Advice on racket upgrade?

Well I'm beggining to outgrow my 10 ounce Wilson hyper hammer XP and need help picking out a new racket. I'm about a 3.5 - 4.0 player. I hit my strokes with topspin and hit my serve pretty flat right now. I'm looking for something a little bit heavier but still accomodates spin and control without breaking the bank. Thanks!

How about the M-fil 200? Haven't used it but fits your bill.

A bit lighter would be Kblade 98, I demoed it and it's a solid stick with a solid feel, and a VERY powerful serving stick. Groundstrokes can be controlled once you get used to it.

I've been using a pure storm team for a few years now, it's a good stick but I have arm problems and I want to eliminate the racquet variable completely. Looking at the numbers, the new pure storm looks like a nice upgrade from the team version. So I just ordered the Fischer M Pro #1 Light, without demoing. Hope this list helps.

well, unless you're looking to buy used or an outdated series, do expect to break the bank.

you're not giving too much info, but i'd say that from previous experience, maybe the speedport tour could be good for you.

spin second only to the APDC, but also good for flat serving, right below the kblade series.

you need to provide more insight on what you want, like feel for ex.
but best way to find out is DEMO!

good luck

The frames that come to mind for me are the M-Fil 200 (16x19), M-Fil 300, and LM Radical if you can find them in your grip size. Another frame that is going to be a significantly heftier bat is the Prince Hybrid Tour. I think it's a great frame at a really great price these days and as far as I know, all of these racquets are under $100 new. Demo as much as you can and take some time to be sure of a replacement - guessing wrong with a new frame can be a real setback.

Completely agree with Fuzz Nation there. I'd also suggest the TT Warrior, MP or OS. Isn't the HH XP an 110 OS?

Yes the Hyper Hammer XP is oversized but it is 115 sq. in. The feel I'm looking for is just a comfortable, stable racket that can really plow through the ball when needed. I have been asked to look at the Prince Hybrid Hornet and that seems like a good fit as well.

You'll probably want a 16x19 string pattern, something a little flexible, 98-107 sq. inch headsize, weighs 11 oz. or higher strung, and headlight balance.

The string pattern is more open than a 18x20 and will help with topspin and feel. Flexible racquets are more comfortable than stiffer ones. A 98-107 sq. inch headsize is a good transition from your hyper hammer if you want to improve your game. A lot of racquets in the 10 oz. range are really light, unstable and can hurt your arm... heavier is just better overall. And a headlight balance makes it more maneuverable for volleys, serves, groundstrokes... head heavy racquets give a lot of power and less control. I'd take a look at Prince Graphite Classic Oversize (POG), it's a classic player's racquet.

Hope this helps!

A POGOS? Probably not a good idea. It's too much of a change- 2 ounces generally don't rest well in one change. You MAY end up liking it, but it's not a stick I'd recommend immediately.

Try something a little lighter. You have a choice of either going with an OS (which are generally more powerful, more forgiving frames) or a MP (which are generally les powerful, less forgiving, but generally give more feel and control). I'd try a MP and an OS from the Radical line, the TT Warrior MP and OS, Prince O3 Shark MP or OS, as well as an ntour. You'll find that these sticks are great transition sticks and should be an easier transition than the POGOS mentioned above.

I've read a post in a different thread that a racket that is a bit more demanding will be better to improve your game than ine that is completely comfortable. Are there any rackets that are like this but not change too drastically? Thanks!
