types. This would at least address the bulk of them. IMHO.

Well, they barely have anything from the Ü3s, but still offer Ü2s in several colours, so that is what I mean by leaving them. I am sure that they will discontinue the Ü2s too, just they haven't done it now, but are discontinuing the wider option.

What you say would be obviously a solution of some sort, although I am not sure that the Ü2 last lends itself well to being extended as a wide option. There is a difference between having a wide toe box and normal mid foot and back foot last like the Ü3s and a "wide" option. The Ü2 has a different shape of the toe box, and simply widening the shoe will create the situation, where a wide foot still has relatively little space at the toe box.

IMO, the discontinuation of the Ü3 didn't make sense: it was an excellent shoe distinctly different from Ü2. Maybe it didn't sell well, but I never saw too many options offered and they were almost always sold out in the most popular sizes. Especially the clay versions were hard to come by on anything other that almost full retail price. So, they removed an excellent top tier shoe, but at the same time have, what 4 other low tier lines (Defiant Generation, SoleMatch Bounce, CourtJam Bounce, and the AdizeroClub).

I've only just finished listening to this episode. Thanks for taking the time to assemble such an interesting selection of guests and also survey TTW people for questions beforehand.

A lot of us on here really enjoyed the Ubersonic 3 and also love the Lightstrike cushioning in the Adidas basketball lines, so this shoe is much anticipated!

It was great to have some more "insider" information about Ubersonic 4 to parse as the release date approached. Thanks again.

Hello @TW Staff Enjoyed all of the pre-launch coverage for this shoe.

Sorry if you’ve answered this already, but when are additional colorways being released for the U4 ?

I’m sure Adidas will roll out pro stuff for Australian Open. Is there an official date from Adidas for retail release?

Thanks.

I just saw the Uber4's on the Tennis only website.... the color scheme...... no matter how good they might might be, they are in now appealing in appearance to me. The Stycon colors here in Australia were not great either, but the still look a lot better than the Uber4's IMO

There are some great colourways on the way for these shoes.

It really depends on what you are after, but I've noticed a lot of the upcoming colourways are fairly conservative in contrast to the bespoke camouflage style "dazzle pattern" first colourway and look pretty good.

Outside of rhe colourway, do you like the silhouette of the Uber4?

Generally it look ok, but the Blck/White strip camo color scheme, you cant really tell that much, I think alternate color option would likely look better and give a better idea of the design and features. Personally something a lil more subtle would be more appealing.

Mind you i'd grab another pair of Air Tech Challeng 2's again in a heartbeat, loved these when i had them back in the day. But heck i'd also with K-Swiss would re-do the Old Si-18s with modern features as those were not the lighest shoe, but these we tough. solid and stable, with damn good cushioning. I also had the 7.0 Protector high cuts, now those were brilliant. Isnt it amazing how so many good shoes/ideas are lost in the name of "progress" lol

They look hideous, but I'd still buy them if they came with wider forefoot of the ubersonic 3.

Do people really buy shoes on the basis of appearance rather than comfort?

Like yourself I need a wider forefoot, but if they are going to make a "hero" colorway, can they at least give us another they we don't have to look like we are a Pro Player clone all the time.

I know here in Australia, due to ur smaller market size, we are even lucky to get one color option let alone two. but i think many would be turned away from what would otherwise be a great product due to what it looks like (and I say this as I spent many years in retail, and a number of those with a major brand, who i will not name, where I was in their outlet store, and the number of items we got that wouldn't sell due to the color options we many.

I'm not saying make them plain white, or black, just give an alternative to something that is highly patterned,

All Stycon colours were great, and "clean" looking, so it is difficult to understand the contradiction of you wanting "clean" looking shoes (regarding the Ü4s) and the effort to blast Stycon.

BTW, the launch Ü4 is designed like that to attract attention to the new model. If you listened to the podcast you will know why. There will be plenty of "regular" colour options. That is not the intended design language going forward, but that is obvious, isn't it?

Unfortunately they will not have the fit of the Ü3s. Michelle from TW already confirmed that they will be like the Ü2s.

Adidas better step up their game and return the Ü3s in some form, because the wide footed population is left only with one shoe with wide enough toe box , and it is not a speed shoe, which many of us prefer.

Hi Man, iI wasn't so much blasting the Stycon, more that we only got the Grey/Green combo here in Australia and no alternative. This is common practice here. we only have 25 million ppl in Australia, and not all of those are tennis players ...lol, so we don't get 4 or 5 color option like the Nth America or Europe does. Compare how many options you see for colors of the same shoe on TW and TWE, and see the options you get here @ TennisOnly (the Aussie TW affiliate), and you will see exactly what I mean

If you mean the grey and mint Stycon, that was a very pleasant combination. As for having more options, more is better, so you can always shop in nearby countries. If people in the USA and Europe can shop from the other continent, I am sure that the Australians can shop in nearby East Asia easily (and yes, we also have customs to take care of).

Why is Adidas Australia selling the Ubersonic 4 for $40 more than Tennis Only, and not even offering half sizes like Tennis Only? That’s dumb.

Totally agree.

Seems like Adidas did listen, but not hard enough.

I can tolerate a lot of different things about a shoe but a narrow forefoot is not one of them. It causes significant discomfort and pain, and is therefore a complete deal breaker.

According to the TW product page, Ubersonic 4 is “slightly narrower than the Ubersonic 3”. Does that mean it’s the same as Ubersonic 2, or in between 2 and 3?

The expectation is likely that it should be the same as the 2 since they are built on the same last. Mine get here tomorrow and I still have an old pair of 2's knocking around somewhere so maybe I will side by side them.
