Advice for buying a new Stringer

Hi, I am a junior and about to buy my first stringer, and have about $600 to spend from my father. I break my strings about 12-14 times a year and will also be stringing for the rest of my family, who does not break them as much but collectively break them about 10-12 times a year. I am looking for a stringer that has preferrably a 6 point mounting system, and constant pull tension. I am looking at a couple of Gamma models and was wondering which one you would recommend or another one altogether. The Gamma Progression ST II, Gamma XS FC, Gamma X ST or another altogether that you personally think is better.

Thank You for reading and thank you very much if you reply

I would say go with the Gamma X-2 for around $160.00 and use the rest of your $600.00 to buy the strings you like in reels. Also get some accessories. like starting clamps, a good stringbed cutter, tubing, grips and so on.

I have had my X-2 for over a year and have strung lots of racquetball racquets (50+) and have had zero problems with it or with the floating clamps. Sounds like you will be doing around 24 racquets a year, which is like 2 per month and can easily be done on the X-2.

Not sure how much research you've done to date, but there's tons of information on this board, and as you've probably already figured out, a number of different ways you can go with respect to what machine to buy in your price range.

Alpha and Gamma are probably the two most recommended brands, but if you're looking to get the most machine for your money and can easily look past or tolerate the possibility of bolt holes that don't line up just so or a paint job that may not be as sharp as you would expect on a new machine, Eagnas may be worth a look. Some of their machines are pretty popular around here and have received good reviews.

Babotennis10 just bought a 910 and is extremely happy with his purchase. It's a lot of machine for $500, and it would pay for itself in well under a year I'm sure (especially if you have to travel a ways for restrings).

The X-2 is also a good buy, as is the Klippermate. It's a little more labor-intensive, but they're so inexpensive it's hard to pass up - especially when you consider how much string you can buy with the left over cash.

Anyway, do as much research as you can, ask a few more questions if you need further clarification, then take the plunge.

Good luck!

Only dropweights and electronic machines are constant pull. you can get the same results from a spring tension machine but increasing the tension 5-10%.
