Recently got back into tennis after a (very) long hiatus. My old tennis shoes (New Balance) have finally been worn through and it's time to upgrade. For my old shoes, I was looking for durability above all else, and the NB were durable but also very heavy and sweaty. Now, I am looking for breathability and light weight.
After reading too many shoe threads I've been able to narrow things down to only 30 contenders (jk... but still like 10 contenders). Do I really need to get all 10 to try to find the right shoe? I haven't bought any new shoes in a very long time having settled on running/walking and dress shoes that I've stocked up on, and with the new tennis shoe tech out now and what's good and bad constantly changing, a bit overwhelmed. (e.g. Asics Gel 7 was great! Gel 8 terrible. K-Swiss Big Shot 2 great! 3 and 4 terrible.)
I'm not starting from zero-- I ordered a pair of the K-Swiss Hypercourt Supreme in my usual size (8.5). These were supposed to be a "generous medium", but I'm finding them tight around the widest part by the ball of the foot and the toe box a bit as well. When I compared to my Nike Free Run 2 running shoes, which are the same size, the width is narrower by about 3mm, plus the Nike Frees have a very flexible cloth/mesh type upper with some stretch. The Hypercourt Supreme has a quite stiff upper.
My foot width appears to be smack in the "medium" range (95-96mm wide at the widest, 92mm for the toes, D width is 97mm).
Product page says it needs "slight" break-in. I think I like the Hypercourt Supreme otherwise so far.
Should I:
A) Wear around the house longer to see if it stretches a bit? (Or will I need to play in them to truly break them in, and if they don't, get stuck with a pair of too-tight shoes? )
B) Return and order a half size up? (Or will this be now too long and cause slipping)
C) Order a wide version of the Hypercourt Express 2?
D) Order the other 9 shoes and do a showdown?
Other shoes I'm considering:
ASICS Solution Speed FF
Diadora Blushield Torneo
Yonex Sonicage 2 (maybe need wide for this as reviewers say it runs narrow?)
Babolat SFX3
Mizuno Wave Exceed Light
Thanks for any advice!
