Adidas vs Nike

I always seemed to like Nike a bit more, I guess they have a more brand appeal not to mention Federer and Nadal use Nike(my 2 idols). That being said, I feel like Adidas is better, quality is just as good or maybe better in some areas, and they are not overpriced. They make better shoes and just as good apparel, and far better socks if that matters lol.

Shoes: Adidas has the best shoe - Barricade 7, and the Barricade team is lighter, cheaper, and better for people with wide feet. The feather is considered one of the best clay court shoes out their. The Vapors are good but seriously lack stability because of the lightweight design and durability is terible, what is the point of paying so much for the shoe when it will only last 3 months? Nike seems to only fit narrow feet and Adidas does a better job for peope with wide feet. Though neither are as god as Asics or NB for wide feet.

Apparel: Now this I am not 100 percent sure who makes better apparel, as far as I can see both companies make equally good aparel except Nike does two things differently, first is that they charge 15 bucks more simply because of their brand name and secondly in some of their clothes instead of 100 percent polyester like Adidas they go with 88% Polyester, 12% Spandex plain or 85 percent polyester. Does this do much?

Socks: Not a huge concern but if you look at just the basics socks, not the expensive stuff you buy in small quantities, Adidas socks are more comfortable, cheaper, and has a true-to-size fit. My nike socks were pretty comfotable at the start but then they got rough and uncomfortable, they also are a bit too big for my feet yet the package says they should fit, and of course they are slightly more expensive too just because they are Nike.

Nike seems to just get the top players, overprice their products and they know that Nadal and Federer fans will buy Nike because they use Nike.

Thoughts?

It's all personal preference as both brands are high quality. The biggest thing I like about Nike is the addition of 12% spandex, for me it makes for a far comfier fit (to answer your question). Other than that, I'll happily wear either brands track tops, shorts or shoes. I normally end up with Nike though as I get better discounts and always have a Nike warranty voucher.

I've always been an adidas guy, the shoes just fit my feet better. And I also love their response Bermuda shorts and formotion socks.

That being said, I have a pair of nike shorts that I really like. Putting a mesh gusset in shorts is a great idea. I also love their dri-fit cotton tees. 100% polyester for t-shirts bother me, but the blend of 60% cotton and 40% polyester is great.

With shoes, I tend to think that the shoe that fits you best is usually the best, but perhaps that is just due to my feet.

I'm interested that people always say that Adidas is less expensive than Nike. I don't pay a lot of attention to these brands, but is that really true?

When I'd just walk through a store, the Nike and Adidas apparel seem to be priced about the same. Perhaps the higher price is just on the Federer and Nadal stuff?

Nike will make you play more like Federer or Nadal. Adidas will make you play more like Murray. Federer and Nadal are better therfore Nike is the better product.

Duh?! I thought everyone knew this stuff.

no djokovic was actually dropped by adidas because they wanted murray and couldn't afford both. It's not about substandard because think of the likes of murray, tsonga, verdasco. They were or are top 10 players.

Exactly, They dropped Djoker (who had a major already) to pay for Murray. They only choose to endorse substandard players because thats who they want adidas consumers to idolize. This used to not be the case. They used to endorce champions like Lendl and Edberg.

This is what I heard but why can Nike afford both Rafa and Roger and Adidas afford only Murray. Don't get me wrong though, I'm a huge Murray fan.

i thought nike was a much bigger brand than adidas.. isnt that true? I mean by sales volume and size etc

and joker still wears barricades right?

I love both brands, but i prefer Adidas. I do feel like Adidas is better quality wise. I'm not only speaking about tennis but other sports (soccer for example) too. Vapor soccer cleats (yes, the same marketing strategy of "light weight speed) i used to own fell apart about a half season of use. That never happens with Adidas cleats. There are many other incidents where Nike stuff just doesn't last as long as Adidas.
That said, Nike does have sweet marketing plans and sometimes great designs. I will be on Adidas's side while buying Nike stuff at times as well.

Why did Adidas drop Djokovic?

They offered Murray a bigger contract to make him the big earner of ADIDAS, Novak then decided to sign with Sergio Tacchini. So they didn't technically drop him, it was a more mutual parting. They offered Murray $5 Million a year for the next 5 years, starting in 2010. This is on the upper end of clothing endorsements, as Federer gets around $13 Million a year from Nike, plus a million for the exhibitions he does occasionally at the end of the year.

They let Novak go because Tacchini was willing to overpay massively to get him. It's not that adidas couldn't have afforded Murray and Djokovic, had Djoko's price not been raised by the ST offer. That's my guess, anyway.

adidas has so much history in the sport...Laver, Nastase, Smith, Lendl, Edberg, Graf, BJK..it goes on and on. That's the primary reason I'm an adidas guy, though I'm glad they're not a big behemoth, throw-your-substantial-weight-around-so-you-always-get-your-way US company like Nike - that makes them appealing to me, too. And the gear is fantastic...it just is.

Adidas offered Murray the bigger contract, and Djokovic wanted to be the top dog still so he left.

Nike stuff is more crisp, Adidas is taking a beating with Federer and Nadal so the designers are using highlighter colors to try and attract attention to their clothing. Nike has bigger appeal and their stuff is simple, classy and elegant.

I wear both.

My views:

Clothes:
Nike - more expensive, clothing (hats and socks included) definitely better. more comfortable and overall higher quality.

Shoes:
Even - Adidas overall little higher quality and good durability, Nike has a better and more comfortable fit with good durability as well. Price is about equal with Nike being a little more expensive but regardless of brand I never buy full price and always look for sale/clearance items.

Historically I always went Adidas but in the last year I have been transitioning to more Nike. I really like Nike's clothing better than Adidas as it just seems a much higher overall quality and better fit for me.

I used to shy away from Nike because of their insanely high prices and then last year for my birthday my wife bought me some Nike Federer clothes. I was blown away at the quality, fit, and comfort. After that introduction I started looking for good deals on Nike clothes and have transitioned over to buying only Nike clothing/hats/socks. Speaking of socks, I really like Nike socks and honestly feel they are not overpriced for what you get.

Both are very good, Nike is more widespread in sports here in the usa, UA a relative newcomer is on the rise, Since Novak J wears UA clothes and is the undisputed No 1 in tennis, this helps UA in the tennis clothing market and Head Racquets the same, I bought some UA heat gear socks simply because Novak J wears them.

I feel like both are pretty similar but nike invests more in innovation (no seam shirts, zoom air, etc) and we end up paying for it. I find a prefer Nike but admit that Adidas has good stuff too.

I think I have a different view now, clothes I feel nike is a bit better, and shoes I also feel Nike is a bit better, Nike has Vapor, CB and 2k11, Adidas just has barricade, but I still think Nike is overpriced, couldn't Adidas do the same thing by increasing the price, but Adidas has better socks :)

Forgive me if I'm reading your post wrong but who is Novak J? Do you mean Novak D as in Djokovic? He does not wear UA, he wears Sergio Tacchini so you may want to return those socks.

what are you smoking

You can't generalize that way in either direction. Both companies have lines that appeal to younger players and lines for more conservative guys. You're telling me Nadal's clothes are simple and elegant??? And anyway, the idea is to "attract attention to (the company's) clothing"...isn't it? Nike has bigger appeal because they spend the most on endorsements and advertising, and because they're a US-based company. (And you're wrong about what happened with Djoko and Murray, I think.)

In general, Nike shoes are released at a higher price, but when their sale prices are lower than adidas shoes' sale prices. In other words, Nike has bigger sales.
For clothing, Adidas clothes are released at a significantly lower price than Nike clothes.

Im not wrong about Djoko and Murray situation.

Nadal shirts are really crisp, he just wears weird color combinations. The shirts by themselves are really cool. I was at Indian Wells and Nike was getting a lot of people visiting them and a lot of Nike merchandise was sold. Adidas had considerably less action. I noticed that a lot of people are more interested in the nike clothing that is worn by players other than Federer and Nadal. Nike spends a bunch on endorsements, but not that much on advertising. The name sells itself.

Endorsements ARE advertising.

Speaking strictly on shoes, Zoom air has been around for the past 10 years and nike air and air max has been around longer. Lunarlon bottoms out quicker than most cushioning options out there.

Nike's only recent "innovation" in shoes is flywire, which they just replaced leather with unbreathable plastic. Hyperfuse, I admit is pretty cool.

Thats quite a stellar observation!
Well, then, why didn't you make it??? "Nike spends a bunch on endorsements, but not that much on advertising. The name sells itself." You said it, I didn't. "The name sells itself"? Yeah, right. After Nike has spent zillions of dollars on endorsement deals, which have driven up the price of athletic gear for all of us, and after buying the rights to outfit numerous college teams and pro teams (the NFL is next), the name "sells itself." Uh huh. Like Adam Sandler films "sell themselves." Like McDonald's "sells itself." Yup. (Sorry, Fedzie, didn't catch that you weren't the poster who made all the insipid comments about Nike spending on endorsements but not advertising. I attributed quotes to you which, luckily for you, weren't yours.)

I always play on the court in full Adidas. But off the court wearing Nike shirts. Always wear full clothes from the same collection. I think Adidas Adizero collection of the most unusual and bright.
I think the switch to Nike, because I am a fan of Federer and Nadal. But, unfortunately, Nike shorts are very dull colors. Adidas shorts are very aggressive color. But Adidas, unfortunately, does not make colored bandanas. :(

I like my adidas clothes. I like how they fit and construction, but best of all, I can find their stuff really cheap at the adidas outlet near my house (tent sale is the best!)! There is also a Nike outlet, but there is almost no way their outlet pricing is better than adidas (e.g adidas t-shirt: $5.00; Nike t-shirt: $14.99) I am a chunky boy and the adidas stuff is cut larger. Nike shirts I have bought recently same size are so much tighter and restrictive.

I have found though, adidas shoes run smaller than Nike and I have to buy a 1/2 size larger. They feel a little snug but after break in, they are fine.

I recently effected a switch from adidas to nike. Wonder why I didn't go with nike to start with - think it is because the barricades are an amazing shoe - I have courtballistecs 4.3 now but still think the BVs (which I still have a couple of pairs of) are superior in terms of their performance/durability (so chunky and secure). But you can't beat nike for look/style!

I always bought only Adidas, but plan to go to Nike. I like all the things one brand.
I really like the Adidas Adizero apparel and shoes. It looks very bright.
Shorts Nike look dull. Why does the bright Nike shorts, for example, orange or green? Also, Nike crews are usually plain, in contrast to Adidas. Adidas more colorful.
But, I think, Nike is sitting more strictly.

I am kind of a Nike fan - im just building up a collection of clothes which allows me to wear full Nike on court.

Я говорю на русском, в том числе!

I like adidas shorts also because of the deep pockets and more vibrant colors. Nike needs short colors other than white, grey and black.

Obsidian blue in the Fall 2012 collection. ;)

But white grey and black match ANY top you can wear for years to come. Whereas orange and yellow shorts only match orange and yellow tops and shoes.

The best way to dress for color and class is a base short (black white grey) with a bold shirt (blue red any color) and shoes that match one of the two. You adidas kids in your neon orange shoes and turquoise shirts look like clowns lol.

tl;dr BLACK WHITE GRAY IS TIMELESS!
