Adrian Mannarino brings two racquets to court in his small Nike bag

Perhaps he thinks it affects performance or feel in some way. Remember Del Potro: he was provided with the exact same racquets he used to use but under a new paintjob; said racquets which weren't even K-Factors to begin with. He still refused to use them and didn't use anything else than his old sticks until he was driven in a corner by his lack of racquets. Benoît Paire also used the APD GT paintjob for as long as he could before switching to the Pure Aero one despite having the stencil. The switching was helped by his, ahem, high level of love and care for his equipment. FWIW, this was at Wimbledon 2013.

I have 2x new unstrung of those size 3 APD 2013 GT that I picked up cheap on old stock clearance at a sports store.. I emailed Mannarino but no response, he is probably trying to get a Babolat sponsorship. Maybe he'll need them if he gets far in Acapulco? If he doesn't want them I'll probably just string them up and try them out for fun.. not my stick, feels like a toy compared to my RF97A

If anybody runs into him, tell him I have two...

It is about time that the companies start giving hefty fines to those that abuse their reputation like this.

$5000 for an intentionally broken frame seems reasonable.

smashing racquets is a scummy thing to do given how many people can't affort one. but pls gtfo about this reputation bs. makes me sick when people victimize multi million dollar brands over such incidents.

The reputation is damaged, because the players themselves give the company bad name with their behaviour and because it costs them actual money to replace the broken frame.

It is not "victimization" in any shape or form.

IMO, the "many people can't afford one" is a lot more ridiculous.

brainwashed hogwash. how many people outside hardcore tennis fans even care about racquet brands? and how many of us who know and care about racquet brands are stupid enough to think smashing a racquet gives the company a bad name?

might be time to step out of your bubble and realize there's people with actual problems outside your vanilla world, being poor being one of these problems.

It is like sponsoring Tomic, only on a smaller scale, and Tomic has no sponsors for a reason.

It costs also money to replace the prematurely broken frames, so I would have guessed that would resonate with the practical side of your argument.

Also, we are on a tennis site, where the average user that is also a tennis player spents thousands of dollars/euros/pounds on tennis equipment, training, travel, access to viewership and membership fees, so it is a kind of difficult to relate to the people with less.

Certainly, disputing over a $250 frame is not the right framework for such discussion, no?

sponsoring Tomic? are you serious? Bernie needs to open his mouth just once and you're in deep trouble if you are affiliated with him.

and what has the average TT user to do with racquet smashing being idiotic for economical reasons? that's excactly the bubble you live in that I'm talking about. so many people wanna play this game but have a hard time coming up with the $$$ to do so. there's a world outside the wealthy; a world outside TT. you just further outlined my point with your post.

Can we summarize mannarinos racquet problems by stating that he is too superstitious to use his trusted aeropro plus in a new paintjob from Babolat? Even Nadal who is very picky uses his old aeropro with the most recent paint jobs.
What Mannarino is even more superstitious than Nadal? LOL

Nadal is paying huge money. Mannarino probably getting just free racquets.

It’s crazy to me that low ranked guys like Arthur de Greef or Jason kubler can get APDs with pure aero paint, but Adrian goes to twitter to find new sticks. He must actually hate the paint job that much.

Also fwiw I believe he uses the standard apd, not plus.

If pro players were allowed only to bring 2 racquets to court then they wouldnt smash racquets and string companies were selling us better -durable- strings.

I was just thinking after the Tomic vs Fognini final last week that Hydrogen might pickup Tomic. Mannarino though, close enough lol. They seem to market the drama-prone player types.

If someone wants to break their racquet, let them. What is anyone’s problem with that. Big fricken deal. As long as it’s not a dangerous way.
Baseball players break their bats over their knees often.
Showing some reasonable emotion like you care? I love it

Yonex is already doing this. I'm not sure how much their fines are, though.
Whats funny is Coco Vandeweghe (who is a notorious racquet destroyer) during a post match interview earlier this year denied that there was a new rule with Yonex that you weren't allowed to break their racquets unless you want to be fined for it.

Quick bump. Watching him play Anderson R1 at AO right now. Has he really switched to new Pure Aero? Or is that just the new PA PJ? Just haven't been able to get a closeup. Also Babolat stencil now

It looks shiny, where it shouldn’t look shiny. I suspect still Aero Pro Drive with 2019 PA paint, but it’s just a guess. Interesting that he’s officially w Babolat again, though.

From what I saw on his Instagram it looks to be a pj of the 2012 apd (same as tsonga, etc) with the cortex. Looks Standard length to me.

He may have new racquets and a Babolat stencil on the strings, but still only his black Nike bag and a plastic grocery bag with his drinks in it.

Wait, so it is an extended length? because i know Tsonga uses 27.5

When I say same frame, I mean its the same frame, the AeroPro Drive 2011, extended length is a possibility but I think it'll be around 27.25 if so. Also Tsonga uses a moulded Wilson Handle on his Babolat Frames, you can see it in some pictures that the buttcap is a Wilson Buttcap.

That shows you can play successfully on ATP circuit with only two racquets. Amazing!

When I play it's always the guy with 2 rackets and a jug of water that's going to be dishing out breadsticks.

The guy with the newest matching gear and 6 rackets is not someone you concern yourself with.

This also applies to golf if the guys in front of you have all matching gear from head to toe and they also match his bag/clubs you are going to be playing a 5 hour round.

Very true. Played a guy last night who was a top player in his country...had one racquet and a water jug. Dont think he had a bag with him. Dude was tough as nails.
