When I get the chance I'll test the AG 4D 300 vs AG 300 vs Pure Storm (non-GT). I like the GT version of the Pure Storm, but I can't get a used one cheap.

I hit forehands better with the AG 300, but I hit backhands better with the m-Fil 400. I wonder if that holds true with the 4D 300 too.

HUGE power level difference between Pure Storm and Dunlop 300. Both sticks are awesome, but the Pure Storm Tour trumped it for me.

I wouldn't say HUGH difference, power player, but the power edge certainly goes to the Dunlop 300. The pure storm (old orange and black) did feel more dampened also. It's kind of a strange feel until you get used to it.

Noo..pure storm tour gt is far more powerful than the 300 is what I meant. I hit heavy shots, and the 300 took a lot of work for me. that is why I switched or I probably would have been good to go. I like the 300, but I prefer more controllable power.

The AG 4D 300 has more power than the AG 300. I strung them both @58 with Wilson Stamina 16. I had to adjust my swing a bit to take into account the power, but the AG 4D was able to put some sting on flatter shots. I think the 4D had a softer feel on contact than the AG. I'll have to play with the 4D more to see if I'd prefer it to the AG.

The Babolat Pure Storm is a bit more spinny than the 300's despite the 16x20 pattern. Even though it's not stiff, I did feel a bit of tennis elbow after playing doubles with it. That might have been a fluke as I practiced with all three racquets after work and didn't feel or notice anything. With a few adjustments, I got okay pace off the serve. You have to put a bit more force when hitting with the PS compared to the 300s. All these racquets have good control and allow you to dictate pace.

I should be clearer that I use the Tour version of the Pure Storm. Big difference in power there.

Good point, the tour has quite a bit more mass and has much more pop than the regular storm. I have a regular original Storm and the AG 300 both, specs are almost exact but they don't play much alike to me. I serve much better with the AG and the upper hoop is more responsive to me.

I agree gh. I also have both, and there is just something more solid about the AG300.

Just thought I'd chime in that I've been using the 16*18 AG300 for the best part of a year now! A whole year!!!! Not used a single frame for that long since..... erm.... well I can't remember!

Awesome frame. Love it.

Had a stringing mishap today and accidentally strung my 300 16x18 at 68lbs  with Technifibre NRG2 17g.

The hitting report is that it is a little boardy :)

Hey

I'm used to playing with Wilson Pro Staff racquets like the Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 and Pro Staff Classic 6.1 and prefer their weight balance/characteristics, however they just feel too heavy for me at 12 oz+.

I have a Dunlop AG 300 4D (not the tour version) that I plan on customizing to be like a lighter version of the wilsons.

Can anyone tell me where to add lead to make it feel like a hyper pro staff 6.1, but not quite as heavy? :) Anything from 11.1 to 11.6 oz is probably ok.

Thanks

Went 2 years at Stevens Point :). You have to play a lot indoor during long winter season.
Yep, get pretty good on slick wood. Sometimes a bit hard to judge the lines with all the different stripes on there.

Watching the snow melt today.

I currently hit the BB London and love it, but I hit the 300G for 4-5 years and the 300 Tour for several. I've heard that the new Bio 300 (non-Tour) is more out of the old 300G mold? Can anyone confirm this?

Also, does anyone have any experience with the Bio 300 and adding .5-1oz of lead? If so, what are your thoughts. The only reason I ask is that I had to lead up my old 300G's about an ounce, although I realize that modern frames generally don't require as much weight for equal impact.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Pneum,..You must have been pretty fond of the 4DTour huh?,...I'm just gettin ready to get mine on the outdoor courts,...Only played the 4D about 30mins so far but that felt great,...i also picked the Bio 300Tour,....they'll get side to side comparisons...:)

Honestly, I was much more fond of the 300G than the 300 Tour. I never hit the M-Fil, Aerogel, or 4D versions of the regular 300; rather, I just stocked up on the 300G for years. Now that comparisons between that frame and the Bio 300 are floating about, I'm a little too tempted to see how one plays with a leather grip and hoop mods. I think I'll be sticking with the London, but you know how it goes . . .

OBG, that's QUITE a signature:)

Yeah,...I cant put a single setup down 'cuz I jump from frame to frame so much,...really makes my game better (NOT),......I cant even fit my new YTk Rad & Redondo in that,...:(

Dunlop 300 16x19 series frame differences?

Hi everyone, I am curious as to whether Dunlop utilized different frames for the following: Hotmelt 300g, Mfil 300, Aerogel 300 and 4d 300?

I just received on trade 2 4D 300s but they have different frame shapes while retaining the 16x19 string pattern and identical cosmetics. One of the frames is the same as a Hotmelt 300g I used to own while the other is larger and rounder.
Strange....:?

Due to a recent injury I have not yet hit with both of them so I cannot tell you how they play but I thought it very strange. I asked the previous owner and all he said was that they played very similar to him.:???:

I would appreciate any comments or info on this. Thanks in advance!:)

Thanks Hoodjem, there is alot of info. in this thread, and we tried to post an index, but I know it is still hard to plow through. :)

I got my first AG4D300 this week, and hit with it for the first time yesterday.

Even with the Wilson Extreme synth gut 16g strings (free from TW), it hits great with plenty of spin, power, and touch--I'm in love.

And it's just as advertised: more control than an AG500 Tour, a little less power, but more forgiving than an AG100 and more margin for error.

I can hardly wait to add a little more lead at 12 o'clock, and put some nice 18g gauge poly/gut hybrid strings in.

Damn! What a sweet racquet!

I'm not looking at new racquets, but because my hitting partner is, yesterday I was able to compare my modded AG4D300 against four other TW demos:
Head Youtek Speed 16X19
Head Youtek Speed Lite
Yonex RDiS 100 MP
Yonex RDiS 300 MP

Some of these racquet did certain things well: the Speed Lite was easy to swing, the RDiS 100 was very solid, and the RDiS 300 MP had good power.

But overall, IMO none of these played as well as the AG4D300--it had better control, more power, and best of all, it had by far the best feel of any of these racquets. I love the feedback I get from these Dunlops.

I am a proud new member of the Aerogel 300 Appreciation Society!

Aerogel 4D 300 x 4 strung with polyester mains (currently playtesting 4 different ones) and synthetic crosses (currently looking at 3 different ones).

TripleB

Did you have any luck at the end with the AG 300 16x18?
I got two of these at a great price. They were in only okay (7.5) condition, but what the heck.

I re-gripped one and added a little lead tape (2 inches at 10 and 2). This is an awesome stick: very nice control, excellent feel (strung with NRG2), really stable, plenty of plow-through at 11.9 oz., but--best of all--really good power.

More than a few times I left my hitting partner flat-footed staring at the ball off a backhand thinking, "Holy cow! Where'd that come from?"

Oddly, that's what drove me into the arms of the 100. The two were similarly performing sticks, but the 100 seemed much more controllable to me

Man, that was some time ago!
I don't disagree. The 100 has more control (but for me not enough power).

For my game, the 300 has just the right balance of plenty of power and just enough control.

After 4 months of tweaking the lead-tape, I think I've got it just right. But it was a pain to get here.

I love the balance of control, power, feel, and spin on this puppy.

God, what I wouldn't give to have one of these that was exactly one ounce heavier stock.

I tried my AG 300 a few days ago. I don't know what happened but I didn't get much power from it. I had not used mine in some time, but it felt low powered compared to the 4D 300 and Biomimetic 300. I used Wilson Stamina 16 @ 58. I may have to lower the tension to 54 or so.

I've got an AG4D300 strung with Pac Poly 18g mains/Pacific Classic gut 17g crosses, and a AG 300 (16X18 ) strung with full NRG2 17g. They both play well (except for the weight differential) and feel great. IMO have similar power.

Anyone out there having success leading up their AG4D300?

I keep trying, but I seem to be getting it all wrong.

I want to take mine from 10.9 oz. stock up to the 11.9 oz of my AG300 16X18.

Any suggestions would be welcome?

Holly ,

Welcome to the club , this is for anyone/everyone who recognise the ag300 is among the best stick in the market today .

Looking at the spec they are not too disimilar ...although the maxply will be abit stiffer and less manuarvable ,(however after the 10g of lead on the throat of my ag300) I can see how my current stick would play similar to the maxply..(the weight and balance around the same)

I believe the Dunlop AG300 16x19 is still one of the best sticks out there for recreational players.

I'm a huge 300 series fan as well. I've been playing an Avery racquet as of late, and it's been good for me, but my favorite mid-weight frame of all time is the AG 4D 300 modified with a leather grip and lead at 3/9 (3 to 6 grams). They're too light for me in stock form, but with a little weight they're awesome. I hit with one of my trio the other day, and now I am considering ditching my m3 and going back to the 300s. I don't remember why I ever left them in the first place - racquet addiction, I guess. But I know why I never sold them.

I did the same thing with my 300's, leather grip, weight at 3 and 9. Final weight is close to 12oz and still fells light and easy to swing.

Hello. I finally gave up on my 2 year old Babolat Pure Drive Plus's. I tried every mod and string setup, but my arm couldn't take it anymore. So I sprung for the last pair of AG3004D's on closeout at the local Dunlop distributor. They were 4 1/4", and I use a 4 1/2". I placed two cardboard strips under the grip to the narrow sides of the handle, and an overgrip to bring the grip size up. I also added 9 grams of lead under the handle to make it more head light. I strung one with a basic synthetic gut 17, and the other with a full poly 17, so I can decide which would be better. I played three sets of doubles with the synthetic strung stick today. It feels nice and comfortable, and my arm didn't act up. As expected, you have to have nice smooth strokes, which means I had to stay very calm to produce a smooth swing. I don't yet know how to "pull the trigger" for big, forcing strokes. But I'll get around to that eventually as I get used to this racquet. For now, having a comfortable racquet and no arm pain is just what I needed.

has anyone played played with both the ag300 16x19 and the ag300 4d 16x19? I ask because they are both on sale at a club by me. the ag300 is only 74 bucks!! the 4d is 89$ if you buy 2 of them on TW

is the 4d worth the extra bucks or are they about the same? I tend to like a uniform flex on a racquet so I was thinking the AG300 might be better then the 4d but cn't demo of the AG300 anymore.

thanks

No Biomimetic 300 or Biomimetic 300 Tour reviews in this thread yet?
I used to owe 4D 300s and just bought Bio 300 last week. Bio 300 swing so fast, so easy. Even I added massive of lead (3&9 6 grams each) + leather grip, og, it still swing so easily. Bio 300 seems stiffer at impact, or maybe because I strung Tornado at 55lbs.
Bio PJ awesome !

I had and played with both, its been awhile. I was using the AG300 and purchased one 4D300. I had it for about 6 months before I sold it. I didn't use it much because I didn't like it as much as the AG300. I thought the 4D was a little stiffer then the AG and I like the flexy feel of the AG. I probably could have gotten used to the 4D300 but didn't like it as much as the AG so didn't spend any more time playing with the racquet. I still really love the AG300 but I don't care for the racquets instability at times, especially on off-center hits. However, it has not been big enough reason to switch. I've demoed practically everything over the past 4 years, for a short time switched to the Prince Ozone Tour and am back playing my AG300 full time and its never felt better. I do tinker with strings and lead tape, but its just a great overall stick, IMO.

thanks for the feedback, finally getting demos today, a blx pro open , 4d 300 , babolat pure storm ( which I demoed before and liked alot) and organix 6. (organix6 cut my shipping bill in half so why not)

the pure storm gt has a nice feel, and good power on serves with lots of control , but is a little pricey for me. hoping the cheaper dunlop plays as well.

count me in the club!!

I just demoed the 300-4d against the pure storm gt. no contest, 300-4d had more feel, control and flex that is very unique. its more of a firm flex that feels soft but doesn't drain any power. I did add lead to the the grip cause I like a head light feel. great stick!

pure storm gt had a bit more power but it was a trampoline like power. I didn't feel very connected to the shots like I did with the 4d. I'm blaming the woofer grommets. I know a lot of folks like the extra spin and pop you get with the woofer grommets but its not for me. I just don't like the feel (or lack there of) .

m-fil 300

I've been going back and forth between my m-fil 300s and the 300 4d (nontour), and I find that the m-fil's flexier feeling is just better for my game. I like the 4d, but I don't play frequently enough to handle its small sweetspot and stiffness, especially at net in doubles. I enjoy having lots of racquets to experiment with (strings, tension), but I can't find M-fil 300s in very good condition. The AG300 sounds too stiff also. Any suggestions? Other Dunlops? Other brands?

Hey sciwriter, shoot me an email, tdwtennis@yahoo.com, i saw some 300's that might look ok.

Can anyone give a comparison between a leaded Aerogel 300, 4D 300, and Bio. 300? A stock comparison would work as well, but a modified comparison would be especially helpful. I briefly demoed the Aerogel several years ago but never put any lead on it. I liked it a lot but never weighted it up to my 11.8-12oz. specs. I never hit the 4D version but did hit the Bio. version this past Summer with 4 grams at 3/9. The Bio. reminded me more of my old 300G's. Which one of these plays the most flexible and most stable in your opinion?

Considering the current prices of these frames, especially the Aerogel and 4D versions, I'm tempted to pick up a few, although I'm perfectly happy with my current frame. I hit the 300's for years and miss playing with this series.

I hit with the 4d and liked it, compared to the aerogel 300 the head of the 4d is a little stiffer so the flex is not as uniform feeling. its hits more stable though. guess I just thought the aerogel felt better and had a more uniform, predictable flex to it.

Stability is not really a big concern because when I hit the 300Gs and 300 Tours I always leaded the sticks up with 8-10 grams in the hoop and countered on the grip. I sense that I lean more towards the older AG 300 or the new Bio. 300, but I might arrange to pick up an AG 300, 4D 300, and a Bio 300, lead the hoop and put a leather grip on each and see how it turns out.

Of interest to me, however, is what I read in another thread that Dunlop is planning to release the new McEnroe stick, which I understand to be a Bio. 300 mold but heavier. If they will make it less stiff than the Maxply, this one will be worth waiting for. It might just be the heavier 300 that many of us have long awaited, as long as they make it reasonably flexible.
